The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 204. Pardon My Impertinence

Chapter 204: 204. Pardon My Impertinence

Jael frowned as he stared down at the physician. It was over two weeks but the poor human was still frightened of him. The strong smell of fear permeated the air around him.

Jael might say it was better but the difference didn’t seem significant. However, this wasn’t unusual. Humans’ fear of him was more than the average vampire.

Was something wrong with Mauve then? Because she overcame her fear relatively quickly or at least there was some significant difference within the first couple of weeks.

He shook his head, the first time he had seen her, he had found her amusing and he could get over how small and fragile she was. He still thought all those things but he would be lying if said there was nothing more now.

He grunted and closed her room door. He wanted to keep her close and safe. He also wanted to give her whatever she wanted.

He knew the vampire regions didn’t come close to human territory. He was worried that one day she would get tired of it and want to leave.

Of course, he could always tie her up and throw away the key but she wouldn’t be happy that way and he wanted her happy. It was the least he could do with what she had gone through.

Jael ran his hand through his hair. What was wrong with him? He needed to clear his thoughts and concentrate on important things like getting rid of the Palers.

He pushed the door to his study open and the smell of vampire blood hit his nostrils. It was pretty faint but he could smell it all right. He didn’t need to think about who it belonged to.

"Sire," Erick said. He was standing in front of the table and as he turned to look at Jael he had his back to it.

Jael merely grunted his response. The study didn’t look any different except for the large number of letters stacked on the table.

Jael’s eyes turned to slits, this was ridiculous. He was just away for three weeks, why are there that many letters? From whom? Why?

"Who are these letters from?" Jael asked darkly.

"The Lords, Lord Garth sent quite a couple and so did Lord Phelan. A couple of other Lords sent letters too..."

"Didn’t you already read them and replied to them? Why are they still here?"

Erick shuffled on his feet. "About half are unopened. I read only about half but my reply makes no difference as they don’t acknowledge it and just send more letters. Especially Lord Phelan, his letters get even more aggressive and he thinks you’re ignoring him on purpose no matter how many times I have sent an explanatory letter. I stopped replying about a week ago and there have been five letters since then."

"Well, you could have at least sorted them out to make it easier for me," Jael mumbled as he walked to the table.

An expression passed through Erick’s face and Jael almost burst out in laughter. He didn’t need anyone to tell him Erick was sick of this.

"I’ve barely gotten any sleep recently, Your Grace. The worst part is when they deliver the letter, the servants can’t accept it. I have to accept it myself."

"I leave for three weeks and the Lords get this entitled."

He expected this kind of tantrum but he didn’t calculate the extent. They were nothing but spoiled brats who thought he was at their beck and call.

He dropped to his seat and stared at the contents of the table. There was no way he would read all these letters. He would need at least a full week to go through them.

Jael loudly groaned, it was a hassle to reply. Yeah, he could really refill whatever blood he lost but still didn’t make it annoying.

It was his fault, if there wasn’t enough blood to go around they wouldn’t be wasting it in this manner. Five letters in a week, Lord Phelan must be out of his mind.

It was about time he dealt with their disrespectful attitude and entitlement. However, to do that he needed results and the damned Lords knew he didn’t have them.

This was expected, it’s been only months since he decided to accept the Kingship role. They did absolutely nothing while they waited for him to take over and now they wanted results? This was a joke.

He ground his jaw and picked a letter. He could tell it was Lord Phelan immediately and he tossed it.

"Sire," Erick cried, going after it.

Jael paused and frowned, Erick wasn’t the kind to care about things like these. What did Danag tell him?

"What did Danag tell you?" He asked, darkly.

Erick froze as he bent to pick up the letter. "Nothing particularly," his voice shook a little.

"I am not going to repeat my question, Erick."

Erick sighed and stood to his full height. "Depending on several actions there might be an opposition."

"You believe him?" Jael said with laughter in his voice.

"No, I don’t think there is anybody in their right mind who will go against you but I don’t want to make it any worse."

Jael frowned, that wasn’t enough to turn Erick into a trained dog. What was that sly head guard keeping away from him?

Under his orders, Danag was to remain in the Xanthus castle as his punishment for trying to drag Mauve into his scheming. He might have to retract the current punishment just so he could keep an eye on him.

He would worry about that after he had dealt with all these. Jael picked another letter and he recognized it as Lord Garth’s. He opened it immediately, he was sure he could deal with the contents.

"Your Grace," Erick suddenly called.

Jael slowly raised his head from the letter, he didn’t try to hide his vexation. "What?"

"Pardon my impertinence, Your Grace." Erick started.

Jael’s frown deepened, he could already tell that whatever question Erick was about to ask would definitely piss him off more than the letters on the table.

"But I can’t help but notice my cousin, Lady Jevera neither returned with you nor ahead of you. Is there a particular reason why?"
