The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 266. You Are Here To Stay

Chapter 266: 266. You Are Here To Stay

Mauve blinked, "What?"

"I said, if I said you could go back home, would you?" He asked again.

"I heard you, why would you ask that?"

Mauve turned her head to look at him. Her heart dropped to her stomach a little. She knew he was acting weird recently but not once has she thought about being sent away. Why would he even ask that?

Mauve jerked, turning her head to face the door at the sound of the knock. "Who is there?" She heard herself say, she felt relief at the interruption. For some reason, she didn’t think she could stomach his response.

"You are avoiding the question," he said against her back.

"What? No, I am not. I am just concerned..." She let the rest of her words drown out as she fiddled with her fingers.

"Then what is your response, would you leave?"

"I..." Mauve’s words died on her lips as the door was immediately thrown open and Mill walked into the room.

She looked distraught and for a second Mauve forgot her own worries.

"Mill," Jael said coldly.

The vampire’s chest lifted and Mauve could see her eyes widened in shock at the realization that Mauve was not alone.

"Sire," Mill called back, She bent her head so fast, Mauve was certain Mill’s head spun at the force. "I didn’t realize you were here."

"You sound like you were looking for me."

"Yes," Mill started to say and then cleared her throat. "I knocked on your room and was going to come at a later time." She slowly raised her head at the end of her words.

Jael squinted his eyes, "Is it important?" He asked.

"No," she shook her head, "I can always come back later.

"Is that so?" He asked.

"Yes, Sire." She replied and quickly headed out the way she came without a word to Mauve.

"I am not asking you to leave," Jael replied as the door closed behind Mill. "I am asking you if you want to leave."

"Why would you ask that?" She asked again. "Did I give you the impression that I want to?" She asked softly. Her head churned as she wondered what this was truly about.

"No," Jael mumbled.

Mauve nose flared and she suddenly felt angry. Was he asking the question to test her? Was this a joke? Why would he just ask something like that?

She knew he had been off lately but she assumed he was just busy and stressed out. She didn’t think it had anything to do with her leaving. Does this have anything to do with the conversation she had with Sabrina? Did she do something wrong? Or did he want her to leave and he was looking for a reason to send her away?

She couldn’t think of what could have suddenly brought on this question. She was sure she had shown in whatever she could that she was fine here. Why would he ask her that?

"Is it because I am friendly with Sabrina even though you told me not to be?"

"What?" Jael asked.

"Or did I do something wrong? You have been off lately and it is hard to pinpoint what is wrong because you never tell me anything. I don’t want to leave and if I gave you the impression that I would as soon as I have the chance to, you’re reading this wrong. I thought I was here to stay, don’t just ask that like you’re trying to chase me off."

Jael groaned and nearly bit his tongue, he could hear the tiny hicks in Mauve’s voice as she spoke. He ran his hand through his hair.

He did not expect this reaction, he had simply thought about himself when he asked. Now that he knew she didn’t have much back in the human kingdom, he couldn’t help but think she was here because she didn’t have a choice and that if a better choice, presented himself.

Even though he kept saying he had no intention of letting her go, he wouldn’t be able to stop her if she wanted to leave and he wanted to confirm this but he had only succeeded in ruining the atmosphere he managed to fix.

Jael groaned and pulled her back against him. "I see."

"Don’t say only that," she said but didn’t fight as he pulled her back.

"I shouldn’t have asked that. You are right, you are here to stay."

Mauve felt shivers run down her back as Jael whispered the words into her ear. She didn’t know if he was just repeating back what she had said.

She turned her head to look at him, to see the expression on his face as he said those words. His blue eyes looked at her with a bit of confusion in them.

"Is something wrong?" He asked.

She shook her head and returned to laying the back of her head against his chest. "Your skin feels colder than usual," she mumbled.

"That’s because you’re exceedingly warm."

"No, I am not." She protested.

"Would you like to eat the last meal in here with me?" He asked suddenly.

She nodded her head, "Yes," she said loudly. There was no way she would say no to spending some time alone with him.

"I will inform Mill of this and our meal will be served here." Mauve nodded and closed her eyes.

She wasn’t sure if this meant things were fine but at least it felt better. He still didn’t tell her anything but he did assure her he wouldn’t toss her aside but maybe not in those exact words.

The uncertainty wasn’t good but she knew it would be greedy for her to ask for more. This was already better than she expected. She was living better here than she did back home.

She had a couple of things to occupy her with and soon enough she would have a huge field to run around. Who knows she might be able to ask Jael if she could learn horse riding or use some kind of weapon.

Mauve shook her head at the thought even she knew that was way too soon. There was no way Jael would approve that. He still wouldn’t let her stay out of the castle for too long.

It was a little sad though. If things were different, she would have totally accepted Sabrina’s request. However, it wasn’t. Just because a new vampire was nice to her didn’t mean the rest were willing to accept her with open hands.

She knew Jael was being pressured to take a mate, Lord Levaton had strictly told her, a human couldn’t become his mate which meant at some point she would have to let a vampire be his wife.

Mauve gave a sad chuckle. Let, made it seem like she had a choice. If he decides to take on a vampire mate today, she couldn’t exactly stop him. It could also be the reason why Sabrina was getting closer to her since it was obvious he favored her...

"What are you thinking about?" He asked suddenly.

Mauve blinked as she realized she had chuckled out loud. "Do you know what we will have for the last meal?" She asked.

"Hmm, I don’t really think about it. Is there something you want?" He asked looking over her head so he could see her face.

She shook her head, "I am fine with anything."

"Make demands if you want anything." He replied.

"I feel like I make too many demands," she mumbled without thinking.

Jael squinted his eyes, "Is that what you think?"

She nodded.

"I like when you make demands," he whispered. "You should tell me what you like more."

"Jael," she cried as his hands went up to her bosom.

He chuckled and brought his hands down. "If there is anything you don’t like, don’t hesitate to let me know."

She nodded, what else could she do? Who knew how long this would last? She might as well take advantage of it.

It was easy to pretend they didn’t have bigger problems and for as long as she could pretend they didn’t, she would. Thinking about other things made her chest hurt.

"It should be time for the last meal soon..."

The words were barely out of his mouth when a knock rang out. "Come in," Jael gave out the order.

The door opened and Mill walked in, "I am sorry to interrupt Sire but the last meal of the night is ready." She announced.

"I will have mine here with Mauve."

"As you wish, Sire," Mill announced. "Also, Damon and Danag are back and they wanted me to let you know both Lords got to their residence safely."

"I see, tell them they can give a report tomorrow night if it is that important."

Mill bowed again, "I understand Sire. I will let them know immediately."

"Are you sure it’s fine if you don’t see them now?"

"Yes," he mumbled. "I am not leaving you. I am sure it can wait."
