Chapter 170: 170. Removal (Part 2)

"Does it hurt that badly?" He asked when he got close enough.

Mauve nodded while looking up at him. She tried not to make a sound as Jean cleaned the surface of her wounds but the fact that Jael was sitting next to her made it so much easier to make a fuss.

He grabbed her injured hand and squeezed her palm. Mauve felt warm all the way to her stomach and the stinginess of her wounds was partly forgotten.

Also, it felt a little embarrassing to scream while he was next to her. Even though it was nice to see him worry and fuss over her, she knew she couldn’t encourage him to baby her as it would only get worse.

Thankfully, Jean moved quickly. After wiping her wounds dry, he securely wrapped her arm all the way to her shoulder, covering her wounds so that not even a tiny part peeked out.

"I’ll change this at the same time tomorrow so please try not to get it wet," he looked at Mill as he spoke.

Mill nodded as she started from the foot of the bed, she had moved away when Jael approached the bed. In an attempt not to crowd either the physician or Mauve, she didn’t move any closer after Jael got in bed with Mauve.

"Is that all?" Mauve asked, staring at her arm and then at the physician.

He nodded and took a step backward, bowing slightly. Mauve knew he wasn’t bowing to her.

"Thank you," Mauve said as she examined his work.

"It’s my job," he said sheepishly.

She rested her head on Jael’s shoulder, feeling tired. A soft knock caused Mauve to jerk slightly. Mauve opened the door and Kieran walked in.

"What have we here?" He said as he walked in.

His lanky frame slipped through the open door and he shut it behind him. He had a coat on and his hands were in the pockets of the coat. Mauve frowned slightly, he couldn’t have been indoors with a coat on.

His dark blond hair stood a little high atop his head. His gaze was piercing in the low-lit room but somehow it wasn’t threatening. The calm air around him was soothing.

"Lord Kieran," Jean said with a soft bow, he didn’t seem agitated in Kieran’s presence. Mill merely nodded at him.

"Lord Kieran," Mauve said with a bright smile.

"Mauve," he said, making eye contact with her. His gaze moved and rested on Jael. "Sire," he said stiffly. "I didn’t expect you to be here. I have been looking all over for you."

"Is that so?" Jael said with a shrug. "Is something wrong?"

"No, however, you did say you’ll be back in ten minutes. It has been almost an hour."

"Ah," Jael said, nodding. "I didn’t realize the time."

"I can see that," Kieran said. "By the way, it’s time for the second meal."

"I’ll have mine here," Jael said immediately.

"As you wish," Kieran replied. "I will ask a servant to bring up your meal."

Kieran still looked puzzled and it was obvious he was trying to figure out what was going on. He noticed Mauve wrapped shoulder and frowned.

"You covered the wound again, Jean? Did something happen?"

"No, I removed..."

"The stitches," Kieran completed as his eyes rested on the table where pieces of the strings lay.

Jean nodded in response.

"I will let you finish up and Sire," he said, making eye contact with Jael. "Please join us after the second meal."

"Is it necessary?" Jael asked with a straight face.

"It is," Kieran said stiffly.

Mauve thought he looked slightly exhausted. It didn’t show on his pale face, it was more his demeanor. She wondered whether it was from dealing with Jael.

"Okay," Jael replied. "Is Danag back?"

"No, not yet," Kieran said as turned around. He opened the door and walked out. "I will let you know as soon as he is." With that, he closed the door shut.

Mauve turned to look at Jael, she wanted to ask where Danag had gone but decided against it. He would most likely tell her something vague.

As the door closed, Mill moved immediately. "Would you like to eat anything specific?" She asked Mauve as she stood beside the bed.

"No," Mauve shook her head. "I am fine with anything." She smiled up at Mill.

"Alright," Mill responded.

She bent forward and cleaned the table before she picked up the bowl of water. With the towel over her shoulder, she walked to the door holding the bowl.

Jean picked the other bowl and walked after Mill. The door shut and Mauve rested her shoulder on Jael again.

"Tired?" He asked and ran his fingers through her hair.

She nodded and started to slide downwards until she rested her head on his legs. She rubbed her head and tried to squeeze closer to him. She thought she felt him stiffen.

"Does your arm hurt?"

"Not really, unless I touch it," she didn’t think it was important to mention the occasional slight stings since they didn’t hurt that much.

"Be careful not to," he said. His words sounded muffled.

"I will be careful," she looked up at him and his blue eyes glowed slightly as he looked down at her. His fangs looked longer, she wondered if it was because she was looking up at him and had a clearer view.

He stretched out his hand to touch her cheeks. Mauve felt warm and cold as his hand touched her cheek. She couldn’t look away from his eyes as she stared up at him.

A soft knock broke the trance and Mill walked in with a large tray, another servant walk in behind her, holding more food.

Mauve tried to sit up and Jael helped her. Even if she wasn’t eating alone, this was a little too much. She stared wide-eyed at the food that Mill placed on the table.

She moved the table closer and said, "Are you ready to eat, Mauve?" She asked.

"You can leave Mill, I will take it from here."

"Oh," Mill responded. "Of course, please call for me if you need anything."
