The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 159. Cast Aside

Chapter 159: 159. Cast Aside

Jael rolled in bed as he tried to get some sleep. The room was dark but it still didn’t help. He would rather be in the basement with Kieran trying to figure out the Paler they had caught but he couldn’t do that.

Kieran had called it a night and said something about going to sleep. Jael couldn’t force it and he could see how tired Kieran was. The vampire has encouraged him to get some sleep but he had known he wouldn’t be able to. So, here he was rolling around like a child but there was still no sign of sleep.

He had not been able to sleep more than two hours a day since he got into the Xanthus estate and the chronic headache was a constant reminder. He winced and rolled again lying on his back.

His eyes were closed as he hoped he would fall asleep soon enough he remained unmoving in this position. Suddenly, he shot upright, his eyes flying open.

Was he daydreaming? Because he could swear that Mauve was outside his door. He frowned and grabbed his head. Was he officially losing it?

She wasn’t alone, Damon was with her. He wasn’t imagining it. Jael was out of the bed before he completed the thought to go out.

If Damon was with her, he could not believe the guard would let her get out of bed. Something was definitely wrong. He pulled open the door and walked out.

He saw her immediately, her small frame looked even smaller. She looked like she would fall any moment as she stood close to the wall.

Jael felt something in him snapped. Why was she out of bed? He was so angry, he could hear ringing in his head.

He was in front of her in seconds, "What is the meaning of this, Damon?" He yelled glaring at Damon. The guard better has a proper explanation for this.

He noticed she jerked at his voice. He could smell a bit of fear and it tore at him. He knew he couldn’t look at her. It was his fault that she was in such a poor state and to think Damon would bring her like this. What was the Vampire thinking?

"She wanted to, Sire," Damon said with his head bent.

"What do you mean she wanted to? She can barely walk." Jael couldn’t believe his ears.

From the corner of his eyes, Jael saw her walk forward and fall against him. He opened his mouth to scold her to be careful when he smelt years and her shoulders shook against his arms.

"Leave us," he said to Damon as he picked up in his arms.

She felt lighter, way lighter than normal. She did look like she had lost weight but he didn’t expect this much. She nestled in his arms and her warmth cascaded all over his body. He felt it to the tip of his fingers.

Her injured hand lay awkwardly on her body. Jael could tell it was painful. He could smell the healing process and something else that he assumed was herbs the physician used.

"Yes, Sire," Damon said, turned in his heel, and left.

He looked at her as she was folded in his arms. He can smell her tears, they haven’t stopped flowing. Jael pulled her closer to him, he just want to wipe her face clean.

...

Mauve could only cling to Jael as he walked to his room with her in his arms. She was still crying, she didn’t know how to stop the waterworks.

He opened the door and walked in, the first thing she noticed was how dark the room was. She couldn’t see anything. She blinked rapidly, hoping her eyes would adapt but it didn’t make any difference.

He was walking but she could not tell in what direction they were moving. Only the movement of his hands told her he was walking. She heard the sound of sheets and he dropped into the bed with her in his arms.

He adjusted her so she was lying on him while he sat on the bed. She heard rustling and a candle was turned on. He didn’t say anything, just held her as she cried.

Her shoulders stopped shaking and her sobbing seized, he raised her chin so she would look at him. His blue eyes locked with hers and Mauve felt warm under his gaze but fear immediately gripped her heart.

"Are you going to send me away?" She asked and bent her head. She brought her fingers to her face. Why was she crying again?

"Huh?" He said and raised her chin, so she was looking at him again but she closed her eyes, she wasn’t sure she wanted to see what was in them

"What gave you that idea?"

Mauve shook her head. "Because I’ve caused you nothing but trouble. That’s why you’re avoiding me." She said and rested against his chest.

"Look at me," he said and raised her face.

She slowly opened her eyes to see him staring at her like he couldn’t believe she had thought of something so insane. Jael sighed loudly, "I am not avoiding you."

Mauve pulled her head from his grasp. That was a blatant lie. If he wasn’t avoiding her he would have come to see her. It was annoying that his words didn’t match his actions.

"Then why didn’t you come to see me and when Damon brought me here you yelled at him and wouldn’t look at me..." The words were barely out of her mouth when she burst into tears.

Something must be wrong with her. She was willing to blame it on her injured arm. However, the thought that she might be cast aside again broke her more than she could control it.

She couldn’t go back to where she wasn’t wanted but she knew that if Jael didn’t want her here again, there was no way she would stay here, and the thought of leaving terrified her.
