The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 270. A Graze

Chapter 270: 270. A Graze

Mauve stood on the gravel as she watched the sky slowly go dark. It was a bit chilly but not enough for her to get a jacket. Besides, her arms were already covered and her dress was long enough to protect her legs.

She turned her head to the left and right as she got a view of the plain. Overgrown bushes were everywhere, only the front of the castle and the path leading out of it looked kept.

There were broken branches everywhere and Mauve wondered why no one picked up after them but Mauve could certainly see why. With the fence in such a terrible state, any wild could have a field day during the day and turn the surroundings into a wreck.

Mauve was curious to see how far the grassland stretched out. She could only see the field in front of the castle. What about behind the castle? Was it also in this state?

"It will only be for a few minutes, please Mill." She pouted her lips and looked up at Mill.

She didn’t think she could check it out but she wanted to remain outside for as long as she could. This was probably the only time she would be able to get away with this.

"No," Mill replied, closing the gap between them. "We should go inside, now."

"Just five minutes, Mill. Pretty please."

"You can go to the rooftop, you should be able to see as much as you want from there."

"I am too scared to look down," she replied and looked away. This wasn’t a complete lie as she was usually looking up to the sky and avoided the edges of the rooftop.

"Well, you will have to make do with that for now. When the Primus returns, you can ask him."

"Mill," Mauve cried out.

Mill squinted her eyes to show displeasure and stressed out her hand to grab Mauve who hurriedly moved out of the way and tripped.

"Mauve," Mill yelled and tried to catch but she could.

Mauve landed on the ground with her front. She yelled out in pain and tried to stand on her feet but failed and Mill had to help her up.

"Are you okay?" Mill said a who helped her to a standing position.

Mauve nodded, there was a slight pain in her forehead but other than a little dirt on her dress, she was fine. Well, that’s what she thought until she caught the look on Mill’s face.

The Vampire was looking at her with horror. Her pale face was a white sheet, Mauve could swear she could see her veins.

"You’re bleeding," she whispered, her eyes glued to Mauve’s forehead.

Mauve instinctively stretched out her hand to touch her forehead. She moved her hand around and quickly found the spot as it stung when she touched it.

"Ouch," Mauve muttered and brought her hand down and sure enough there was blood but it wasn’t enough to cause a panic.

Mill grabbed her hand immediately and pulled. "This is why I said you should go inside, Mauve. Oh, the Primus is going to scold me." She muttered, looking visibly shaken.

"It’s just a graze, Mill and it is completely my fault." She looked down as she spoke. There was no reason for Mill to look this agitated.

Mill turned to look at her but she didn’t say anything, she returned her attention to the road. She held onto Mauve’s hand, pulling her into the castle.

The guards closed the door as soon as they were inside. Instead of leading her up the stairs, Mill immediately set off in the direction of the kitchen.

"Mill, I am sorry," Mauve tried to apologize but she didn’t reply.

Mauve kept her lips sealed, she had pissed Mill off. If she had just done as Mill had asked this wouldn’t have happened.

"Why are we going to the kitchen?" She asked as they stopped in front of the door.

"I have to wipe the blood off you," she muttered and pushed open the door.

Mauve winced as a wave of heat hit her and the strong smell of smoke. She coughed slightly at this.

Without giving Mauve a chance to recover she pulled Mauve into the space and made her sit on a bench. The bench was joined to a table. She sat the wrong way, with her back to the table.

There were servants seated around the table and they were slicing and dicing several vegetables.

They all stopped what they were doing and stared up at Mill.

"Mill," a familiar voice said. "What is this?"

Mauve raised her head to see Mister Herbert standing beside her. He had a gruff expression on and did not seem very pleased with the interruption.

"She fell," Mill explained. "I would like some warm water and a clean rag, please."

"You could have asked a servant to bring it for you, there is barely enough time left before it’s time for the first meal and I have even started on it." Herbert glanced down at Mauve and she immediately looked away.

"I apologize for the intrusion but I figured it was faster for us to make our way here."

"Yasmin, get a bowl of warm water and a clean rag."

"Yes sir," she replied and stood up from the table. "Here," Yasmin said, handing it to Mill.

"Thank you," Mill replied, accepting it graciously. She dabbed the rag into the water and pressed it to Mauve’s head.

"Oww," Mauve screamed as the water touched the side of her head.

"Sorry," Mill said, her gaze softening.

Mauve nodded as she took the rag away. She didn’t have to feel sorry for her, this was technically her fault.

"So," Herbert said, still standing next to them. "How did you fall? That looks like a nasty graze."

"She tripped while running away from me," Mill replied and returned the rag to Mauve’s forehead, wiping the blood as much as she could.

"Ah, so this is your fault, I wondered why you looked so agitated," Herbert said, looking at her. "Why were you chasing her in the first place?"

"She wasn’t," Mauve cried out. "I should have listened," Mauve said and bent her head.

"Well, this should heal quickly even if you’re human," Herbert said with a small smile.

Mauve blinked softly, she didn’t think Herbert would speak directly to her. "Thank you," she whispered and looked away. "I apologize for interrupting."

"I won’t forgive a second time." He said and started to walk away.

"Thank you," Mill replied and placed the bowl and rag on the table.

She grabbed Mauve’s hand once again and pulled her from the table. She pulled her to the door, she was careful not to walk too fast as she led Mauve out of the kitchen.

Mill still held her hand as they climbed the stairs. Mauve tried to pull away but she didn’t let her go. They didn’t stop walking until they got to her room. They walked in and Mill closed the door behind them.

The first thing Mill noticed was that the bath water was still inside the room and the candlelight was still by the dresser. The curtains were drawn and the windows open.

Mill led her to the bed and sat her down. "Stay here," she ordered and then walked to the wardrobe.

"Mill, I said I am sorry." She whispered. "I just thought I could stay out longer."

Mill sighed loudly, "I am not angry at you. The graze is in a very obvious place, there is no way The Primus won’t notice it. I will have some explaining to do when he returns."

"Why? It’s my fault," she replied.

"Yes, but he left you under my wing." She said and stood in front of Mauve with a familiar container.

"Is that..."

"Yes, I got it from the physician. I hope it still works," she opened it and took out some of the contents. "Hold still."

Mauve closed her eyes as Mill brought her hand closer to her forehead. She closed her eyes even tighter in fear and then relaxed as the cold substance touched the graze.

Mauve immediately opened her eyes, she had expected it to sting. "It is surprisingly sooth..." The rest of the words died on her lips as the pain passed through her head.

"Ahhh," she yelled.

"Too painful?" Mill asked in horror.

"No," Mauve quickly said even though she was grinding her teeth as she spoke.

"Okay," Mill said and closed the container. "I will help you out of your dress, it is stained with dirt."

"Thank you," Mauve said, the pain in her head was starting to fade and she was left with a cold feeling.

"You should rest up, I will bring your meal up once it’s ready."

"It’s just a graze, Mill. I am tougher than I look." She blurted out.

"I know but if you rest up, it will heal up faster."

"No, it won’t make a diff..."

"Please, Mauve. I don’t want you getting into any more accidents while the Primus is away.

Mauve nodded, "I won’t leave my room." This was her fault, if she had listened to Mill she wouldn’t be stuck in the room now.

"Good," Mill immediately brightened up.
