Chapter 251. Softness In His Gaze

Chapter 251: 251. Softness In His Gaze

Mauve tried to keep a straight face as Jael watched her but it was pretty hard when he was staring at her like that. His eyes trailed her body with reckless abandon, he didn’t even try to hide how much he was ogling her.

However, she couldn’t deny that was a softness in his gaze, it didn’t feel only sensual. Still, it didn’t make it bearable.

She kept her gaze down, feeling her cheeks burn. She wasn’t just embarrassed but felt a bit self-conscious. She glanced at the scars on her shoulders and quickly looked away.

The corners of the room were dark and even though candles were placed in strategic places in the room. It still wasn’t enough to brighten up the huge space.

Soon enough Mill helped her out of the water and dried her up. The vampire moved quickly and in less than ten minutes she was dressed. They had decided on the dress before the bath.

It was a gray dress with big long sleeves which were tight around her wrists. The dress was a bit low cut and some cleavage showed. It was also quite long, stopping just as it got to the floor. The layers underneath the dress gave it a full look.

Mauve sat down and watched as the dress pooled around her. For a second she wondered if this was too much and maybe she should have gone with something less.

However, before she could process the thought Mill began to brush her hair. Without asking her what she would like Mill got to work on her hair.

The dim light barely showed her a proper reflection in the mirror, not that it mattered, she was certain she would be fine with whatever Mill did.

"All done," Mill said and brought the light closer to face. "What do you think?"

Mauve turned her head to the left and right side as she looked at the way Mill did her hair. Her hair was parted a little to the left, a bit of it was braided and used as a band to hold her hair in place and out of her face.

The rest of her hair fell down her back, past her shoulders. A few strands managed to escape but other than that, it looked well done.

"I like it," she said with a shrill voice, expressing her excitement. She raised her head to look at Mill as she spoke.

The vampire smiled at her, "I am glad you like it." She said with a proud look on her face.

Mauve nodded her head and looked back at the mirror. She had to admit that Mill was getting better at styling her hair.

Mill took a step back and offered her hand to Mauve. Mauve accepted it and Mill lifted her off the chair effortlessly.

"Thank you," she said with a bright smile.

"You’re welcome," Mill said and let go of her hand.

Mauve looked at Jael and saw that he was on his feet. He was closer to the dresser than the bed but he didn’t come closer and just stood watching her as if he was waiting for her to come to him.

She didn’t, instead, she shuffled on her feet feeling like she may have gone overboard but Mill had not objected when she had suggested dressing up for dinner.

"Come," Jael ordered.

It was one word but Mauve felt it reverberate through her and it brought a smile to her lips. She nodded and grabbed her dress, lifting it a little as she approached him.

She stopped directly in front of him and his eyes scanned her face. He leaned forward and touched the side of her face.

"If I knew that you’d put this much effort, I would have changed more than my pants." He said as his cold fingers ran up and down her face.

She giggled and leaned into his cold palm. "We have guests, I figured it’s best if I dressed appropriately."

Jael nodded briefly, his eyes never straying from her face.

Mauve’s eyes fell to his chest as it was hard to return his gaze with the way he intensely stared at her.

"Mill wanted me to go with black but I was worried it might look like I wanted to attend a funeral or something like that." She said with a dry laugh.

Jael lifted her chin with a finger so she would be forced to look at his face. "I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing you in a black dress."

He pulled her closer to him and bent his head to take her lips. The kiss was brief, their lips only touching for a few seconds.

"Let’s go," he said casually rubbing her flushed cheeks.

Mauve nodded, her lashes fluttering as she tried to recover. He grabbed her wrist and pulled her to the door. Mill bowed her head as they got to the door.

Jael pulled it open and walked out without glancing at her. Mauve managed to wave at her before the door shut.

He walked down the stairs, mindful of her walking behind her. He led the way with a steady pace, one she could easily keep up with.

He glanced at her and Mauve looked down as their eyes met. His hands then moved from her wrist and their fingers interlocked. Mauve raised her head to look at him but Jael kept his gaze straight ahead.

She smiled at her as they got to the end of the stairs and she leaned into him for support. He reduced his pace some more and after a while, they got in front of the dining hall.

The door was flung open and Jael walked in with Mauve clutching his arm tightly. Suddenly, he stopped and slowly turned his head around.

"Gather as many guards and servants, I want to speak as soon as the last meal is over."

The guard looked stunned for a second and then quickly recovered. "As you wish, Sire." He said with a low bow.

Jael quickly turned his head and continued walking.

"Did something happen?" Mauve asked with a concerned look on her face.

Jael shook his head, "No, there is just an announcement I need to make. He looked down at her with a soft smile and then raised his head back up.
