The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 257. Petty

Chapter 257: 257. Petty

"I was lonely all the time, the queen..." she paused, looked away, and cleared her throat. "My mother was busy most of the time and I didn’t have a lot of friends so I was mostly by myself."

"I see," Jael said and went quiet.

Shocked at the silence Mauve turned her head to the side so she could see his face. His head was resting on the pillow with his arms behind them and his eyes were closed.

She frowned slightly as she stared and him and he lifted one eyelid to look at her. She moved closer and rested her chin om his chest and stare at him.

"I didn’t interact very much with my siblings, I wonder if it was the age difference." She closed her eyes knowing it was more of the fact that they were half siblings than the age difference. However, she couldn’t tell Jael this.

It had hurt to deny her mother, it would be a mess if she ruin things now. Besides, he didn’t seem particularly interested and his response had pissed her off.

"What about you?" She asked at the silence. She placed the side of her face on his chest and drew lines on his chest.

"It was a long time ago, I can barely remember. Try to get some sleep."

Jael placed his palm on her head, he had asked the question even though he had not expected her to say the truth but somehow it pissed him off that she didn’t.

"I am not sleepy yet," she said stubbornly and removed his hand from the top of her head. "You asked about mine, it’s only fair if you tell me yours."

"Are you curious?" He asked and open his eyes.

She turned her head so she was look at his face again and nodded, her chin hitting his chest as she moved her head.

"Go to sleep," he said stubbornly. "The deal was to answer my question in exchange for telling you why I changed the head guard. Your response was vague."

"That’s because there really isn’t much to tell," she said and pouted. "The details are insignificant and boring. I was a typical child."

Mauve looked down at his chest, there was no way she would say more without divulging what she should and for the life of her she couldn’t come up with a lie.

Besides, Jael would be able to tell if she was lying, it was best to keep it as vague as possible. Which was a little painful as she did want to know about him but if she wasn’t willing to tell him why would he tell her.

He leaned forward and kissed her on the forehead. "You should get some sleep. You need it."

Mauve nodded and adjusted so she was comfortable on him. She didn’t want to keep lying to him about who she really was but she had already gone this far, there was no point getting cold feet now.

Besides, everything was bound to end was the truth was out and that was the only thing keeping her here. Considering, she didn’t have anywhere else to return to, she couldn’t risk it.

Jael watched Mauve furrowed brow as she laid on his chest, he could tell she was still worried. He ran his hand through his hair. It wasn’t hard to pretend he didn’t know, however, seeing how hard she was trying to keep it away from him waa a bit pissing.

It was petty of him to not tell her about his childhood but he would have to tell her about Louis and he didn’t want to do that if she would keep her mother from him.

It was annoying that he wanted to hear it from her. He brushed some hair out of her face and she shook a little. Her eyes fluttered open and she looked at him with a little smile.

She looked drowsy and he could tell she would fall asleep soon. He placed his hand on the small of her back and she pressed her body against him.

He could feel every inch of her small warm body as they laid underneath the sheet which stopped just over her bottom, leaving he back exposed.

He could see a bit of her scars as she laid face down. It stood out darkly. Jael winced a little. Annoyed at himself for making her go through something like that. It would happen again, that much he was certain.

He rubbed his hand against her back and she groaned satisfactory but Jael knew this was a reflex response as she was already fast asleep.

He smiled to himself as he closed his eyes in an attempt to sleep. He knew he wouldn’t have any problems falling asleep with her sleeping on him.

Mauve woke up with a yawn. She was lying on something cool. She opened her eyes to see Jael looking down at her.

"Finally awake?" He asked with a smirk.

Mauve closed her eyes immediately, hiding her face from him. "Did I sleep like this throughout?" She asked, her words sounded muffled with her palm over her face.

"Wasn’t I heavy? It must have been uncomfortable to have my weight on you for that long."

"Don’t worry too much, to me you’re as light as a feather. The first meal will be ready in fifteen minutes..."

"Fifteen minutes!" Mauve yelled in horror, sitting upright.

"Yes," Jael replied and sat ip beside her. You don’t have to attend, I’ll tell Mill to serve you in your room. Make sure to get as much rest as you need."

"Why didn’t you wake me up?" She asked at turned to look at him.

His eyes briefly glanced down before returning back to her face

"Because..."

"Jael," she cried and grabbed the sheet, pulling it out up to her chest. She had been so shocked she overslept that she forgot she was naked.

"Because," he said with a smirk. "You were sleeping so peacefully, I didn’t want to disturb you."

"But it will be rude if I don’t attend the first meal." She replied grabbing the sheet tightly so it wouldn’t slip off.

"You have my permission," Jael said and kissed her forehead.

"That not enough," she replied. "I am sure if I hurry up, I can make it."

"Well, I say it is." He pinched her cheeks and got out of bed.

He stood up and Mauve got a full view of his behind. She blushed and looked away. She looked back to see Jael staring back.

Annoyed at the knowing look in his eyes, she got out of bed, dragging the huge cover clothes with her. It was bit heavy but she didn’t want to leave room without any sort of covering.

"You can stay," he said as he got into the bath. "Mill can attend to you hear."

Mauve frowned, did they bring a fresh bath water while she was asleep? Was she that tired that she didn’t hear anything. Also, was he waiting for her to wake before he would have his bath?

It seemed like the only explanation because even though she could tell this wasn’t the water from night before, there wasn’t any steam which meant it had cooled down.

"No, thank you." She mumbled dragging the sheets to the connecting door. It was quite heavy and it made her movement slow.

"Too bad." She heard him say as she got to the door. She pushed it open and walked to her room without looking back.

She rested her back on the closed door and sighed. The sheet was a pool around her feet. There was a lot candlelight on the bedside table and on the dressing table.

Mill had been here, nothing else seemed out of place and her bed didn’t even have a wrinkle. She pulled away from the door and sat on the bed.

She couldn’t remember the last time she slept in it and she might not sleep in it anytime soon. She didn’t have any complaints, it was just something to think about.

As soon as she sat down the door was thrown open and Mill walked in. Mauve immediately stood to her feet with the sheet still around her.

"Mill," she cried and tried to take a step forward but she almost fell headfirst as the sheet entangled around her legs.

"Don’t move," Mill said rushing to her. "I wasn’t sure if you were awake yet. The Primus said not to disturb you."

"I understand, it is fine. I didn’t think I was that tired."

"It is good that you got enough rest. I will get your bath water and then your meal afterward."

"Do you think I can make it for the first meal?" Mauve suddenly asked.

Mill frowned slightly, "But the Primus said I should give you’d eat here," she said with a concern expression.

"Only if I don’t make it in time but I am sure I can if I bath quickly." She said.

"Of course," Mill said still not convinced. "I will get your bath water."

"Thank you."
