The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 160. Conciliation

Chapter 160: 160. Conciliation

Jael held Mauve in his arms as she cried. She clung to his chest as she sobbed, her shoulders going up and down. He rubbed her hair, trying to calm her down. This was difficult, he pulled his head back and pinched the bridge of his nose.

He had assumed she wouldn’t want to see him and it was more for him than to try to get to her. He had expected her to be angry at him after he brought her on the trip to Lord Levaton’s castle and she almost die.

She wouldn’t even be in the vampire region if it weren’t for him. He didn’t want to face the backlash and had run like a little kid. The fact that she was crying completely misunderstanding the situation, tore at him.

Her shoulders stopped shaking and he adjusted her in his legs so she was comfortable. "I am not sending you back, okay?"

She pulled backwards and looked up at him with tears in her eyes and a mess around her nose. He was sure there was some on his shirt but he didn’t particularly care.

He wiped her eyes. She must be out of her mind to think that he would let her go. He was just worried that she would want to leave instead. It wasn’t safe here and it was obvious he couldn’t guarantee her safety.

Seeing her all bloodied and at death’s door had not only scared him shitless but had broken him. He didn’t know what he would have done if she didn’t survive.

"Then why didn’t you come to see me then?" She asked, wiping her face.

Jael looked away, he was a little embarrassed. He ran his hands through his hair. He blew air out of his lips and looked at her. She was peering at him with big red eyes as she waited for his response.

"I thought you’d hate to see me because it’s my fault you got injured."

Now, that he was saying it out, it sounded like a stupid reason to not go see her. Even though she might hate him it was a little overboard to not check on her.

However, he knew he wouldn’t have been able to handle her outburst and he had completely avoided the situation as it was much easier.

Mauve looked stunned and for a couple of seconds, she looked like she did not understand what he had just said to her. She blinked and he could see her think.

She frowned, "But if it wasn’t for you I could have died."

"Well, you wouldn’t have been in the situation in the first place if it wasn’t for me." He said and poked her forehead. The intensity of her stare and her genuine confusion made him uneasy.

"Aw," she said and grabbed her forehead. "Well, you didn’t know a Paler was going to attack and you brought a physician all the way here to treat me." She looked a little sad as she said this and he wondered what she was thinking about.

"Mill told me that you were also badly injured while bringing me here so, I thought you were avoiding me because of the trouble I put you through, and as soon as I am better you’ll send me back home." She continued, her eyes looking downwards as she said the rest of the words.

Jael’s eyes darkened a little as he remembered the letter. There was no way he would send her to a place like that. He had expected her to be the one to want to leave, to go back home to a place where she could walk around in the daylight and not get attacked by Palers at night.

Jael squinted his eyes at her. "How did you get to that conclusion? I am not sending you off to anywhere, okay?" He rested his forehead on hers and she blushed.

She nodded, "And I don’t hate you," she said and adjusted so her face could rest on his chest. "I could never hate you. Thank you."

Jael froze for a bit. Her words felt like someone drove a knife into his heart and he had to blink rapidly to spread out the effect. What was this feeling?

...

Mauve felt warm as she lay in Jael’s arms. Now, that the misunderstanding had been cleared she couldn’t contain how happy she was. She smiled to herself and clung closer to him.

"How’s your injury?" She mumbled into his chest.

"I should be asking you that." He replied and rested his palm on her head.

"I was also worried you had not healed from an injury and Mill was lying to me." She remembered how long it had taken Danag, Damon, and Erick to heal after bringing her to Jael’s castle and she had thought it was a similar situation.

"I am a vampire," he said casually. "I can pretty much heal from anything in a day except the injury is from sunlight. That usually takes longer to heal so, don’t worry about me. I am fine."

"I’ll worry," she pouted and he chuckled.

"You’ve lost weight," he said instead.

Mauve nodded, she did feel lighter. "You haven’t been sleeping." She replied.

"Huh? You can tell?" He asked, he sounded surprised.

She nodded, "Under your eyes look darker than usual."

"Are you saying I have dark under eyes normally?" He asked with amusement in his voice.

"No," she yelled and looked up at him to see him smirking.

She glared at him but there was no anger in her expression. She rested her head against his chest and squeezed into him.

"You should go back to your room and get some rest. I will take you there." He said and started to stand up.

"No!" Mauve cried in horror. "I want to stay here."

Jael frowned at her, "I don’t think that’s advisable, Mauve. You’re still badly injured."

Mauve blushed as he called her name. She has not heard him say her name in a while. She couldn’t comprehend why that made her happy even though he was scolding her.
