The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 261. Like A Child

Chapter 261: 261. Like A Child

Jael felt like a child as Mauve asked him several questions. He wasn’t that tired but there was no way he would admit that he was grumpy because she didn’t come to see him. Did she prefer to stay in the dark room over being with him?

She hadn’t even looked excited to see him. It was a ridiculous reason to be upset but somehow he was. She approached him with concerned eyes.

"You look pale, do you feel unwell?" She asked as she stopped in front of him. She stood on her tiptoes and touched his cheeks.

He flinched at the warmth of her skin against his and she pulled back her hand immediately. Jael bit the inside of his mouth. Somehow he didn’t want her to stop touching him.

"Vampires don’t get sick,’’ he said darkly. His tone was harsher than he intended. "It’s just the lack of blood."

He knew he needed to feed soon, he had overexerted himself. He didn’t have to write out all the letters today but he had ended up doing so.

He had thought that at some point she would come to look for him but she didn’t. He didn’t even realize how much time had passed until a servant told him it was time for the second meal.

She took a step back as he stared at her and for a second he wondered what she would do. She was still staring at him with bright eyes and he found that he could not look away.

"Do you want some?" She asked and slightly bent her neck to the side.

Jael blinked at her question. Of course, he wanted some. He could hear the fast beating of her heart, the blood pumping through her veins. He wanted nothing more than to do that.

However, he didn’t expect her to offer it to him. It reminded him of the first time he had drank from her. He didn’t know a lot of things and for some reason that bothered him.

When she saw he didn’t reply, she took a step forward, still offering her neck. She grabbed the front of his shirt and lifted herself so he could access her neck easily.

Jael was immediately hit with a strong wave of her smell and his fangs elongated immediately. He leaned forward and ran his tongue over her neck, wanting to be as delicate as possible.

Her grip on him tightened as he sank his teeth into her neck. He felt her body stiffened as he broke through her skin. Her heart picked up the pace and Jael held her.

Jael swore as he tasted her on his tongue. It felt as though he had not tasted anything sweeter. He wanted to drink to his full but couldn’t do that.

Jael winced as a flash of Mauve bleeding on his arm popped up in his memory. He had expected nothing less.

He pulled out his fangs and licked the blood that dripped off her neck. He didn’t stop until it stopped bleeding completely.

She pulled back and looked at his face. "Is that enough? It doesn’t feel like you drank much."

"But you still look pale," she mumbled.

"It will take a while," he said and grabbed her wrist. Since the incident when she bled out in his arms, he has been cautious about drinking too much from her.

"Can you walk?" He asked.

She nodded and adjusted her hair so it would cover the holes in her neck.

"Of course, I don’t think you drank anything." She chuckled.

"Let’s go eat," he replied and pulled on her hand to the door.

She nodded and leaned into him. "Yes, I am quite hungry."

"It must be the lack of blood," he replied.

"I don’t think so," she mumbled with a smile.

Mauve looked at Jael as they walked out of the door, he was obviously in a better mood than when he first walked through the door.

She had been angry that she was stuck in the room and didn’t have anything to do. If he had woken her on time, she would have at least had a reason to leave her room for the first meal. Whereas, he had been busy but was somehow angry.

However, she had taken one look at his first and had immediately been overcome with worry. He looked extremely pale and his eyes were shrunken. She recalled what he had looked like before he left for the first meal, it was nothing like this.

She didn’t really understand him and she probably never would. She didn’t know how long this would last and the longer this dragged on, the more she couldn’t help but think about it.

She wanted to be detached but even that was harder, especially when he looked at her like he genuinely cared. She was getting sucked in harder than she wanted to be.

She would do her duty for as long as she could and try to make the most of this. It was certainly better than where she came from and sometimes, she scolded herself for wanting more considering this was better than anything she got.

Things were fine with them now. They barely had issues and even if they did, it was solved quickly. However, she could shake off the feeling that something would go wrong soon.

He didn’t give her as much freedom as she wanted but her movement wasn’t restricted and he did listen to her sometimes. He was also rebuilding the fence for her sake, that was enough, right?

That should mean something but she knew that wasn’t enough to close the gap between them and still not when she had something to hide and still couldn’t fit in with the vampires.

The servants still treated her like a ghost and the Lords were a completely different issue. Lady Sabrina was nice to her at least but even still it would be stupid to think the vampire was on her side.

"What are you thinking about?" He asked as they got to the end of the stairs.

"What?" Mauve asked and jerked her head up to look at him.

"You seem lost in thought and I can see the wheels in your head turning." He replied.

"No, you can’t." She mumbled and looked away. "I was just thinking about the fence and how long it would take before I can move around."

"I see," Jael said with any emotion.

She nodded and looked ahead. She didn’t know what to add to it and by the sound of his tone, he didn’t like what she said.

"It is a huge fence. It won’t be as soon as you want it to be."

"I know and I can wait." She grinned. "To be able to run around in the sun again would be nice."

"You get enough sunlight on the rooftop," Jael said with a stern tone.

"It’s not the same thing," she said with a pout. There isn’t enough space to move around up there. All I do is attend to the flowers. It would be nice if I had more tasks."

"You don’t have to worry, the servants will handle it." He said.

"I like to keep myself busy," she returned. "I also want to learn..." Mauve started to say but immediately held her tongue.

"What do you want to learn?" He asked.

She shook her head, "I still have trouble knitting," she lied. "Yasmin has been busy with the guest so she hasn’t had any time to come help me again."

"I will send her to your room."

"No, no, no. It is fine, I have enough knowledge to practice on my own, I can wait until she is freer."

"Is that so?"

"Yes," she said.

They slowed down as they got to the front of the dining hall. The guards bowed, throwing the doors open simultaneously. Mauve nodded at them but none of them looked in her direction. Not that she had expected less but it still stung.

They walked into the dining hall and Mauve immediately noticed a significant amount of the usual people at the table were gone.

Damon was missing, along with Lord Kieran, Danag, and Lord Garth. However, Lady Sabrina was still around. She couldn’t comprehend what this meant.

"Sire?" They called out rising to their feet.

"Where is everyone else?" She heard herself say before she could think about it.

"My father has gone home, Mauve, and I hear Damon accompanied him. I don’t know about Lord Kieran but I also heard he has left the castle as well." Lady Sabrina answered with a smile on her face.

"Oh, thank you." She replied, smiling sheepishly. She had not expected a straightforward answer.

"You are welcome, Mauve," Sabrina replied.

She took her seat beside Jael and as soon as he was comfortably seated she asked, "Why didn’t you tell me Lord Kieran was leaving?"

"I didn’t expect him to leave so early either."
