Chapter 288. Lord Phelan Arrives

Chapter 288: 288. Lord Phelan Arrives

Jael grunted as he climbed up the stairs. His footwear was dirty from walking around in the grass. After checking the foundation, he ended up having to speak to Danag for hours.

He didn’t like how he was being dragged into the slightest thing. They didn’t need his opinion on everything. However, there was no way he could avoid this.

He has still not tested out the drug himself. He had wanted to test it out the night after they arrived, however, Danag had fought about being hasty. As there was no longer any need for it as the purpose was to convince the Lords.

Jael would have argued this but he has not gotten a break since he got back from Lord Garth’s residence and there was barely any time to go Paler hunting.

As much as he didn’t like entertaining guests, he couldn’t exactly run off when this was his idea. "Ugh," he ran his hand through his hair.

He got to the top of the stairs and quickly made his way to Mauve’s room. He didn’t slow down when he got to the door, he just barged in like he owned the place.

Mauve didn’t even flinch, which was unusual, the maid on the other hand looked frightened, and Jael couldn’t remember her name.

"You finished on time," Mauve and stood to feet. He noticed she hid something behind her back but he paid no mind to this.

The maid mirrored Mauve’s movement, "Sire," she said, bowing her head.

"Yeah," he said and watched as she rushed to him.

"We just finished here too," she said as she stopped in front of him.

Jael squinted his eyes at her, he could tell something good happened. "Did you make any progress?" He asked.

"Uh-hmm," she smiled brightly. Her pink cheeks gleamed at him.

Without thinking Jael stretched his hand and grabbed a huge chunk of her right cheek, "That’s good."

"Jael," she cried and grabbed her face.

"Are you ready?" He asked, smirking down at her.

She nodded, "I just have to clean up a little..."

"No, don’t worry, I will take care of that." She said.

"Thank you," Mauve said happily.

"You’re in a swell mood," Jael commented.

Mauve shrugged, "Yasmin really helped me out."

"I see, I guess we should give Yasmin our thanks."

Yasmin immediately looked panicky, "No, Sire. I was more than happy to help her. You shouldn’t thank me." She looked horrified as she spoke.

"We should go," Mauve said and pulled on his arm. "She is helping clean up."

He didn’t fight it and he let her pull him all the way to the door. The door closed with a soft thud and Mauve let go of his hand but he grabbed hers.

"We don’t want you tripping down the stairs, now do we?"

"I won’t trip," she said but didn’t pull away from him, instead, she pressed her body against him as they climbed down the stairs together.

Jael got to the end of the stairs and a cold feeling washed over him. Someone was here unexpectedly too early.

The huge entrance doors were immediately thrown open and Lord Phelan, his son, and two guards walked in, behind them were Danag and Danag.

"Sire," Lord Phelan said with a loud shrill voice. His eyes darted towards Mauve and his eyes squinted before returning his gaze to Jael.

Mauve immediately hid her frame behind Jael, hiding herself from view as much as she could.

Jael’s gaze darkened, "Lord Phelan. May I ask what you are doing here?" Jael said flatly, his voice devoid of any emotion.

Jael visibly saw the Lord swell but the Lord quickly composed himself. "I brought my son, Corbin, and two extra guards. As you can see I am a man of my word."

Jael squinted his eyes, the son wasn’t impressive, he remembered the lad saying a word or two during the party, that ugly bow cut was hard to forget.

Jael could tell he had not had much combat, Corbin would most likely be a nuisance than much help. At this point, he was regretting poking at Phelan, if it meant he wouldn’t have to deal with this.

"Isn’t this too early, the training doesn’t start until three days from now. What did you think you’d achieve by showing up now?" Jael asked, his tone was dark.

The old vampire swelled some more and Jael could visibly see him fight the urge to snap, "Are you turning us away?" He croaked, the whites of his eyes were completely red at this point.

"Of course not. You’re already here, there is no need to turn you away. Danag, assign them to their rooms and set out a handful of guards to accompany Lord Phelan home, we want him to get back safely."

"I won’t be living tonight," Lord Phelan said stubbornly. "You can’t just turn me away when I just arrived."

"My bad, I am sure the journey had taken some toil on you, The guards would give you a room for the night, let them know if you need anything. Now, if you’ll excuse me, my lunch is getting cold."

The words were barely out of his mouth when he started moving away, he grabbed Mauve’s hand tighter, her palms felt usually cold in his hands.

There was no reason for the Lord to come all the way here by himself, the Phelan estate wasn’t exactly nearby. He could have sent his son and a couple of guards.

There was also the fact that he was here three days earlier, Jael cussed, there was no way this was just to drop off his son. What did the Lords gain by trying to piss him off?

"Jael," Mauve called.

He turned to look at her, "What?"

"You’re squeezing my arm," she whimpered.

He released his hold immediately, "Oh."

She pulled her hand from his grasp and rubbed on the spot.

"Does it hurt?"

She shook her head, "Not really but it felt like if I didn’t raise an alarm it would start to hurt.

"I was lost in my thoughts," he replied.

"I know," she said. "Is this a problem?"

"No, it’s just annoying. Don’t concern yourself with it."

She looked like she wanted to say something but instead, she nodded to his words.
