Chapter 276. Run His Mouth

Chapter 276: 276. Run His Mouth

You’re only saying this because you were aware of the situation and could have protected your own." Seraphino shot back at Lord Garth.

A/N: Realized I didn’t write who was speaking before Seraphino replied.

"Respect yourself, Seraphino. You’re in the Primus’ presence you should know better than to speak in such a manner." Lord Levaton scolded.

"Should we now be wary of voicing out our opinions simply because it might not appeal to the Primus?" Seraphino returned.

Jael swore this was turning out to be a mess and the more he tried to salvage the situation, the more it worsened. If he let this drag on, he might end up not dealing with all the issues tonight.

"I have heard your complaints and while I see why withholding the information was important, I understand that some of you don’t see it that way. However, I can’t change the past and you’ll all have to move on from it." Jael said without one hint of remorse.

Lord Phelan looked like he wanted to say something in response but Jael didn’t let him and continued to speak. The Lord looked slight

"As I have said, there is no conclusive evidence that it was a planned attack and it was simply a case of wrong place, wrong time. Back to the matter at hand, I expect the special unit to begin their training immediately and you all are expected to provide good enough guards. The battle against the Palers isn’t an easy one, it is something that has been going on for centuries. However, before I lay down your role, Lord Kieran would give you full details on all he has found out about the Palers and how we intend to go against them."

Jael leaned back against his seat and watched Kieran stand to his feet. He wondered what their reaction would be to the drug. There was a very high chance they would whine about it. He winced, he wished he had been able to test out the drug himself. At least that would shut down whatever complaints they might have.

"Thank you, Sire, for giving me the opportunity," Kieran said with a low bow. Jael waved his hand and Kieran turned away from him to face the Lords.

"A couple of months ago, the sire requested that I experiment on Palers and find if there was some way to kill them other than the sunlight. Unfortunately, all efforts proved futile. Their limbs were easy to cut off but one grew back in its place. Their rib however was untouchable and no matter how hard it tried I couldn’t cut through the bones or break it." Kieran paused slightly and turned his head around.

"I quickly gave up on this as it wasn’t ideal in battle. Starving didn’t work, as though they became weaker it didn’t ultimately lead to their deaths. Eventually, a came up with a solution that isn’t perfect but works well enough."

The hall was silent as Kieran went on about the drug and proficient it was. Jael frowned as he watched the Lords’ faces. He could tell this was bound to take a while.

The only good news was that none of them interrupted and they actually all kept quiet until he was done speaking.

"That’s the end of the test run and the results. If there are any questions, I will be willing to answer them as best as I can...." The words had barely left Kieran’s lips when Lord Seraphino jumped to his feet.

"Put them to sleep? Surely, this is a joke. After taking so long to experiment on them. All you can offer us is to put them to sleep."

"This is a faster way than trying to kill them and that is taking longer than expected. I haven’t completed the experiment and I will keep on carrying them out, however, I don’t see me coming up with a surefire method soon enough."

"Why is he the only one in charge of this? I am sure there are more capable Vampires who can come up with a better solution than this. Sire, do you truly believe this would work?" Lord Phelan added.

Even though Jael saw this coming, it still didn’t make it less annoying. If it was so easy why were they relying on him to get the answers?

"What are the odds that this would enough work?" Another Lord said, Jael could remember his name but there was no way to miss the uncanny resemblance to the twins.

"This doesn’t sound very reliable. Having to trust such a terrible method. Is that what this has come to?" Lady Francine chirped in.

"We want to get rid of them not make beds for them. Finally, calling out this meeting for so long and I thought we will finally have a good reason why we supported you in your alliance discourse but right now, the humans seem to have it better than we do." Lord Phelan blurted out.

Jael bit his tongue, he didn’t need anyone to tell him that was a direct jab and Mauve. He knew she would come up at some point but he didn’t think it would be in this manner.

He wanted to be on his best behavior but they were testing the hell out of him. A bunch of old vampires, trying to tell him what to do when all they have done was sit on their asses and watch.

The noise slowly increased as the Lords spoke amongst themselves it wasn’t even just them stating their point but a lot of people were agreeing with what Lord Phelan said.

This wasn’t surprising, only about one-third of them had agreed to the peace treaty and it was the influence of Lord Garth and Lord Levaton that turned them around. Still, he wasn’t here to appease anyone, he was here to get a job done. If they didn’t like his methods, they could come up with their solutions themselves.

"It’s not my job to butter you old vampires." Jael spat out. He straightened his back and glared at his opposition.s. "If you hate the way I run things, you are more than welcome to do it your way. However, I can’t promise that I won’t shove my feet on your face."

Jael heard Lord Levaton take a deep breath at his words and some of the Lord gasped. However, the hall fell silent and he could tell he had their attention.

He rested his elbows on the table. "I am a new Primus, not a stupid Primus. I pretty much know how this works and who is in charge around here, so don’t you patronize me."

"My first priority will always be my species and our survival. Something you lot don’t give a rat ass about. I’m sure everyone here has lost at least a family member to the palers, I lost my parents, the former Primus, and his mate. To say I am half-assing this is an insult to the effort I have put in this and Lord Kieran’s."

"Capable vampires? Don’t make me laugh. If we had such, why aren’t they already working to come up with a solution? The Palers have been around longer than I have been. Only a few Lords are in the same age group as I am. What have the rest of you been doing? You’re all quick to pull down my ideas when you never had any in the first place."

He paused slightly and glared at them. "Now if you have proper objections to the idea, give eloquent reasons and I just might listen. At the end of the day, this is going to go how I want because that is exactly how this works."

Jael leaned back on his chair, "Lord Kieran, you may continue."

"Ah yes, Sire," said a jittered Kieran.

Jael knew this was a terrible way to handle the situation and with the looks Lord Garth and Lord Levaton gave him, they weren’t very pleased.

However, he didn’t care. If they didn’t want him to be the Primus they should have found a suitable person while he was running away from his duties. Unfortunately for them, they all signed up for this, they might as well enjoy the ride.

A few Lords asked a few questions but none were as condescending as earlier and no one doubted Kieran’s skills. He should have exerted his authority earlier.

Apparently, trying to appease them wasn’t going to get him anywhere. This was a faster method. He smirked to himself. Besides, this was a way to smoke out who was not on his side.

If there were vampires plotting against him, he wanted to give them a good enough reason to come at him. He would like to see if he was truly supposed to be the Primus by rising on top of whatever they might throw at him.

However, he doubted he would see anything soon. Irrespective of how they hated, there was no denying he has put in some work. Having solved the lack of blood problem and now palers, he had a good enough reason to run his mouth.
