The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 258. Care About Her
Chapter 258: 258. Care About Her
Mauve sat on the bed as she waited for Mill to return with her bath water. She was tired even though she just woke up and her neck hurt. She wondered if it had to do with the fact that she slept in a particular position for such a long time.
She turned her neck to the left and right side in an attempt to release the tension. She then stretched the rest of her body. She felt a bit sore but it was nothing a little warm bath couldn’t take care of.
As if on cue with her thoughts, the door flew open and Mill walked in with the tub and a servant walked behind her with the bathwater.
She watched them place it in the corner before slowly rising to her feet with the sheets still wrapped around her body. She stood beside the bed until the servant left the rolma nd Mill walked to where she stood.
Together, they tried to untangle the mess as it was not only wrapped around her legs but it was also heavy. Finally, they succeeded and Mill gathered the sheets and placed them on the bed while Mauve started walking away from the bed to the tub.
Just before she would reach the tub. The connecting door flew open and Jael walked into the room, dressed in his usual outfit. A pair of pants and a loose shirt.
The rope around his neck was untied, revealing his chest. His hair was also wet but thankfully, it wasn’t dripping.
"Sire," Mill said as she caught sight of him and immediately bent her head.
Mauve had turned around to look at the sound of the door opening but as soon as she saw him, she turned back, hiding her naked body as best as she could from him
"What are you doing here?" She yelled with her back to him.
Jael grunted loud enough for her to hear and crossed the room to reach her in two long strides. He stopped behind her and pulled her back against him.
"That’s not what I want to hear," he replied, whispering into her ears.
"Jael," she cried and pulled away from his grasp. She got into the tub and folded herself with her knees to her chest while glaring at him. She tried to keep a serious look but could tell her cheeks were red.
She glanced at where Mill stood but the Vampire still had her head bent and she didn’t seem to have witnessed anything. Somehow, she felt relief at this.
She looked back at him and he didn’t even flinch at her glare. He walked closer and squatted, brushing hair out of her face.
"Would you prefer we didn’t have an audience?"
It took all her willpower to not say something snarky and there was no way she would have this kind of conversation with Mill in the room.
"What do you want?" Aren’t you supposed to go for the first meal?" She asked, not hiding her annoyance.
Jael’s smirk increased. "Do I need a reason to come to your room?"
"Apparently not." She rolled her eyes a little.
"At least look happy to see me." He said with a hint of sadness but it was quickly covered up.
Mauve opened her mouth to respond to his statement but he was already speaking.
"I know you think you can still make it for the first meal but don’t even think about it," he said with a smirk.
"I..." Mauve started to say but quickly held her tongue. He had read her mind, if she tried to lie he would know she was lying and call her out on it.
"I will ask a servant to bring your meal on my way out. So, you don’t have to worry about it.
"Okay," she said and pouted. There was no point arguing, she could hear the finality in his words.
"What will you do today?" He asked softly, while staring intensely at her.
She looked away from his face, "I don’t know, I’ll think of something."
It wasn’t like there was much to do. She would probably have to spend most of her day either upstairs, in the library or her room. She didn’t like any of the options but she couldn’t dare say that.
"Hmmm. I will be busy for most part of the evening and most likely up until midnight, depending. However, you can interrupt any time. Just tell anyone to lead you to where I am."
"Oh, what are you going to do?" She asked with a little frown, looking up at him.
Jael rubbed on the furrow on her brows spreading out the skin. His fingers stayed on her face even after her frown had disappeared.
"I have a meeting with Lord Garth." He replied, his eyes scanning her face.
"Oh, alright. I don’t think I will have any reason to interrupt." She mumbled. "I am sure anything that will come up can wait until the meeting is over."
She blinked, wondering if her eyes deceived her. Did he look disappointed or was the dim light making her see things? Did he want her to interrupt?
Lately, she couldn’t help but think she was meddling too much. He didn’t seem pissed by it but she didn’t know when she might cross the line so it was best to not get too close to it.
"Okay," he said and stood to his feet. "If I see you at the dining hall. There will be consequences and you won’t get off with just a scolding." He said with a stern look but there was a twinkle in his eyes.
"I won’t go there, I promise. I will eat the first meal here." She replied.
"Alright, I will come to you as soon as the meeting is over. Tell Mill if you need anything."
She nodded her head and squeezed her legs. She watched him head for the door and didn’t look away even when he got to the door. He stopped in front of it and turned to look at her briefly before he opened the door and walked out.
Mauve rolled her eyes, he was demanding. She didn’t hate it though and in a way it made her feel like he really cared about her.
In this case, however, she had to admit it was better not to show up than be late. She would need at least thirty minutes to bathe and get dressed. By then the first meal would be over. Why didn’t he just wake her up in the first place?
"Mauve," Mill called.
"Yes," she said, snapped out of her thoughts.
"I can’t wash you if you’re still wrapped up like that." She said with a knowing smile.
"Oh, sorry." Mauve said and unwrapped her arms from her knees as she relaxed into the tub.
"It’s no problem," she said and got to work.
She started with her hair, washing slowly and carefully. Mauve let her eyes close to the feel of Mill’s hands on her scalp. She let her thoughts drift.
*****************************
The first meal was uneventful and Jael could neither remember how it started nor how it ended. He knew Lord Garth had spoken to him about something important during the course of the meal but for the life of him he couldn’t remember the exact details. All he could recall was it had something to do with Lord Levaton. However, since he couldn’t remember, it mustn’t have been so important.
He had tried keeping his attention on what was in front of him but somehow it kept straying back to Mauve. How she had looked as she laid on his chest fast asleep. How she had slowly awoken. She filled his thoughts more than anything else.
He wanted the fence built as soon as possible. He had not liked the expression on her face when he asked what she would do for the day.
He would be lying if he said he didn’t know she wanted to go outside more often. He didn’t want her to wish she was back home, especially since it wasn’t much of a home in the first place.
As soon as the first meal was over he briskly made his way to the drawing room with Lord Garth and Kieran.
Damon had to go with them as the new guard. Danag because the discussion concerned Palers. However, Erick was the only one who wiggled his way into the meeting but there was no way to get him out.
Jael allowed him to be a part of it as Erick was a Lord and the heir to an estate. He was bound to hear this eventually. There was no need to keep him out of it.
"Kieran," Jael said he sat comfortably in the drawing room.
Danag and Damon were on their fest while the remainder of them were seated.
"Could you please give Lord Garth a summary of all that you have been involved in your experiments on the palers?"
