Chapter 186. Just A Kiss

Chapter 186: 186. Just A Kiss

She turned her head sharply in his direction, "Same old. You would know if you came by to see me." She whispered and turned away from him.

"I was held up," he said, she could feel his eyes on top of her head.

"I am sure," she rolled her eyes, still looking away from him. She hoped he could hear the sarcasm in her voice. She had her back on the bed and her head was turned away from him.

He slipped his hand underneath her body and pulled her closer to him. Mauve did not fight him and allowed herself to be pulled toward him. He pulled her onto his body but she still did not look at him.

"It is the truth," he said firmly.

"Really?" Mauve said, finally turning to look at him. "Are you saying there wasn’t a time you could come to check on me?"

"I did not say that but I wouldn’t have been able to spend more than a few minutes and didn’t want to drop in only to leave immediately after." He explained.

Mauve scoffed and stared at him, she was certain he could see the disbelief in her eyes. He had definitely been avoiding her and the fight they had yesterday wasn’t the only reason why.

"You are not mad?" He asked as his eyes moved around her face.

"I am, of course, I am. You didn’t come to see me twice in a row."

"I don’t mean that," Jael said. His blue eyes hovered on her lips before he raised his gaze to her eyes.

"What do you mean?" Mauve said and lifted herself so she could move closer to his face. She placed her chin on top of her palm as she rested on his chest.

He raised a brow and arched his head to the side. "Don’t worry about it." He lifted his hand and tucked her hair behind her ear.

"I want to," she said and crawled forward, bringing her face even closer to his. "I still want to leave here as soon as I can though," she said and pouted her lips.

Jael’s face immediately fell, "It’s not up for discussion."

His body stiffened underneath hers and Mauve felt her courage falter against the hard look on his face. For a millisecond she thought of hiding her face away from him and forgetting about this.

However, she remembered she had no plans to give up without an explanation. She knew if she backed out now she wouldn’t be able to bring up this subject again.

"Why? You are shutting me down without an explanation." Mauve stuck out her lower lip.

It was a brief moment but she saw Jael’s eyes glance downward before looking up at her eyes. It was a little hard to keep looking into his eyes now that she was this close to him.

Her body was flushed and she could feel the tips of her ears grow warm. She concentrated on the purpose of this, it was the only thing keeping her going but she could feel her courage dwindling.

"Until you are completely healed is enough explanation." His voice lacked intent and she could see his eyes divert from hers more than once.

She was setting bait and she hoped he would take it because if this dragged on any longer, she would run out of the room in tears. This was the most she could do, she did not have the guts to kiss him herself. That would definitely make this much easier.

Surely, she should be able to make a move on him but the fact that she had not done so before, made it so hard. Jael did not look like he was buying what she was selling.

"No, it’s not. I said I can take the journey, I am sure of it. I already feel strong enough and Jean said being in a familiar environment can boost my healing."

Jael blinked, the disbelief was obvious on his face. "Did he really say that?"

"Yes," she said and glanced away from his face.

Suddenly, Mauve felt his hand at the back of her head. She turned her gaze to look at him, she was shocked at the gesture. Before she could ask what was wrong he leaned forward and kissed her squarely on the mouth.

...

Jael could feel his train of thought derailing. He was supposed to be stern about this situation but every time she stuck out her lower lip, all he could think about was imprisoning it between his lips.

It didn’t help that they were just inches away from his face. All he just had to do was lean forward. He did not know if she was doing this on purpose but he was certain he did not want her to stop.

He had been worried for most of the day that she was angry with him and it had made him very grumpy. He hated fighting with her, for some reason it usually put him in a bad mood.

When he had seen her by the door, he had feared the worst but even in his state of anger, all he could think about was pinning her to the wall and ripping the dress off her body.

The fact that she might be bare underneath it, affected him more than he would have thought possible. He couldn’t see even her outline under the dress and somehow he was still very turned on.

He had managed to push all his lewd thoughts to the back of his mind but now that she was staring at him with big brown eyes, Jael could feel his self-control slipping.

He remembered her wound and nearly smacked himself. He knew he would not be subtle, not with how he felt. He knew as soon as he touched her he would not be able to control himself. He did not want to cause her any pain.

"Did he really say that?" He asked, her words sounded unbelievable.

"Yes," she said and looked away.

Jael felt as if someone kicked him in his guts. It was illegal to look this adorable. Just a kiss, he said to himself. He was sure he would be fine with just a kiss.
