The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 267. Leaving For Lord Garth’s Estate
Chapter 267: 267. Leaving For Lord Garth’s Estate
Mauve opened her eyes to see Jael was out of bed. She sat up immediately and rubbed her eyes. The sheet slid down her chest exposing her nighties.
"Did I wake you up?" Jael said slowly, taking his pants off.
Mauve shook her head, she most likely woke up on her own considering what day today was. She was surprised she was able to get any sleep at all.
Jael was going with Lady Sabrina to Lord Garth’s estate. She knew he intended to leave early and she wanted to see him off. Considering how late she had slept, she had been worried that she might not be able to wake up on time.
"You should go back to sleep, the sun hasn’t even completely set yet," Jael replied with his back to her as he approached the bath.
"I don’t think I will be able to fall asleep again," Mauve replied with a stretch.
"You should, you didn’t sleep until past noon," Jael said as he stepped into the water.
"Well, it’s not my fault I couldn’t sleep early, you’re leaving today."
"It shouldn’t be enough to disrupt your sleep, I will be back before sunrise or would you prefer I didn’t go?" Jael asked while wiggling his brow.
"It is just a night and it is an important meeting." She said and got out of bed.
"Hmm," Jael said, without taking his eyes off her.
"I should get ready too," Mauve said and got out of bed.
"We are leaving before the first meal, I suggest you get some rest. I will see you later."
"I want to see you off," she said stubbornly and walked to the connecting door.
"As you wish," he replied with an odd look on his face.
Mauve glanced back briefly and walked through the door without another word.
Jael watched Mauve go as he sat in the water. He didn’t want to leave her even though it was just a day. It was a little annoying that she didn’t look like she wanted him not to go.
Well, not like he could put it off now, everything was ready, and from the letter he had received Lord Garth had everything in place but knowing he would be missed would be nice.
"What was he thinking about?" He groaned loudly and ran his hand through his hair as he washed it.
He washed himself quickly and got out of the water, wiping himself clean. A servant had already packed, not that there was any need to even though he was coming back the same day.
However, Danag had thought it was necessary on the off chance that they might not return before the night was over. Which was completely impossible and he wouldn’t rather get a sunburn than spend the day there.
He picked up the clothes that had been put out for him to wear. Just as he was putting on his shirt a knock rang out.
Jael frowned, he could tell it was Damon behind the door, if he was getting any interruption, it wouldn’t be from Erick unless something came up.
"Come in," he said nonchalantly.
"Sire," Damon said as he walked in.
"What is it?" Jael asked coldly. "I am still getting ready."
"I know and I didn’t mean to interrupt, however, something came up and I figured you’d want to see it before leaving."
"It can’t wait?" Jael asked and took a step forward.
"It can," Damon said. "I apologize for interrupting." He turned around to leave.
"Wait," Jael suddenly said, "What is it?"
Damon slowly turned around and bowed again, "A letter."
"Is a Lord chickening out? Isn’t it a little too late now? I thought Erick said there was a reply to every letter I sent out. Then what is this?"
"It’s not from the Lord Sire, It is from the human king," Damon announced.
Jael stopped fiddling with his shirt. "What? Why?" He asked with a dark look on his face.
"I don’t know, Sire. I haven’t checked the contents. Erick handed me the letter saying he had received it last night but it was already late and he didn’t want to intrude."
"Are you sure it’s from the Human King?" Jael. asked with a puzzled expression.
There was no reason for Evan to send him a letter and try as he might he couldn’t guess what this was about. For some reason, he feared it might have to do with Mauve.
"It has the seal, I would recognize it anywhere."
"I see, read it then." He really didn’t care what this was about but it was best to see what this was about and get it over with.
"Okay," Damon replied and ripped the letter open.
"Dear Vampire King,"
He started to read and Jael cringed. Still, it was better than hearing the King use his name.
"I hope this letter finds you well. How is my daughter? Better I hope, I didn’t ask but were you able to get in touch with a physician? That shouldn’t have been hard. According to what I hear there are a lot of Physicians around the Kingdom.
I do hope she is doing quite well, after all, I left her in her care. I do hope you have been caring for her. She is my one and only daughter after all."
Jael made a fist, "What is the meaning of this? Skip to the important part."
"Yes, Sire."
"I hope you find the blood...." Damon’s voice drowned out as he skimmed the letter under his breath.
Suddenly, his voice picked up again. "There are rumors that the neighboring kingdoms might attack Greenham because of the peace treaty we signed with the vampires in our region and they think we will use this new friendship to usurp and attack their villages to increase our territory. Such ridiculousness. They plan to strike first with as many forces as they can amass. I estimate the war might happen in a little over three months.
As per our treaty, I would like to ask for some vampires to fight against them. At least three kingdoms are going against us, there is no way we can beat that with the amount of soldiers we have.
I beg you to do the needful and help us out, with your help we are sure to win this war."
Damon slowly raised his head as he finished reading the letter. "That is all, Sire."
"I see," Jael took a step forward and beckoned to Damon to come closer.
The Head guard stopped in front of him with his head bowed.
"Give it to me," Jael said and Damon handed the letter to him with his head still bent. Jael accepted the letter and Damon dropped his hands to his sides.
"No, stretch out your hand," Jael ordered.
Damon looked a little confused but did as he was ordered to without complaint. "Yes, Sire."
Jael then proceeded to rip the letter and carefully placed the pieces onto Damon’s palms and with a stifling smile on his face he said, "Set it ablaze."
Damon looked at the pieces of parchment paper on his palms and then back to Jael. He nodded and then bowed again before heading for the door.
Jael watched Damon leave with disdain on his face. The Human King was quite presumptuous. Did he perhaps forget he was still a vampire? Being on ceasefire terms didn’t automatically mean he had obligations to help them out.
He might have considered it, if he wasn’t already ticked off by Evan. It was definitely something to have over the human king, something to make humans see them in a better light since it would be profitable in the long run but Jael didn’t care for that now.
Besides, he had more important things to worry about. Maybe if palers went after humans, they would have an actual problem and worry less about fighting between themselves.
A knock pulled Jael out of his thoughts and he strutted to the door. He pulled the door open and the servant looked flabbergasted. He recovered quickly and bowed their head.
"I apologize for the intrusion but Lady Sabrina said to let you know she was ready and so was the guard."
"I see," Jael said and walked past him.
He walked past Mauve’s room and briefly glanced at it but he didn’t slow down nor did he stop. Just as he went past it, the door was immediately flown open.
"Are you going to leave without saying goodbye?" Mauve asked.
Jael slowly turned around to see Mauve. She was dressed in a pretty little dress, her hair was in disarray and it was pretty obvious she had rushed out. Did she hear him speaking to the servant?
"I am not leaving yet," he whispered. "Besides, you said it was just a night." Jael threw her words back at her.
She squinted her eyes at him, " I did tell you I wanted to see you off." She said angrily. "Don’t leave before I come downstairs. I will be right there, I promise." The words were barely out of her mouth when she rushed back into the room.
Jael closed his eyes and headed for the stairs, it was a little hard to not go after her. He thought it was adorable when she gave him orders.
