Chapter 161. Nothing Could Beat
Chapter 161: 161. Nothing Could Beat
Jael frowned at her, "I don’t think that’s advisable, Mauve. You’re still badly injured."
"I know," she said with color on her cheeks. "But I have taken all my herbs for today and I am just supposed to sleep."
There was no way she was going to be alone all day. Mill was sleeping and the physician was not good company. Besides, she was sure nothing could beat lying in Jael’s arms all day.
"Still, it would be best if the physician was with you so he will attend to you immediately if something is wrong." He said staring at her.
Mauve blinked under his gaze. His tone didn’t leave any room for argument. "Would you come to see me?" She asked and looked away from him.
"Of course," he said and ruffled her hair.
She grinned and nodded. "Okay but let me stay here for a couple of minutes. I don’t have to leave immediately, right?"
Jael peered at her face. "I guess not." He said and adjusted so he had his back to the headboard once again and she was comfortable on his legs.
"Doesn’t my weight bother you? Surely, it must be uncomfortable to carry me in your legs for this long." She asked and played with his shirt.
"Are you mocking me?" He asked sternly.
She shook her head, "No, I am not." She giggled, she shouldn’t be this happy. It didn’t make any sense. "You should get some sleep," she said, peeking up at him.
He looked down at her, "I should be telling you that. I am not the one who needs rest."
She stuck out her lower lip. "All, I have done for the past couple of days is rest."
"Because you need..."
Loud banging threw both their attention to the door, Mauve jerked at the unexpected loud sound. Before Jael can respond to the loud knocking, the door flew open and Mill walked in with her head bent.
She looked agitated and Mauve could immediately tell that something was wrong. It did not take her a lot of thinking to figure out that it had to do with her.
"I am so sorry to be a bother, Sire but I can’t find MAUVE!" Mill’s eyes widened as she noticed Mauve in Jael’s arms.
Mauve smiled and waved at her. Mill looked like she had flown out of bed, picked the first thing she had placed her hand on and had flown out of her room.
"What are you doing here?" She said and walked forward. The relief in her voice was obvious.
"I came to see Jael," She whispered and kept her head bent. She felt a little embarrassed. Technically, she had sneaked out and obviously caused trouble for Mill.
"You left the room," she looked exasperated. "I was worried sick. The physician told me he woke up and couldn’t find you and I couldn’t find Damon either. I just thought the worst happened. Did Damon know you left?" Mill asked.
Mauve nodded, "He brought me here."
She mumbled incoherent words under her breath. "He could have at least told me," she said this part loud enough for Mauve to hear.
"I think he didn’t want to bother you since you were asleep."
Mill bent her head lower, "I apologize for the intrusion, Sire. This is my fault, if I had watched her properly I would have noticed her absence on time."
"It is fine," Jael said with no anger in his voice.
"Thank you, Sire," Mill said with a lighter tone to her voice. "I will take her away now."
"I am fine here," Mauve said immediately and her fingers around Jael’s shirt tightened.
Mill looked at Jael as if expecting him to say something but he didn’t. "Mauve," Mill said softly. "It’s best you stay in bed."
"I am in bed," she cried.
"Where is the physician?" Jael suddenly asked.
Mill looked away from Mauve to Jael. "He is right outside," he replied.
Jael stared piercingly at her. "Then call him in." He said darkly.
"Of course," Mauve said and rushed toward the door.
Mauve looked up at him as the door closed. "Are you sure I can’t stay here?" She stuck her lower lips out and made her eyes bigger.
"You shouldn’t. We don’t want to make your arm worse."
"It doesn’t hurt, I promise." She said.
The door opened and Mill walked in with the physician by her side. He looked smaller as he walked in and he kept his head constantly looking down.
"Sire, I have brought him," Mill announced and closed the door behind her. The physician bowed but didn’t say anything. Even Mauve could see he was anxious.
"Come closer," Jael said and Mill had to push him to get Jean moving.
"Your grace," he said with his head bent.
"Can she stay here for the day?" Jael asked sternly.
Mauve jerked her head up to look at Jael but he refused to meet her gaze. She looked down with a smile plastered across her face, she couldn’t stop smiling even if she wanted to.
"Y-yes," Jean said. "I don’t have to change the bandage until evening and since she takes her herbs in the nighttime, there is no need for that in the day. As long as she doesn’t move her arm so much, she should be fine."
Mauve resisted the urge to scream excitedly as she listened to Jean’s words. The physician still had his head bent even as he spoke.
She would have hugged him if she could move around the way she wanted. Okay, maybe not a hug but a little handshake. She looked up at Jael with a beaming smile but he still didn’t look at her.
"Mill," Jael called. "You may return to your chamber. I will call you if anything is amiss. You’re both dismissed."
They simultaneously bowed and Mill said. "Okay, Sire. Get some rest, Mauve."
"Thank you, Mill." She said with a grin.
The vampire smiled lightly at her before walking to the door. Mauve watched both of them leave the room. Mill gave her one last look before she closed the door.
