The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 178. Mill’s Objection

Chapter 178: 178. Mill’s Objection

"Wouldn’t it be best if she waited until you are sure there wouldn’t be any kind of tear before she traveled back to the castle? Wouldn’t that be advisable?"

Mill felt a glare on her neck as she asked this question. She did not know what Danag was planning but there was no way she would stand by and watch anything that might be detrimental to Mauve’s health.

"Yes," Jean said, dragging out his words. "However, unless something excessive happens, her injury should not worsen simply from moving around."

"Does Jael know this?" Mauve asked. Mill could see that she was brimming with excitement.

"I did not see the need to inform him of this before now," Jean responded, his eyes briefly glancing toward Danag. Mill did not miss this.

"When would you like to leave, Princess?" Danag asked harmlessly.

"Soonest," Mauve responded.

"Perhaps, you would let the Sire know when you would like to leave. I am sure he will make preparations to suit your wishes."

Mauve’s face fell, "I am not sure about that. He sounds like he is busy around here, I don’t want to impose."

"Busy?" Danag frowned. "I assure you, his grace is only here because you are."

Mill saw Mauve visibly freeze and she nearly smacked Danag in the back of his head. What was the guard’s plan? She had to put an end to this quickly.

"First," she loudly said. "Let me clean this up and let Mauve rest up, she just barely finished her meal before you walked in."

Actually, they did not but knowing Mauve her appetite was already ruined and she might not eat the rest of the food. Mill was desperately counting on that. She needed to have a conversation with Danag and if Mauve decided to finish the rest of the meal, she might not be able to do that

"Or would you like to keep eating?" Mill asked, she nearly bit off the inside of her cheeks as she waited for Mauve’s response.

"No," she said softly. Mill thought she suddenly looked tired.

"I guess this is my cue to leave. I do wish you a speedy recovery," Danag said with a soft nod.

"Thank you, Danag. It is great to see you again." She was smiling again but it didn’t have the earlier glow.

"I will try to check on you more often."

"No, you don’t have to. You don’t need to go out of your way. I will be out of this room before you know it," she said with a stiff smile.

"I will be out then, take care of yourself, princess," Danag said and turned towards the door.

"I will," she replied.

"I will take care of the dishes," Mill said hurriedly and picked up the tray. "I will be right back. Would you like me to bring you anything from the kitchen?"

"No," Mauve waved her off and looked away.

Mill wanted to say something but she did not know what she could say in this situation neither did she have the time to come up with some. "Okay," she rapidly said and turned away from Mauve.

She rushed after Danag and closed the door behind her. By the time she got out the guard was almost at the stairs. "Danag!" She called loudly. A little too loudly. She hushed herself immediately before she attracted any unnecessary attention.

At first, she thought he would not respond to her call but he stopped and turned his head over his shoulder to look at her.

"Mill, is anything the matter? Is the Princess okay?" He asked informally.

Mill felt all the blood flow to her head and she stomped toward him. "What was the meaning of that?" She heard herself say before she could stop herself. His attitude was pissing her off.

"Whatever do you mean?" He asked, turning his entire body to look at her. "Care to elaborate, Mill?"

She stopped directly in front of him, the tray she held was the exact distance between them. "Don’t play dumb with me, Danag. It won’t help your case."

"Is that a threat, Mill?" He asked menacingly, his eyes staring down at her. Now that she was this close, she could see the significant difference in their heights.

Mill shrank, instinctively taking a step back. "You know it is not, I am only curious to know what this is about. This is so out of the box and playing with Mauve’s emotion like that, that was cruel of you."

"Ugh, I know," Danag said and squeezed the balls of his eyes. For a brief second Mill could see how exhausted he was. "However, I am at my wit’s end here and his grace will not listen to me." He brought down his hand from his face.

"So, you plan to use Mauve," Mill said darkly. The contempt on her face was glaring.

"I am not doing this because I enjoy it, I am out of options here. This is the only effective method left. I am not exactly doing this with a bright smile on my face but his grace needs to return to the castle."

"Even at the detriment of Mauve’s health."

"I would never put her at risk like that. The physician said she would be fine." He stared hard at her as he spoke, his eyes saying he could not believe that she would think something like that of him.

"He sounded unsure," Mill protested.

"Are you sure that’s not just what you wanted to hear?"

"What would happen if his grace got wind of this?"

"He won’t."

"Don’t be so sure," she replied.

"Why? You intend to telltale to his grace?"

"That does not benefit me in any way and stop thinking in that direction, it pisses me off."

"Well, this is the second time you have suggested such and it is a risky card I am playing, I can’t afford to take any chances here."

"True, what if Mauve discloses this to the King herself?"
