Chapter 259. Lord Garth’s Request
Chapter 259: 259. Lord Garth’s Request
The drawing room had a fireplace that looked like it was never in use. The chairs looked dull but at least they were comfortable to sit on. The curtains were drawn and the
room
Damon and Danag stood behind Jael, Kieran sat next to him while Lord Garth and Erick sat on the opposite seat.
"Kieran," Jael started to say. "Could you give Lord Garth a summary of all that you have been involved in your experiments on the palers?"
"Of course," Kieran replied and began to speak.
Jael tried to listen but it wasn’t anything he didn’t already know about and Kieran was keeping a few vital information from Lord Garth just as they had agreed on.
Kieram soon stopped talking and Lord Garth looked lost in thought for a few seconds. "You’re certain, this will put them to sleep for a long period of time?" He asked.
"Absolutely. At least eleven hours that should definitely be enough time for the sun to deal with them."
"How long will it take to be ready?" He asked.
"Less than a week." Kieran said, showing displeasure at the question. He already explained this while explaining the situation to Lord Garth.
"Sire," Lord Garth said turning to Jael who finally snapped out of it. "What am I to do with this information? It doesn’t seem like you need my help in any way. According to Lord Kieran, more than enough supplies would. be provided by you. Would you like my help in the distribution of the drug or is it about something else?"
Jael pretend to give some thought to what Lord Garth said but there was really nothing to think about. The whole point of this was the hold the meeting in Lord Garth’s residence.
He didn’t have to go through this long process as he was certain Lord Garth would take the order without questions. However, it was better if he felt as though he was part of the decision making process by knowing beforehand what was to come.
"I will hold a meeting in about a week’s time when the drug will be ready and I want you to host it." Jael announced casually.
"Host it?" Lord Garth asked with wide eyes. "Are you sure you should leave such an important task in my hands?"
Jael kept his face neutral even though he could smell the pretense. As much as Lord Garth was trying to pretend he was modest, Jael knew he was more than happy to take this on.
"Of course, I am quite certain you will do a splendid job and I wish I had informed you before now. However, as you have heard I didn’t think we would come up with useable information in such a short time so I ask that you beat with me."
"A week is more than enough time, sire." Lord Garth said with glee. "I will get everything in place. Also, is there any other Lord aware of this development."
Jael watched Lord Garth eyes twinkle ever so gently. He couldn’t even hid his anticipation. Jael smirked to himself and leaned against the chair. This was easy.
He wished the rest of the Lord sucked up to him like this, that would definitely make his job easier rather the most of them wanted him to fail woefully simply because he wasn’t doing things as they liked.
"No, Lord Garth, this is exclusive information given to the host. The main purpose of this meeting is to create a squad that Danag, my personal guard would personally be in charge of ."
At Jael’s words Lord Garth look to Danag and the guard gave him a curt bow with a straight expression.
"I hope this goes without saying but we would expect guards from the Garth’s household."
"Of course, anything I can do to help. I will send in my best guards."
"That would be most lovely, Lord Garth."
"However," Lord Garth said suddenly. "I do have a question."
Jael’s brows dip, it wasn’t something he did on purpose. "What might your question be?"
"How would the drug be administer? I am still unsure about how proficient this sedation would be at putting the palers to sleep and for such a long period at that but if Sire says it is bound to work, I do believe this. Pardon my questions but I am a little concerned."
"I hear your concern, Lord Garth but unfortunately, I cannot disclose too much until the drug is completed and I have tested it."
Lord Garth eyes bulged, "You intend to test it out yourself?"
"Indeed, I believe in Kieran and if he is certain that it will put a paler to sleep for that long I will take his word for it."
"Yes Sire," Lord Garth said and bent his head.
"Forgive my doubt."
"No, it is well placed. The right questions will only bring out the right solutions. Can I count on you for your support and discretion?"
"Certainly, Sire and if there is anything more. Please do not hesitate to let me know."
"Since, the venue and time has been concluded I will send out the letters to the Lords concerned. Would you still require a letter, Lord Garth?" Jael asked with a smirk.
The Lord chuckled, "No Sire. Would Levaton be exempted from this?"
"No, all Lords with estates are expected to be in attendance. There is no exception, to not attend would mean siding with the palers."
Lord Garth nodded vehemently. "I will get ready, Sire."
"That is all, Lord Garth. Please get ready to leave the castle. I will send out enough guards to accompany you and make sure you reach home safely."
"There is no need to go that far, I am quite certain I can protect myself." Lord Garth said with his head bobbling left and right.
"I insist," Jael said. Lord Garth knew it was suicidal to walk around in the night without enough guard to take on at least two palers now, he found the fact that Lord Garth was trying to be polite annoying.
"You are vital. to our fight against the palers, if anything should happen to you it will be a huge loss on us. I have to ask you to be careful."
"I will be, Sire. I am honored to have your concern."
Jael smiled stiffly and turned to Erick who adjusted in his seat at Jael’s stare.
"A favor, Sire." Lord Garth said calling Jael’s attention to him again. "I was going to begin working on the fence as soon as possible but I wouldn’t have to ask that I put it off until after the meeting. I wouldn’t want anything to interrupt. However, you can be rest assured that the rebuilding of the fence will commence as soon as the possible."
Jael paused for a second, right now he would rather rebuild the fence first before dealing with the Lords but dealing with the Palers was more important and he couldn’t do that unless they had this meeting.
This was also a way to keep Mauve safe with the palers roaming, a fence wouldn’t even stop them and they were likely to wreck the fence. It was best they were dealt with first.
However, for some reason he had an urgency to try to make the palace a good enough place for her as soon as he possibly could. It didn’t feel like he had enough hold on her to keep her here and it sort of made him uneasy.
Right now, she was here because she had to and considering how bored she has been lately he better start looking for solutions.
"It isn’t that much of a big deal and I am certain I can come up a with a solution that can fit in both of them, Sire. You can count on me."
"No," Jael said sternly. "The fence can wait. This is more important. Besides, a week or more before work begins wouldn’t change anything."
Lord Garth stood to his feet and bowed. "Thank you for understanding, Sire. I best on my way. I want to make sure everything is in place on time."
"Of course," Jael said. "The faster you leave, the safer it is."
Lord Garth head for the door and Jael stood to his feet, the guards rushed ahead and held the door open as they approached it.
Suddenly, Lord Garth turned on his heel so his front was facing Jael. Jael stopped in his tracks, reacting immediately. Kieran was a little slow and ended up bumping into him.
"Is something wrong?" Jael asked with a huge frown. Somehow he could tell whatever would come out of Lord Garth’s mouth would surely annoy him.
"I hate to be this much of a bother, Sire but I would really like this favour of mine to be granted."
Jael’s expression didn’t change. "Speak freely, Lord Garth." He said through closed teeth.
"Could my daughter, Lady Sabrina stay in the castle until the day of the meeting?"
