The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 157. A Minute
Chapter 157: 157. A Minute
Mauve opened her eyes to a somewhat bright room. The candles were turned off and the curtains were open. She could see it was almost sunrise.
The physician was asleep on the floor a couple of feet away from her. Nothing else was out of place. She didn’t even realize what she was doing until she got out of bed.
She landed without incident, she staggered s little but she quickly held the edge of the end for support. She winced as her right arm dragged down, the stitches stung a little.
She supported it with her other hand, holding it by the elbow. She took a step forward and was a little surprised when she didn’t fall forward. She didn’t feel particularly weak either but she knew there was no way she would be able to walk around.
She got in front of the door and frowned when she realized she would have to open the door by herself. She winced as she slowly let go of her hand.
Suddenly the door flew open and Mill appeared on the other side, the door missed her by an inch else she would have gone flying to the other side.
"Mauve," Mill screamed. The look of horror on her face was enough for Mauve to realize what would have happened had this gone wrongly.
"What are you doing out of bed?" The vampire asked with a panicked voice. "I could have hit you," she rushed forward, fussing over Mauve.
"Sorry, I just got tired of staying in bed." Mauve apologized looking down at her feet.
"I don’t think you should be moving around just yet." She grabbed Mauve by her injured shoulder.
"I was just going to walk around for a bit." She mumbled, still looking down.
Mill squinted her eyes at her. "I don’t think you should be doing that, you’ve barely been awake for long."
"I am fine, I am not as tired as I was."
"Still," Mill said and slowly turned her around, leading her back to the bed. "You shouldn’t move around so much until your arm is healed. The wound was pretty deep, according to Kieran and the physician said the same thing. Please, call me if you need anything. I will get it for."
Mauve could only nod as Mill covered her body with the sheet. She was sitting upright and her arm rested carefully on her side.
"Would you like to eat now?"
Mauve simply nodded, she wasn’t hungry but considering the last time she ate was during the second meal. She knew she would have to eat soon.
She carefully rubbed her right shoulder as Mill checked to make sure nothing was amiss. Mill looked like she had not recovered from the incident of almost flinging Mauve with the door.
Mauve rubbed her arm a little forceful but she was careful not to hurt herself. She wasn’t sure she could take any more pain. However, it felt a bit itchy and though it wasn’t bothersome, it was hard to ignore the itchiness.
"I will be right back," Mill said and took a step back. She took one last stern look at Mauve before she walked to the door. "Please, don’t leave the bed."
She closed the door with a soft thud and Mauve sighed, she didn’t want to trouble anyone but at this point, she was getting irritated. If he was going to get rid of her, the least he could do was show her his face.
Avoiding her was just ridiculous. It didn’t make any sense and she was annoyed that she couldn’t figure it out. If she did something wrong, she would like to know and fix it if that was possible.
She turned to look at the physician who was still sleeping even with the noise she and Mill had made. She couldn’t fault him. She was sure he had not been able to get any proper rest since he came in.
The door opened and Mill walked in with a tray. "The last meal has been over for a while, so I had to make something."
"You didn’t have to," Mauve said immediately.
Mill shrugged. "It wasn’t difficult," she explained. "I used some of the leftovers so it didn’t take that long."
Mauve frowned, "Did you use the herbs?"
Mill’s face fell "But the chicken is herb free." She announced, her face brightening up to match her voice.
She lit some candles and walked over to the window to close it. The day was already bright enough, any minute now and the sun would be shining through the window.
"Okay," Mauve said as she waited for Mill to feed her.
Her hands were practically useless. Since her dominant hand was out of commission and she couldn’t even really lift things with her left hand, to do something as delicate as feeding herself without spilling would be difficult.
"What about Jael?" Mauve asked. She was studying Mill’s face to see her reaction. "Have you seen him?" She asked casually.
Mill shook her head frantically, "I will ask Kieran." She mumbled. "Would you like your chicken now?" She said with a fake smile as she quickly changed the subject.
"Do you know why he is avoiding me?" She asked with a sad look on her face.
Mill’s shoulders fell, "I wouldn’t go as far as to say he is avoiding you. It’s just a tough period with the Palers attack and trying to figure out a way to prevent this from happening again. I am sure he will come see you once he isn’t as busy again."
Mauve was unimpressed with her response but she could literally see the vampire scrambling for words so she didn’t pester.
"Thank you, Mill. I will take the chicken after the herbs."
Even though the herbs were bearable this time and she didn’t have the incessant urge to throw up after drinking, Mauve still preferred it wasn’t the last thing she ate.
Mill left with the dishes and returned a few moments later. She sat from Mauve and stared hard at her.
"You don’t have to watch me, you should get some sleep too. I am fine and I’ll probably fall asleep myself."
Mill frowned, "Are you sure? I don’t mind, I can sleep on the couch last time."
Mauve squinted her eyes at her. "I’d prefer it if you go get some sleep. Besides, Jean is here. Since it’s daytime he should wake up soon. I’ll probably fall asleep soon enough."
Mill looked like she was about to argue but Mauve could see the tiredness in her eyes even if she didn’t have an ulterior motive she would have still insisted that Mill get some sleep.
"Call me if you need anything, okay?" She said,
Mauve nodded with a soft smile and watched Mill leave the room. The vampire gave her one last look before she left the room. Mauve’s eyes darted around as the door closed.
Jean was still asleep and by the look of things, he might be asleep for a while. Mauve wasn’t sure of the layout of the building but she was hoping she wouldn’t have to go far to find Jael.
She gave it a few minutes, just in case Mill was still around. She knew this was probably a bad idea and Jael might end up being mad at her for leaving the room before she was fully healed but the fact that she has not seen him at all was a pain.
She pulled back the sheets and slid off the bed. She landed louder than she intended as she had to jump from the bed. Jean stirred but he didn’t wake up. She stood to her full height and supporting her injured arm, she walked to the door.
Did she even know his room? She thought to herself as she got closer to the door. What if she got caught before she even figured out his room? He didn’t want to see her, this was not going to make her case better.
Mauve shook the heart-wrenching thoughts away and slowly let go of her arm as she turned the handle, it wasn’t locked. She pulled on the door and it opened.
Mauve took a step out and came face to face with Damon. "Aa..." she started to yell but immediately covered her mouth with her palm.
He glared at her and she squirmed under his gaze. "Where are you going?"
"I..." The word sounded muffled and she remembered that her palm was still over her mouth.
"I-I w-was going to see Jael." Even though her mouth wasn’t covered, it didn’t make speech any easier. Damon was likely going to scold her and ask her to return to bed.
"Are you supposed to be moving around?" He asked with a raised brow. He surprisingly didn’t look angry at her.
"Yes," she lied, grabbing her arm to support it. She staggered a little and cursed the heavens. Why were her legs failing her at this crucial time?
His stare became more intense and she knew he didn’t believe a word she said. Mauve squirmed under his gaze. She just needed a minute.
