The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 285. Haney’s Prediction

Chapter 285: 285. Haney’s Prediction

Mauve stared at Mill through the mirror as the vampire brushed her hair. Mill’s brows furrowed as she concentrated, pulling at the front of her hair which was neatly tied up in a ponytail, not even a strand of hair escaped from the clutches of the band. Mauve couldn’t help but think that it must be painful.

"Mauve," she suddenly called.

"Yes," Mauve responded, her eyes adjusting so they could meet with Mill’s eyes in the mirror

"What do you think? Is it too tight or is it tight enough?"

"It is alright," she replied.

"I can make it looser if that’s preferable.’

"No, this is fine."

"Mauve," Mill called again.

"Okay, maybe a little looser," Mauve said, giving in to the slight twinge of pain she could feel in her scalp.

"I saw the way you winced," she replied.

"Then why did you have to ask me because you never really say anything about the hairstyles I make for you, you always say you’re fine with it."

"Well, that’s because I am."

Mill squinted her eyes, "I am not really good at handling hair other than mine so it would be good to get criticism once in a while."

"You don’t need criticism, you’ve been handling my hair just right," Mauve beamed.

Mill chuckled, "If you say so, all done."

Mauve arched her head to the left and right side, staring at her reflection. "Thank you," she said with a smile, turning her head so she could look Mill directly in the face.

"You’re very welcome. Are you sure you’re fine with such a typical hairstyle?"

"Uhm hmm. Thank you," she said again and turned to the mirror to look at her reflection again.

"That reminds me," Mill suddenly said, drawing Mauve’s attention.

"Yes," Mauve replied, turning most of her frame to Mill’s direction. "Did something happen?"

"Have you gotten any more lessons from Yasmin?" Mill asked with an odd look on her face.

"Not really," Mauve said, glancing to her feet before looking back at Mill. "It has been a busy period and I don’t want to interrupt her chores."

Mill squinted her eyes, "I am sure they can manage with one less servant. I will send her to you after the first meal is over."

"You really don’t have to do that, I don’t mind waiting. Besides, she has taught me enough, I just have to keep practicing on my own to get it right," Mauve said, she sounded a little panicky.

Yasmin didn’t show whether she liked her or not and Mauve wasn’t about to give her a reason to hate her if that wasn’t the case already.

She didn’t need anyone to tell her that pulling Yasmin out of her duties to give her knitting lesson was definitely one way to make sure of that considering how terrible of a student she was.

"I checked the drawers," Mill announced and Muave blushed. "You need more than practice. You definitely need more lessons."

"That’s mean," Mauve said and looked away, raising her chin slightly.

"No, it’s not. I know you’re trying to be considerate but there is really no need." She replied. "Besides, you do want to learn how to knit so there is no reason to hold back, and don’t wait for me to call Yasmin for you, if you want her to help you, call for her."

Mauve kept her gaze from Mill as the vampire spoke. She understood what Mill was trying to tell her but there was no way she could do that. It was bad enough that they have to serve her, she doubted they would be pleased if she went out of her way to order them around.

"Don’t make it sound so easy, most of the servants avoid me. Make that all of them," she blurted out.

"Fine, you don’t have to call for her yourself, just let me know and I’ll get her for you, okay," Mill said, her voice, softening.

Mauve nodded, placing her chin on the arms which lay on the dresser table. It was almost time for breakfast which meant, Jael would most likely come through the connecting door any moment now but considering she didn’t see him when she woke up, she might have to go for the first meal by herself.

"Did you know where Jael went?" She asked.

"No, I think he had something to discuss with Danag and Haney, I am not sure."

"Alright, thank you. I should go for the first meal." As the words left her lips, she slowly stood up from the side of the dresser.

The dress fell to her feet and she didn’t bother gathering it with her hands as she carefully made her way to the direction of the door.

"I could accompany you if you like," Mill offered.

"No, I am fine, thank you." Besides, it wasn’t that she couldn’t go alone, it was that she wasn’t sure she was supposed to, since Jael made sure to accompany her.

"I can tell you don’t want to go alone, I am completely fine with going along with you."

"I insist, I am fine, Mill." She replied, her voice slightly raised.

"If you insist," Mill responded.

"I do insist," she pouted, slightly annoyed. All of them were treating her like some child. She wasn’t that incapable.

With her mouth still pouted, she marched to the door, pulled it open, tripped on her dress, and fell right into Jael’s hand.

"What have we here?" Jael asked as he easily carried her.

Mauve slowly raised her head to look at his face. Her face was a right red color. Why does this always happen to her?

"Sire," Mill called out. Mauve did not have to look back to know the vampire was bowing her head.

"What are you doing here?" She asked while pulling away from his grasp in a bind to cover up her embarrassment.

He frowned, "Isn’t it a good thing I am here?"

"I thought you were busy," she mumbled. "You were gone before I woke up."

"I was but I am pretty sure we would both agree my presence was quite needed," he smirked refusing to let go of her.

She glared at him, "I can’t walk if you keep holding me like that."

"I have no problems with carrying you," he replied.

"Jael," she cried.

"Fine," grumbled out, letting go of her shoulders but he immediately took her hand. "Shall we?" He asked.

She nodded and gathered the dress as best as she could with one hand. Lord knows she had learned her lesson and she wasn’t in any mood to give Jael another reason to mock her.

"You know you can’t fall with me by your side right? So, you can trip all you want."

"I am not going to trip," she muttered.

However, he didn’t say anything snarky in response just led her down the stairs.

They got to the dining hall and the vampires at the table immediately rose to their feet and bowed. Haney, Damon, Danag, and Erick.

Danag looked like he had not gotten much sleep, his usual pristine form looked a bit sunken. She did want to ask about it but she wasn’t sure she would be able to comfortably speak around Haney.

He didn’t speak to her directly and mostly ignored her except when Jael either spoke to her or held her, then he would glare at her. It wasn’t completely uncomfortable but it didn’t help because she already thought he was scary.

She took the seat next to Jael and he reluctantly let go of her hand, he slid into his seat and they all say down.

"I did say you don’t have to join us for the first meal, Danag," Jael said as soon as they say down. "You shouldn’t get some rest."

"I am fine, I am most likely low on blood. I will feed as soon as the meal is over, I see."

"The next batch should arrive soon?" Jael asked but it sounded more like a statement.

"Yes, the guards assigned some return before midnight tomorrow if they don’t encounter any difficulties."

Jael nodded, the conversation pausing as the servants began to dish out the food.

"Because of you Sire, we no longer have to worry about feeding," Haney said.

Jael frowned and stared at him, "I guess." He replied and picked up his cutlery.

Haney slowly turned and looked at Mauve, "However, do you think this relationship would last very long? I hear humans tend to overreach whenever they are given the chance."

Mauve felt cold hands grab her back. It didn’t help that Haney partially kept his gaze on her the whole time he spoke.

Jael frowned, "Just what are you saying?"

"I am saying if you give them such freedom, they tend to overextend and next you know, we have a problem on our hands. A problem that would be very difficult to solve and would end up requiring extreme measures on our end. We can’t afford that, we already have bigger problems."
