Chapter 203. It Goes Without Saying
Chapter 203: 203. It Goes Without Saying
"I just need him to open the door, I can find my way there." She pouted.
"He accompanies you and makes sure nothing is out of place," Jael replied.
"Okay," she said and took a step down the stairs. There was really no point arguing as long as she got to the rooftop that is all she cared about.
They got to the dining room to see everyone else was already seated. Mauve looked at no one in particular as she walked into the dining hall.
"Sire," they all said and bowed as he got close enough. Even Jean was on his feet. Danag was still not back and Mauve wondered when he would be back. She made a mental note to ask jael.
Jael barely acknowledged their greetings before he sat in his usual position. He pointed to the seat next to him and Mauve had no option but to sit there. Usually, she sat a seat or two away from him.
The servants moved quickly serving out the meal on the plates that were already set out. Mauve audibly mumbled her thanks before she dug into the meal.
Halfway through the meal, Jael slowly glanced to his right to see Erick staring at him. He squinted his eyes. "Erick," he called, not hiding his annoyance.
"Yes, Sire," Erick replied, jumping on his seat.
"Even if you stare a hole through my shirt, it is not going to make me eat faster." He sounded extremely irritated. Mauve paused her food and raised her head to see what was happening.
"I apologize, Sire." replied a fidgety Erick, "I got distracted."
Jael scoffed and turned away from him. Mauve looked at Erick and she could see that the vampire was visibly distressed. He adjusted his shirt and loosened the rope around his neck. Mauve hoped that whatever the problem was, it wasn’t unsolvable.
Conversation was almost non-existent and Mauve just concentrated on eating. The only person that looked unperturbed was Damon.
As soon as she was done, Mauve pulled back her chair and stood to her feet. "Thank you for the meal," she said to no one in particular.
She did a soft courtesy and started for the door. Jael grabbed her arm and stood to his feet. She could tell he was waiting for her so it wasn’t completely unexpected.
"Sire," said an agitated Erick.
Jael loudly groaned, "I will meet you in the study room in a couple of minutes."
Erick nodded and stood on his feet. He gave a soft bow as Jael walked out of the room. Damon remained in his seat with a look of amusement on his face.
"Enjoying my discomfort, are you?" Mauve heard Erick say.
"Whatever do you mean?" The amusement in Damon’s voice was as clear as day.
"Ha, it’s only expected that someone of your social standing wouldn’t understand important matters," Erick scoffed.
"I really don’t care..."
The door closed and the rest of the conversation was drowned out. Mauve winced, now that Danag was here to stop Erick, she could only imagine the constant fight. They were like little children.
However, she couldn’t deny that Erick looked very concerned. She looked at Jael and there wasn’t even a hint of worry on his face. He just looked irritated.
"What?" He asked, noticing her stare.
"Nothing," she replied and quickly looked away from him.
"If you say so," he replied and she rolled her eyes.
They walked in silence until they got to the door of her room and she stopped walking and as if on afterthought Jael also stopped.
She opened the door and turned to look at him but he looked like he was going to follow her in. "Don’t you have to be elsewhere?" She asked with a frown.
"Yeah, but I can be a few minutes late." He muttered and walked in with her. He looked around the room, eying it as if he wasn’t just here a half hour ago.
She paid him no mind and just went to sit on the bed. Jean was supposed to check her arm after the first meal and then she would go to the rooftop.
Jael walked slowly to where she sat and stopped directly in front of her. "I will be busy for most of today," he said.
She nodded, she figured as much. He was away for a while, she was certain there were a lot of things that needed his attention.
"It’s fine, if I need anything, I’ll just ask Mill," she replied with a smile.
He frowned slightly, "That’s fine. However, I will be in the study if you need anything."
"I am sure I won’t need to bother you," Mauve said.
He squinted his eyes and took a step back. "Also, I am sure it goes without saying but you’ll be sleeping in my room from now on."
"Why?"
"Is there something wrong with my room?"
Mauve glared at him with half-opened eyes, somebody needed to tell him it was wrong to answer a question with another question.
"Fine, if that’s what you want. Anything else?" She asked.
"Yes," he said and closed the distance between them.
He pulled her to her feet and kissed her on the lips. He gently coaxed them with his tongue and it roamed the inside of her mouth.
Mauve gripped his shirt as an unrecognizable sound escaped her lips. He broke the kiss and let go of her. Her legs gave out on her and she fell, landing on the bed with her rear.
Mauve was still a little dazed when a knock drew both their attention to the door. "Come in," Jael replied and started walking toward it.
The door opened and Jean walked in with his head bowed. "Your Grace," he said a little too loudly even though Jael was almost in front of him.
"Jean," Mauve called to him and he rushed toward her. Jael left the room with a backward glance.
"Princess," Jean said with a soft bow as he got to where she sat.
