The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 179. As You See Fit

Chapter 179: 179. As You See Fit

"True, what if Mauve discloses this to the King herself? Your plan was not exactly very smooth, anyone could tell there was an ulterior motive to your suggestions." Mill said but she was bluffing.

Danag’s plan was pretty obvious but she knew Mauve concentrated more on the words than the intent behind them. So, even if Mauve did notice what Danag was trying to do, she did not pay it any mind as it aligned with her plan of wanting to leave this place.

She didn’t want to admit it but Danag was right, Mauve was indeed the fastest route to get out of here. She knew first hand how important she was to him as

"The princess would not do such and even if by some chance..." Danag paused dramatically, she did not need anyone to tell her he was hinting at her. "The King happens to hear of this, I am ready to bear the consequences. Now, if you would excuse me, I have important matters to attend to."

"Wouldn’t it be defiance to the King if I keep quiet about this?"

He squinted his eyes as he stared hard at her. "Do as you see fit, as I have said I am ready to bear the consequences."

Mill opened her mouth to speak but Danag was already walking down the stairs. She did not stop him, she just stood by the top of the stairs watching the distance between them increase.

She could not understand his desperation enough to use Mauve but considering he had to go this far, Mill can only imagine that it must be quite serious.

Now that she thought about it, she didn’t think she had ever been away from the castle, let alone for this long. Maybe that’s why she wasn’t in so much of a hurry to return.

The castle was all she knew, she had been there for as long as she could remember. She didn’t have any memories that didn’t include it.

She had no intention to tell his Grace. There wasn’t any need to, Danag was not the type to put Mauve in any kind of danger, let alone for a selfish reason.

However, she was worried about coming under fire should his grace find out about this. If it ended badly, she knew Danag would not be the only one on the receiving end of the King’s anger.

After a few seconds had passed she headed down the stairs, taking it one at a time, she made her way to the Kitchen. The kitchen was bustling with servants. This was expected as the first meal just ended.

She returned to the bedroom to see Mauve was already fast asleep. She wasn’t surprised, the herbs tended to make her sleepy. She slipped out without making any noise and quietly closed the door.

...

Mauve made her way to Jael’s bedroom with Mill by her side. She did not have the energy to argue with Mill as her mind was preoccupied with how she would bring up the topic with Jael.

She knew this was something she would have to tell him herself and if she didn’t she would end up staying here longer than she wanted to.

She didn’t see him throughout today, he must be quite busy. Usually, he stopped by to check on her, at least once a day. However, he didn’t tonight.

Mill turned the handle as one of her hands held the candlelight. Mauve walked in and remembered dropping the candlelight the last time she was here, she didn’t know what happened to it but she was certain it wasn’t on the ground when she had woken up. She wondered if Jael or a servant picked it up.

Mill led the way, holding the light. It didn’t make a significant difference in the dark room but at least it was enough for Mauve to see where she was going without bumping into anything.

Mill dropped the light by the bedside table as Mauve got into bed. The bandage was still around her arm, Jean has decided to leave it on for the night, in case she rolled around in her sleep.

She didn’t see the need to be worried, it wasn’t like she moved around much in her sleep. More like, she couldn’t because most of the time she was asleep her movement was restricted.

"Would you like me to stay with you until Sire returns?" Mill offered.

"Huh?" Mauve said as she tried to process Mill’s words, she had been distracted with her thoughts. "Oh, no. Thank you but there is no need for that. I will be fine on my own."

Mill nodded and started to walk away but then she stopped and turned around. "Do you really intend to speak to his grace about leaving here?"

"Yes, now that I know I can leave so soon, I will," Mauve responded with a twinkle in her eyes.

"Aren’t you scared that you’ll get attacked again?"

Mauve froze and fear passed briefly across her face. She looked away from Mill and gently rubbed her injured shoulder.

"I’ll be lying if I say I am not but I can’t stay here forever." Her voice shook as she spoke. "I would have to leave at some point and I fear that if I take too long, I will get scared and I won’t be able to leave. So, now that I am still strong-willed and daring, I should get it out of the way before I lose courage. After all, I’ve always been a scaredy cat."

She turned to look at the vampire when she didn’t say anything. "Do you get what I mean?" She asked with a dry laugh.

Mill shook her head, "I don’t think you lack courage."

"But you wouldn’t say I am the most courageous, right?" Mauve said with an awkward laugh. "I am scared of most things and I can’t protect myself in any way."

"Don’t speak about yourself in such a manner," Mill said sternly. Her voice echoed in the dark room and Mauve jerked.
