The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 275. Seraphino’s Sabotage
Chapter 275: 275. Seraphino’s Sabotage
I am sure it has been on everyone’s mind for quite some time now, especially since you became the Primus. When are you going to pick a mate? Your father picked one pretty early and had you, not too many decades after. You are taking too long to decide, your grace."
Jael squinted his eyes at her words. He recalled Lady Francine, she was close to Lady Marceline, his mother’s cousin. She wasn’t here as she didn’t fall under the category of Lord in attendance and he was pretty glad about that. He wasn’t ready to see her, not any time soon.
"I understand your impatience, Lady Francine but I am sure dealing with the palers is much more important, wouldn’t you agree?"
"Yes," she replied, looking more determined. "However, it doesn’t make it less of a priority and at this point, it is dragging on unnecessarily. There are a lot of capable ladies, I am sure your indecisiveness isn’t as a result of not finding the right mate."
"You’re absolutely right, Lady Francine. However, I didn’t call this meeting to discuss how difficult it has been for me to choose a bride as I have said before now. I’d rather not pick a mate in these circumstances. As soon as we no longer have to worry about Palers as we do now, I shall consider it."
"Consider?" She asked, Jael could tell by the look on her face that she was getting pissed.
"Yes, Lady Francine," he said with a low tone, hoping she would get the hint and get off his back.
It was annoying that some of the older vampires spoke to him in such a manner. Regardless of how he might seem to them, he was still the Primus. A young Primus but Primus regardless and whatever he decided on, was how things went. If they wanted otherwise, they would have picked someone to replace him while he was away.
"As you wish, Sire." She said and bowed her head slightly before leaning back on her seat. Her mate sat next to him, Jael didn’t think he was impressionable.
"Now that that’s over, I’ll immediately dive into why I have called you all here. This meeting has been long coming and it is officially the first meeting since I accepted my duties as the new Primus."
"Took you long enough," Seraphino muttered under his breath but it was loud enough for all to hear.
Jael darted his eyes in his direction but he quickly turned away instead of replying. "As much as I would have liked all the Lord to be in attendance I thought it better to only invite the Lords with estates. If you have any disagreement with this, please indicate and give your reasons."
The Lord looked at each other quizzingly as Jael fell silent. A couple conversed between themselves but none of them seemed like they were going to speak out.
"I take it that no one has any problems with this." Jael paused again but only for a few seconds before he began to speak.
"Most of you were in attendance at the last party held in the castle and are aware that I intend to set up a special unit that would combat the rise of palers. They would be specially trained by the former Head Guard, Danag."
"Former?" The whispers rang out.
Jael paid no attention to this as he continued with his speech, ignoring the fact that they had just asked him a question.
He was discussing setting up the special unit. If he should answer their questions, it would lead to a series of other questions that would stray from the matter at hand.
He didn’t want to stay here longer than he needed to stay and he would make sure that didn’t happen. If there was still time, he would listen to whatever questions they may have after he was done with what he needed to do.
"This should have been done before now but I didn’t want us waging a war against them without having any sort of leverage. Anyone who has gone against a Paler is more than aware of how dangerous they can be..."
He paused dramatically as he waited for his words to seek in. He could see the look on the Lords’ faces. He could tell they were listening intently.
However, just because they seemed interested didn’t mean he isn’t bound to face some time of opposition. Not that it matters at the end of the day, he was likely to rise on top, however, it would just be dragged out more than it needed to be and that was the part he hated the most.
"Especially the part where they are so hard to kill without sunlight which is practically impossible as we cannot go underneath the sun ourselves." Jael paused again.
"Not to mention their regenerative abilities. It surpasses ours by several levels. Even if you leave them after delivering significant damage to them in hopes that the sun would do justice to the weakened Paler, there is still a very high chance that they might heal enough to crawl out of the sun’s range."
Jael cleared his throat, speaking loudly for so long was annoying. Unfortunately, it was something he had to do.
"I’m sure you have heard," he slowly looked around, trying to build up suspense. "About the fact that I was attacked over two months ago and sustained significant damage."
The Lords gasped and Jael was about to continue when he was interrupted.
"According to what we heard you were attacked by two palers. This is unheard of." Seraphino suddenly announced.
"Two palers? What do you mean by two? Why was this kept from us for this long?" Whispers suddenly rose from the Lords.
Jael swore under his breath as he glared at Seraphino. Of course, he had expected some sabotage from the Lord.
Jael straightened his back as he attempted to clear the mess. This was chaotic, he had wanted to ease them into the fact that they had been attacked simultaneously by two Paler. It was probably a coincidence but the right measures were being taken.
Lord Phelan immediately stood to his feet, Jael brace himself, he was certain he would not like what he was about to hear.
"Over two months, Sire. That is a long time to keep such information away from us. How can we be certain of what you might suggest when you’ve kept such an important detail from us."
Jael kept his face straight, of course, no one was concerned about the implication of what it means if Palers were to attack simultaneously but rather they were concentrating on the fact that he didn’t share such information.
"Lords!" Levaton’s voice suddenly rang out. "Please settle down and consider this properly. It is for this same reason that such news wasn’t shared with all of us."
"Are you saying you’re aware?" Seraphino attacked. "Did the Primus tell you about it and left the rest of us without such important information? How are we supposed to protect ourselves if we don’t even know what we are fighting against or if he is on our side?"
"It is insolent to make such a statement, Lord Seraphino." Lord Levaton replied.
"Is it? I have merely stated what had been on at least half the Lords’ minds, only that I am the only one willing to say it out loud."
"Enough!" Jael’s voice echoed in the hall.
The sound of his voice, all other sound ceased and the hall was quiet enough to hear a pin fall.
"It is for the same reason, I kept the information to myself before a solution would be provided. As I suspect it had caused nothing but raise chaos which we do not need. There is also the fact that we don’t have enough information about the attack. Who is to say it wasn’t a mere coincidence? Why would I raise unnecessary fear on that account?"
"Still doesn’t justify why would keep this away from the Lords. We have other vampires that rely on us for their safety and at this point, we can’t guarantee that if the Primus would leave out something as important as getting attacked by a group of palers."
Jael felt the vein in his head burst, he was about to lose it. He didn’t think it would happen this early but of course, Seraphino would do something like this.
Seraphino didn’t care about the safety neither was he that annoyed that he kept the information for this long. All the vampire cared about was sabotaging him and the fact that the other vampires were going along with it was irritating.
"The reason for this meeting is to sort out this issue. It wouldn’t change the fact that the information has been held from you all as the Primus had said it is only proper to withhold information rather than sharing, knowing it would cause nothing more than chaos."
"You’re only saying this because you were aware of the situation and could have protected your own." Seraphino shot back.
