Chapter 185. A Human Wall
Chapter 185: 185. A Human Wall
Mauve stomped with purpose to Jael’s room. Her bandages were off and her left hand was feeling much better. She was in a good mood and she was determined to not let anything ruin it, even Jael.
She was not surprised he didn’t come to see her today and frankly, she wasn’t even pissed. However, no matter what his response was she was determined to not give up without a fight.
She spent most of her day sleeping therefore, she was certain she would still be awake by the time he came to the room, even if he decided not to show up until noon, she would be awake waiting for him.
"You look like you’re about to go to war," Mill said with amusement in her voice.
"Don’t say it like that," Mauve replied.
"No, seriously. You do look very determined." Mill held her finger up as she spoke.
"Well, I do intend to not take ’no’ for an answer without an explanation." She knew there was a possibility he would not let her leave here as early as she wanted to but at least she deserved an explanation for that.
"Well, that’s quite the determination," Mill said with an amused expression.
"Why do you look like it’s all for naught?"
"You’re imagining things. Besides, nobody else but you can do this."
Mauve frowned, "What does that even mean?"
"Nothing, get into bed."
Mauve glared at Mill and then slowly retreated to the bed. She climbed onto the bed, using her left hand for support. Her injured hand felt a little weird now that it was unwrapped but she was a little used to the feeling as her hand had been unwrapped for hours now.
She laid on her back and Mill adjusted the pillow. "Is this comfortable?" She asked.
"Yes," Mauve mumbled.
"Well then sleep tight, Mauve."
"Thank you."
At her response, Mill turned away from her. "I will be back in a few hours."
"Mill," Mauve called softly.
"Yes," Mill turned to look at her with a puzzled expression.
"Thank you," she hoped Mill could see how grateful she was.
Instead of saying anything, Mill just waved and continued her walk out of the room. The silence that came as Mill closed the door was almost deafening.
Mauve looked toward the candle, this was going to be a long wait. She wished she at least had something to read but the book was in her room. She smacked her forehead, wondering why she did not think of this before coming here.
She would have to wait, she thought. Unfortunately, now that she put the thought in her head, she could not stop thinking about going to pick up the book.
After what she thought must have been two hours when in real time it was only thirty minutes, she pushed herself out of the bed. She winced a little as a slight pain went up her hand.
It didn’t hurt unbearably but the sudden movement pulled on her skin forcefully, sending pain up her arm. She got out of bed despite this and the pain was quickly forgotten.
Her legs hit the floor and her loose dress fell. She couldn’t wait to get healed. She would finally wear proper clothes and throw these hideous ones away. She was certain Mill was going out of her way to look for the worst dresses possible.
This particular one was gray and it fell all the way to her ankles. She was literally swimming in it. This was definitely one of the reasons she had to return to the castle. Any more evil dresses and she was certain she would lose it.
She picked up the candle and carefully made her way to the door. She turned the handle with her injured arm. The door opened and she stepped out of it only to run into a huge wall.
Mauve screamed as fear squashed her heart. The unexpectancy of it didn’t even give her brain and time to consider that maybe there wasn’t any reason to be scared.
"Where are you going?" Jael asked, he sounded unfazed by her screaming.
"Jael," she cried. "You scared me."
"Where are you going?" He asked sternly. He looked angry.
"I did not know you would come in so early, so I um wanted to pick up something from my room."
"What did you want to pick?"
"A book," she replied.
"Hmm," he said.
She frowned, "What did you think?"
"I will go with you," he said instead and pulled the candle out of her grasp.
Mauve was surprised it didn’t fall out of her hand when she ran into him or worse, burnt him. They were both unscathed.
"No need for that. Now that you are here, I don’t need it."
"Is that so?" He raised a brow.
She nodded, "Where did you think I was going to?" She asked and stood on her toes so she would be closer to his face.
"Your room," he mumbled and stepped closer.
Mauve didn’t budge, "Hmm it doesn’t sound complete."
"I thought you were going to spend the rest of the day in your room."
"Oh," Mauve said and pulled back.
He grabbed her arm and walked into the room pulling her with him. He did not stop tugging until they went to the side of the bed. He placed the candle on the bedside table and Mauve just stood beside him staring at him.
"Do I have to tell you to get into bed?" He asked darkly.
She shook her and moved closer to get into the bed when he carried her. She yelped. "You just told me to get in," she did not bother to hide her annoyance.
"I changed my mind. I see the bandage is off. Does it hurt?"
Mauve shook her head and looked away from his piercing gaze. It didn’t help, she could still feel his eyes on her.
"I see." He carefully placed her on the bed and got in next to her. "What did you do today?"
She turned her head sharply in his direction, "Same old. You would know if you came by to see me." She whispered and turned away from him.
