The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 260. Hungry
Chapter 260: 260. Hungry
"Could my daughter, Lady Sabrina stay in the castle until the day you intend to leave for the meeting?"
Jael held the Lord’s gaze for a few seconds. He had expected the Lord to ask for something in return but this was going too far.
He could tell Lord Garth was still adamant about him choosing a mate and his daughter at that, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he would take this step.
However, there was no denying Lord Garth’s usefulness. Dealing with the fence and the meeting was pretty important and he could count on the Lord for a job well done.
He didn’t want to hold the meeting here, not just because he couldn’t stand the Lord but he also didn’t want to put Mauve through that again, at least not anytime soon.
He would have to keep her locked up in the room, just to be safe. No harm would likely come to her, however, it was better safe than sorry.
"Yes, Lord Garth. That is fine by me. Lady Sabrina can stay until the meeting, I shall come along with her." Jael said with a stiff expression.
"Thank you so much, Sire. I am sure she will be safe under your watch." Lord Garth said with a low bow.
Jael’s expression fell, "Is there anything else?"
"No," he shook his head vigorously. "I shall be on my way."
He turned on his heel and walked to the door. Jael followed behind him, his expression sour.
"Damon," he called as they got outside the drawing room.
"Assign guards to accompany Lord Garth and you may accompany him as well."
"Sire," he called, turning around to look at Jael. "There is no need to go that far."
"Have a safe trip, Lord Garth. Kieran and Erick, come with me. There are matters that we need to discuss."
Lord Garth bowed as Jael went past him up the stairs with Erick and Kieran behind him.
He got to his floor in no time and slowed down when he got to the front of Mauve’s room. He could tell she was in there but he couldn’t drop by, not right now. He had to deal with a certain issue.
"Is something wrong?" Kieran asked.
"No," Jael said and went past the room. He didn’t stop walking until he got to the front of his study. He pushed open the door and walked in.
Jael got to his seat and threw himself into it. "Have a seat," he said, gesturing to the seats in front of his desk.
"Should I be concerned?" Kieran asked as he pulled back the chair so he could sit on it."
"No," Jael replied. "I figured this is as good a time as any to send out the guards to get what you need for the making of the drug. I intend to send out guards to get them tonight if possible."
"Okay," Kieran replied. "I supposed I should hand you a list."
"You can give it to Erick, he would be in charge of the expenditure." Jael slowly turned his head to look at Erick as if he was expecting a protest from him.
"Me?" Erick asked with wild eyes. "Why me?" He asked stubbornly. "I’d rather not be an errand boy."
Jael frowned, "Are you saying no?"
"No," he replied. "I take anything to leave for a couple of days. I have been stuck here long enough. When do I leave?" He asked.
"Today," Jael said nonchalantly.
"Today, Sire, couldn’t you have given me some time to prepare?"
"It is just a trip to the human kingdom for a few things. What preparation could you possibly need?" Jael asked with a raised brow. "Besides, you don’t have to take the task if you don’t want to. I can assign someone else to it."
"I will take it. Give me the list," Erick said with a glare.
"It is my room, I can pick up on our way back."
"Okay."
"I guess that is decided then. You can leave after the second meal. That should be enough time to get out of the Nolands."
"I understand," Erick said and stood to his feet. He bowed and remained standing.
"That’s all, you both can leave. I have letters to send out." Jael swore.
Kieran stood up. "I will be on my way too, Sire. I no longer have any business here." He replied.
Jael raised his gaze from the table, "You don’t always have to be in such a hurry to leave."
"I have to get to work"
"You won’t get what you need to make the drug until two more nights. You can stay another night."
"I do have some and would like to use them first."
"I can insist that you stay."
"I have stayed enough nights now, Sire. I have to return to the Xanthus Estate. I apologize."
"Ugh, you annoy me most of the time. Do as you wish, Kieran but you are welcome here and I will prefer it if you stopped acting like some stranger."
"Of course not Sire, but I’d rather not impose and I don’t want to leave Xanthus Estate without its Lord."
"Yeah, yeah. Whatever. I hear your excuses. I am sure there is nothing I can say to make you stay. Very well then take as many guards as you need."
"Thank you, your Grace." Kieran bowed and made his way to the door.
Jael watched them go and didn’t stop until the door closed behind them. As the door closed, he picked up the pen and a parchment paper and he began to write.
He needed to send out the letters soon enough, the meeting was in a few days. Jael swore as he put the wooden nail tip to the paper. He hated this part of his job.

Mauve jerked as her door was thrown open. Even Mill who stood behind brushing her hair jumped at the sound of the door banging against the wall.
"Your Grace," Mill said, stepping away from Mauve to bow properly to Jael.
"Carry on," Jael said with a wave of his hand.
Mill nodded and returned her hands to Mauve’s hair.
"Did something happen?" Mauve asked as she looked at him from the corner of her eyes.
"Why?" He crossed the room and stopped behind her.
Mauve looked away from him. "Nothing."
Why did he come to her room if he was in a foul mood? She was curious about what this was about but she also didn’t want to placate his attitude.
He had been busy while she had been stuck in the room all night. She kept her gaze on the mirror, carefully glancing at his face.
"I am done," Mill said and took a step back. "What do you think?" She asked.
She turned her head to the side so she could get a proper look at it. "Thank you, Mill, I do like it." She said with a bright smile.
"You’re welcome," Mill replied.
"Leave us, Mill," Jael said.
"Yes, as you wish." She bowed again to Jael and rushed out the door.
"Are you sure nothing is wrong?" Mauve asked with a frown as she slowly stood up from the chair.
She adjusted her dress and approached Jael who did not attempt to approach her.
"How did the meeting go?" She asked when he didn’t respond.
"Smoothly."
"I see," she said and shuffled on her feet as she stopped in front of him, not knowing how to handle this.
"What did you talk about?" She asked and lifted her head to look at him. She frowned, he looked paler than usual and tired too.
"Nothing important. What did you do?" He asked.
"Not much," she said with a shrug.
"I thought I told you to come look for me," he replied.
"I didn’t want to interrupt, the meeting sounded important..."
"It ended hours ago," he interrupted. "Nevermind, let’s go for the first meal.
"Are you sure nothing is wrong?" She asked, still puzzled.
"Nothing is," he said stubbornly.
"You look pale, do you feel unwell?" She asked and touched his cheeks. It felt colder than usual and he flinched.
"Vampires don’t get sick. It’s just the lack of blood." He replied, his blue eyes widened as he stared down at her.
"Do you want some?" She said softly and slowly bent her head to the side, offering her neck to him.
If he was hungry, he could have just said so, he didn’t have to go this far. She was sure he knew he could take her blood time.
She walked even closer and stood on her tiptoes, grabbing the front of his shirt for support. She did say she didn’t want to placate him but his mood was getting to her and it was her duty. He didn’t even have to ask, he could take her blood anytime he wanted to.
She saw him bend his neck and lean closer to her. His tongue gently caressed her neck, and her grip on his shirt tightened as he dug his teeth into her neck.
