Chapter 246. Her Father’s Sin
Chapter 246: 246. Her Father’s Sin
She put her palm to her lips and chuckled, "You’re cute when you’re obedient."
His expression soured some more and Erick instinctively stretched out his hand to grab her but she stepped out of his reach just as his hand was about to touch her.
Her gaze darkened. "Erick, it seems you don’t understand the situation you’re in, just one word from me and..." She paused dramatically and slowly spun on her heels.
"Enough! I am not dealing with this shit." He yelled and walked past her, brushing her out of the way as he made his way up the next set of stairs.
She chuckled as she watched him go, her shoulders shaking as if she was fighting to control herself.
"Psychotic bitch!" He muttered as he stomped up the stairs.
He knew she was playing him but he had no choice but to act this way as she had everything to gain by telling the Primus.
Knowing Sabrina, she would try to drag this out as long as she could but she would eventually sell him out, he couldn’t dare trust that if he did as she wanted she’d let it go.
No, she wouldn’t do that. She would likely try to make him feel as miserable as possible while she bid her time for the perfect moment to expose him. He needed to speak to Danag and he had to do so now.
Erick took the stairs two at a time and got to the top of the stairs in no time. Without slowing down, he went up the next set of stairs and didn’t stop walking until he got in front of Danag’s room.
He took a deep breath and raised his hand to knock twice. "Come in," Danag said, he sounded tired.
Erick paused for a few seconds before he carefully turned the knob and stepped in one foot at a time.
The only source of light in the room was the moonlight streaming in from the drawn curtains. Only one of the windows was open and a bit of breeze flew in troubling the curtains.
Danag frowned as he laid eyes on him. "It’s unlike you to be so mellow," Danag said with a yawn. "What did you do this time?"
He was sitting on the bed with his elbows on his knees, his head was originally bent forward and he had only lifted it to look at Erick. Beside him on the bed was a letter, it had an unrecognizable seal on it.
"Why are you quick to assume I did something wrong?" Erick snapped.
Danag raised a brow. "Then leave me be, I don’t have time to deal with your shit."
"Forgive my yelling. Did something happen?" Erick asked and took a step forward.
Danag jerked his head upward and raised his eyebrows. "Aside from the fact that I failed to get the king to read this, everything is peachy." As he spoke Danag picked the letter from the bed while staring suspiciously at Erick.
"What’s it about?" Erick asked using his chin to gesture to the letter in Danag’s hand.
"You go first," Danag said and sat upright. "What’s this about?" He folded his hand still holding the letter, hiding it from view.
"What do you mean?" Erick asked, his eyes darting around.
"Don’t play dumb with me. I can’t remember the last time you knocked on my door before walking in and now you’re apologizing for yelling. Just what exactly did you do, I can tell it’s pretty bad."
Erick cleared his throat and looked away. "I might have said something I shouldn’t have.
Danag frowned, "That’s not enough to make you docile. You say shit all the time. What did you say?"
Erick sighed and adjusted his sleeves. "I may or may not have said something about getting rid of the princess but I didn’t mean it that way. The problem is Sabrina was the one I told and she is threatening to tell the Sire. Knowing her, she most likely would."
Danag blinked and blinked again. "Is that it?"
"What do you mean, is that it?! Do you have any idea what would happen to me if the Primus found out? I would be chased out of the castle. I can’t afford to go back to my parents, this is my only home. His grace would never look at me the same way if he finds out that I do mean ill for the princess and according to Sabrina, my attitude doesn’t help."
"Would you stop calling her that?" Danag said, his jaw tight.
Erick looked puzzled for a second, "Calling her what?"
"A princess, she is no princess." He spat out. "I can’t believe the humans did this and thought they could get away with this. It’s almost laughable. Do they think we are idiots?"
"Wait a minute, what do you mean she is no princess?" Erick said, taking two steps forward so he was closer to Danag who sat on the bed.
"She is the daughter of the King but the queen isn’t her mother and until a couple of months ago, she was living like a peasant. No one considers her a princess, not even her own father." Danag’s eyes darkened. "To offer the Primus such, how disrespectful."
Erick’s eyes widened. "The physician was able to get the information in such a short time," he mumbled.
Danag glared at him. "That’s beside the point."
"I know, I know," Erick said, waving his hand. "How does that mean she isn’t a princess? Her father is a King."
Danag’s jaw tightened. "Aside from the fact that she was born out of wedlock, her mother is a lowly maid. The humans themselves don’t consider her to be a princess. They still don’t. To them she’s a bastard, her father’s sin. She was completely unknown until the wedding. It makes sense why she had no influence during the trip here. To think we have been fooled to this extent."
"She’s an illegitimate daughter?" Erick asked, still dazed from the barrage of new information.
"That’s what I have been trying to tell you. She is leaving, the Primus shouldn’t be given such inferior goods."
