Chapter 162: 162. Happy Now (VS)
"Happy now?" Jael asked with a raised brow.
Mauve nodded energetically. All her worries were forgotten.
"Don’t move so much," he scolded. "Okay," she mumbled and immediately stiffened her body.
He visibly shook his head and then proceeded to gently lift her. He placed her on the bed right next to him. He made sure she was comfortable before he slid down and laid his head on the pillow.
Mauve squinted at the enormous space between them and scooted closer to him. He turned to look at her as she wiggled to him like a fish.
"Didn’t I say you shouldn’t move around so much?"
She didn’t reply, she just placed her head on his chest and sighed.
"Fine, get some sleep." He whispered and kissed the top of her head.
Mauve nodded but she knew she was not going to get any sleep. Not with the way her heart felt as if it would burst any minute.
"Stop fussing!" Jael scolded as he placed his hand on her back. "Try not to move so much." He sounded more concerned than angry.
Mauve nodded and tried to stay as still as she could possibly stay. It wasn’t easy considering how giddy she was but she managed to stay still but her heart was still beating just as loudly.
"Are you comfortable?" He asked.
"Yes," she whispered.
"If your arm hurts, let me know."
She nodded, "I am fine. Don’t worry so much."
She wiggled her head on his chest and closed her eyes. After a couple of minutes of silence, Mauve felt herself slowly start to drift away and she was asleep before she could fight it.
Suddenly, her eyes flew open. The candle was still lit but it was obvious that she had been asleep for a while. By the feeling in her arm, pain woke her up.
It wasn’t anything excessive, it was just the occasional sharp jab she got. It faded immediately but the pain was sudden enough to wake her up.
She turned her head so she could see Jael’s face. He looked so peaceful asleep, she couldn’t help the smile that appeared on her face as she stared at him.
Suddenly, his eyes flew open, and bright blue pupils stared at her. Mauve yelped. His eyes turned to slits.
"You scared me," she said and brought her face down.
"I think that’s my line." He said to her.
"Did I wake you?" She asked.
"Well, your heart rate spiked suddenly so it’s not your fault. Are you okay? Did you have a nightmare?" He asked.
She raised her head and looked at him, she placed her chin against his chest for support. She shook her head. "My arm just hurts a little," she mumbled.
Jael rubbed her back. "Would you like me to call the physician?"
Mauve shook her head, giggling at his concern. "No, it happens sometimes."
His expression soured, "I see," he said and looked away.
"However," she suddenly said in an attempt to brighten the mood. "It doesn’t hurt anymore and I’m fine because I know you’re not angry with me again."
"I was never angry with you," he said and poked her nose. "Get some sleep."
She stuck out her lower lip, "I am not sleepy."
"Well, I am." He blurted.
The silence dragged and Mauve saw the hesitation in his eyes before he leaned forward and kissed her square on the lips. Mauve was a bit stunned and could react before he pulled away.
"Get some sleep." He said while staring hard at Mauve. His eyes glowed a little in the low-lit room.
She nodded obediently and placed her head back on his chest. Her cheeks were flushed. She also knew her heart was beating fast. As anxious as she felt she couldn’t help the smile on her lips. She just tightly closed her eyes and hoped she would fall asleep again.
Mauve felt someone lift her off the bed and opened her eyes to see herself in Jael’s arms. She blinked rapidly as she slowly woke up.
"I am taking you back to your room," he said and smiled softly at her.
She yawned and subtly nodded. "Can I come back after sunset?" She asked with a sleepy tone to her voice.
He stared hard at her, his gaze suddenly intense. Mauve thought his eyes looked less dark.
"Or not?" She mumbled and looked away.
"Sure," he said and opened the door.
"Really?" She squealed.
"Don’t move so much." He scolded, glaring at her.
She nodded, "Sorry," she whispered and sank deeper into his arms.
He walked out of the door, just in time to see Mill walking toward Jael’s room. She hurried up to them.
"Sire," she said and bowed. Jael simply nodded.
"Mill," Mauve said with a big smile.
"Did you rest well?" Mill asked as she raised her head to stare at her.
Mauve nodded.
"I can take her, Sire," Mill said and stretched out her hand.
"It’s fine," Jael said and pulled Mauve back, out of Mill’s reach. "Lead the way," he ordered.
Mauve suddenly felt embarrassed but she knew there was no way she could convince Jael to let her walk. Even when she wasn’t injured he would insist on carrying her. She could only imagine his reaction if she dared suggest such now.
"Yes, Sire," Mill replied and walked in front of them.
Mill stopped in front of the door, opened it, and held it open for Jael to walk through. The physician looked astonished to see Jael walk through the door and for a full second, he didn’t know how to react.
Jael completely ignored him, he walked past him and placed Mauve on the bed. Only then did Jean recover.
"Y-your Grace," he stuttered.
He put her in a sitting position on the bed. He arranged the sheets so they would cover her legs.
"Thank you," she mumbled shyly.
He leaned forward, close enough that their nose almost touched. Mauve immediately looked down. He raised her chin up so she was forced to look him in the eye.
