Chapter 202. Her Room
Chapter 202: 202. Her Room
"Where are you going?" He asked with furrowed brows.
"I-I thought you were sleeping," Mauve replied and glanced back to see Jael’s torso partially raised as he glared at her. Was he pretending to sleep as she tried to sneak out?
His frown deepened. "You didn’t answer my question," he muttered with a stern tone to his voice.
"I wanted to go to the rooftop," She explained, looking away from him. Why did he sound so angry? Where else could she possibly go here?
"By yourself?"
"I can get there myself," she said with a scoff and tried to pull away from him. He didn’t have to make her sound useless.
"That’s not what I mean." He sighed. "The door should be locked. How do you plan to open it yourself?
"Um," she pouted. "I didn’t put much thought into it."
Jael glared at her with hooded eyes. "Stay," he said and pulled her toward him. "I will be up in less than two hours, you can see it all you want then. I’ll ask Mack to accompany you."
"I can’t sleep anymore," she cried. She was lying down again with her head on his chest.
"You don’t have to."
Mauve groaned loudly but she didn’t protest as he gently caressed her hair. Even if she did leave, she wouldn’t be able to get to the rooftop without Jael’s permission.
"Did you really intend to go to the rooftop dressed like that?"
Mauve blushed, "I was going to change in my room."
There was no way she would walk around with his oversized shirt. Mauve had brought a nightdress for her but Jael declined. Was she really going to be stuck wearing his shirt? It wasn’t uncomfortable, it was just a little embarrassing.
"Hmm," he said.
Mauve ended up falling asleep and by the time she awoke, she was alone in bed again. She sneered, why did he make her wait if he was just going to leave?
"You’re awake," Jael said.
A sharp scream escaped Mauve’s lips. Her scream pierced through the dark-lit room. Jael paused as he dressed and turned around to look at her.
"Are you okay?"
"I am sorry, I thought I was alone. I was just shocked to hear your voice."
"Hmm," he said and turned away from her.
"Why didn’t you wake me up?" She asked.
He glanced at her but instead of replying to her question, he said, "Mill should return soon. You can choose to have your bath here or your room."
"Um, oh okay. I guess my room is fine." She replied as she slipped out of bed.
"You can wait for her," he said.
"You can wait for her."
"It’s fine, I’ll just wait for her there."
"Whatever you wish. The first meal should be ready in a couple of minutes. I will come to get you by then."
Mauve stopped midway out of the bed. "You don’t have to, I can just find my way there."
"You get ready," he said and turned away from her.
He was annoying. She skipped to the connecting door and opened it. She pulled away from the door and walked to the bed. She took the lamp from the table.
"You don’t need this," she mumbled as she walked away.
"That’s why I said you should wait for Mill."
"It’s fine, really. I can do this myself."
"If you say so," he replied with a scoff.
Mauve rolled her as she walked away. She opened the door one more time while holding the lamp. The room lit up with the lamp. She carefully moved to the windows and pulled the curtains open.
Well, she tried to but they only partially gave way but it was enough light. She placed the lamp on the bedside table and sat on the edge of the bed.
She spun her head as she looked around the room. The room didn’t look that much different from where she left it. Though she was only away for a couple of weeks, it felt like months.
It did look to be in proper shape, there was no sign of dust or cobwebs. Someone must have tended to her room while she was away.
She threw her back on the bed and stared at the ceiling. She couldn’t believe she didn’t even get a chance to check it before now.
The fact that Jael didn’t want to be far from him made her a little worried. She assumed it was because of the trip but now, she wasn’t so sure.
A soft knock drew her attention to the door and she immediately stood to her feet. "Come in."
The words were barely out of her lips when the door flew open and Mill walked on with a bathtub and another servant with a bucket of water.
"Mill," she cried.
"Mauve," the vampire said with a bright smile.
"Did you sleep well?" She asked as she placed the tub on the ground.
"Yeah," she mumbled with a huge smile. "What about you, Mill?"
Mill nodded, "I did."
The servant bowed slightly to Mill before leaving the room. They didn’t even look in her direction. She was used to this.
"Are you ready for your bath?" Mill asked as the door closed.
"Yeah, I heard the first meal is in a few minutes. We need to hurry."
"No, we don’t. We still have at least twenty minutes, that’s more than enough time to get ready and you’ve shown up late several times."
"Doesn’t mean I should be late on purpose."
"I am sure nobody will mind. Let me help you out of your clothes."
Mauve sat in the tub quietly as Mill helped her clean up. The maid washed her hair carefully first before she moved on to the rest of Mauve’s body and then she helped her out of the water.
Mauve sat in front of the dresser with a robe around her body as Mill fiddled with her hair. It took a while to get it dry and Mill ended up wrapping it.
She carefully applied lotion all around Mauve’s body and then walked to the wardrobe. "Do you have any preferences?" She asked.
"Yeah, something that covered my shoulders and all the way to my elbows."
She had chosen this for the last meal but she knew wouldn’t be able to expose her shoulder until they healed and she was worried that even if they did she would probably have to keep them covered. They were pretty obvious.
She looked to her shoulder instinctively even though she was dressed in a bathrobe.
"Are you sure, Mauve?" Mill asked with a puzzled expression. "Wouldn’t it be better to wear something that won’t rub against the surface?"
"I can always change after the first meal," she mumbled.
"Okay," Mill replied and rummaged through the wardrobe. "What about this?" She asked, pulling out a frilly cream dress. "It’s light against the skin and you don’t have to take it off," Mill announced proudly.
"Yes, this is fine."
She walked to where Mill sat and the connecting door was immediately thrown open.
"Jael," Mauve cried.
"Your Grace," Mill said, bowing simultaneously.
"Carry on, you can pretend I am not here."
"Yes, Sire."
Mauve stood to her feet as Mill helped her into the dress even though she had her back to Jael, she could still feel his eyes on her back. How didn’t he know it was rude to stare?
The sleeves of the dress rested on her elbow and Mill was right about it being light on the skin. Her hair was gathered in the middle of her hair while some hung down the sides.
It was just the first meal, Mill didn’t have to dress her up so prettily but Mauve wasn’t complaining. For the past couple of weeks, she had worn nothing but evil dresses.
"All done," Mill announced.
Mauve stood to her feet and spun in front of the mirror. "Thank you, Mill," she said.
"Is that all?" Jael suddenly said and pushed himself off the wall.
Mauve jerked her head in his direction, he had been so quiet she had almost forgotten about him.
"Yes," Mill said with a bow.
With two long strides, he was by her side in an instant. He grabbed her arm and pulled her toward the door.
Mauve let herself get pulled away as she waved at Mill. They walked out of the door and she grabbed the hem of her dress as they got closer to the stairs.
She looked up at Jael to see him staring at her. "What?" She asked, wondering if there was something on her face. She didn’t get a chance to do one last check as someone had pulled her away.
"Nothing, let’s go eat." He said with a gruff voice. "I already told Mack, he will lead you to the rooftop as soon as you’re ready."
"I just need him to open the door, I can find my way there." She pouted.
