The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 268. Her Priority
Chapter 268: 268. Her Priority
Jael got to the top of the stairs, looking down he saw Lady Sabrina, and beside her stood Damon and Danag. Erick was nowhere to be found and Jael couldn’t sense his presence nearby.
Either he was still upstairs or he was already outside the castle. Jael frowned a little at this. If it was the former, it was a little annoying as they had to leave soonest if he wanted to make it back here today.
The meeting would definitely drag on for hours, the Lords were hard to please but the main purpose was simply to gather enough members to battle against the palers.
Everything was in place as Kieran had finished the drug. Unfortunately, there was a bit of a setback as the drug wasn’t completed on time and Jael didn’t get a chance to test it out on palers himself before it was time for the meeting.
Kieran, however, reassured him of the proficiency of the drug, having already tested it out himself. Jael wasn’t pleased about this, it certainly lowered the edge he had.
He had wanted to be the one to test it out as this would definitely silence any complaint that they might have.
However, he couldn’t be pissed at Kieran because he knew he must have tried his very best to get it ready.
Still, it was too late to call off the meeting, besides, he wasn’t about to let this deter him. With or without the drug, they would have to set up a team to combat the growing palers and the series of attacks.
This was only a plus to help make sure the palers they fought didn’t rise back up. This was going to be more of a hassle but it had to be done.
A couple of servants stood at the foot of the stairs. Mack was there and so was Herbert. Quite a handful of them had come to see him off. Jael thought this was unnecessary.
He took a step down and a unison "Sire," reached him, followed by low bows.
"Raise your heads," Jael said as he hastened down the stairs.
Damon and Danag rushed toward him as he got closer to the bottom of the stairs. They stopped in front of the stairs just as he got to the last step. "Sire," Danag mumbled and handed him a jacket.
Jael was hesitant but eventually, he stretched out his hand to accept it. He slipped into it as Danag held it up for him. "Where is Erick?" He asked and adjusted the collar.
"He should be here soon," Damon replied. "He had a few things to clear up in your study, hence why he is late."
Jael frowned slightly, he was certain Erick had finished the task he gave him at least two days ago. What could possibly be the delay? He wondered if it had anything to do with the letter he had received or if it was something else.
"Your Grace," Sabrina called and rushed forward. She had a bright smile on her face as she stood right in from of him.
Jael looked at her condescendingly, "Sabrina."
"It saddens me that I have to leave. I truly enjoyed my time here. Thank you for letting me stay."
"The pleasure is all mine," Jael said through closed teeth and walked past her.
He still hasn’t figured out why she grew closer to Mauve.
Unfortunately, he could neither ask about it nor stop it and for the extra days she had spent in the castle, she had gotten even closer.
"Erick," someone called out and Jael looked up to see Erick running down the stairs.
"Sorry, I am late," he called out and almost immediately Jael heard the sound of a door opening and closing. He knew it was Mauve’s door.
Erick got to the end of the stairs and stopped in front of Jael but he paid Erick no mind as his attention remained upwards.
He got a glimpse of her hair and shoulder frame as she rushed down the path. Mill was running after her and calling out to her. It wasn’t loud enough for him to hear the words but he knew she was most likely telling Mauve to slow down.
"Sire," Erick called.
Jael blinked, "What took so long?’ He asked, not that he cared because even if Erick had shown up on time, they would have waited for Mauve.
"I apologize but I was going through some of the letters to see if there was anything I miss." He replied.
"Hmm, did you miss anything?" He asked.
"No," Erick replied.
"Sabrina!" Mauve screamed at the top of her lungs as appeared on the stairway.
Jael lifted his head immediately and he suddenly felt warmer. She was dressed in a dark-colored dress which she held by the hem as she sped down the stairs.
Jael made to take a step forward but Sabrina beat him to it, stopping at the foot of the stairs just in the right position for Mauve to fly into her arms.
"Mauve," she called back, catching her easily. "I didn’t think you’d be awake."
"There is no way I’ll still. be asleep. I can’t believe you’re really leaving," Mauve said, pulling away from Sabrina.
She stood on her feet and her eyes briefly glanced in Jael’s direction but her gaze didn’t hold. She was looking back at Sabrina with a smile and sadness in her eyes. Jael winced at this, he was ticked off.
"I have to," Sabrina said with a shrug.
"I know, safe trip."
"Thank you," Sabrina returned.
Mauve slowly pulled away from her and headed toward his direction. He could tell there was a cold look in his eyes as he stared at her walking toward him but he couldn’t stop it.
There was no excitement to her step, no smile on her lips. Her eyes didn’t hold any sadness. She had more reaction to Sabrina leaving than she did to him and she had called out to Sabrina first even though she had specifically told him to wait.
It was weird that something like that mattered to him. He wanted to be her priority.
