The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 156. The Harder It Was.
Chapter 156: 156. The Harder It Was.
"Could you lead the physician to the dining room? It should be almost time for the second meal."
Damon shrugged and slowly peeled his gaze from her. He grunted his response and started walking toward the door. Mill turned to look at the physician who already took the cue and was going after Damon.
She watched the both of them exit the room before turning her gaze back to Mauve. "Would you like to eat now or after I clean you up?" Mill asked.
Mauve looked at the bowl of water and towel and winced. There was no way she would willingly let her body be cleaned in such a manner.
"Could I have a proper bath, please?" Mauve said.
"Oh," Mill said and frowned. "I am not sure you can leave the bed yet."
"I am sure I can walk some distance, it’s not like I broke my legs."
She was curious about this even as she spoke she wasn’t sure he could walk without falling. She tossed the sheet off her body showing the rest of the hideous dress. It was loose fitting and one hand hung off her shoulder.
"Wait, I’ll bring the bath water but I will let you eat first, just to be safe."
Mill looked really worried but Mauve wasn’t bothered, she knew Mill at least had the strength to carry her if she fell.
"Okay," Mauve nodded and Mill stood to her feet.
She picked up the bowl of water but left the towel. She walked to the door and opened it. She gave Mill one last glance before she walked out of the door.
"I will be right back," she said and closed the door.
Mauve nodded to the closed door and leaned her head on the headboard. She could feel the pain in her arm gradually increase so it was a good idea to eat first and definitely take the herbs. She rubbed her arm and closed her eyes.
The door opens as Mill walks in with a tray. She placed it on the table and sat close enough to Mauve.
"Can I have the herbs first?" Mauve asked. As much as hated the taste, she would prefer it if it wasn’t the last thing she ate.
"Of course," Mill said and brought the bowl to her lips.
Mauve winced as she got a whiff of the smell.
"Close your eyes and have a drink. It will get over in no time."
Mauve moved her head back and stuck out her lower lip. She looked on the verge of tears. "That won’t change the smell or taste," she cried.
"Yeah but please take it."
Mauve contorted her face some more as Mill brought the bowl closer. This time she did not pull back and she took more than half the content in one go.
She gasped as Mill pulled the bowl away from her. Mauve bent her head forward as she tried to catch her breath, she could feel it go down her throat and she felt queasy.
"Don’t throw up," Mill scolded and raised Mauve’s head.
Mauve glared at her. Easy for the vampire to say but at this point even throwing I wouldn’t make her feel less miserable.
"Please, the food." She begged.
"You’re not done with..."
"Mill," she called softly. "If I should take any more, I cannot promise that my stomach will be able to hold it in."
"Fine," Mill said and brought a spoon of rice to her lips. "You will take the rest after you finish eating."
Mauve simply nodded, she had absolutely no intention of doing that.
While eating a knock was heard on the door. Mill answered it and a servant walked in with a tub and some water. She placed it in the corner of the room and left.
"Are you sure about this? I can easily bring the water to you, you don’t have to leave the bed."
"It is fine," Mauve replied and tried to bring her legs down but her arm felt heavy as she tried to move and Mill had to help her.
She dropped to the ground with a soft thud and staggered a little. Mill supported her and lead her to the bath. It was a little hard to move around but it wasn’t unbearable.
She doubted she would be able to leave the room soon but at least she could walk around the room. She didn’t feel as tired as the first time she woke up so she would likely be awake for longer this time.
The bath was quick and Mill was mindful of her injured hand which hung outside the tub and she was scrubbed clean. It was refreshing to soak in the tub and Mauve knew she would do it again, no questions asked.
Mill didn’t wash her hair as the vampire didn’t want her spending too much time in the water in case she caught a cold. Mauve wasn’t bothered by this, the fact that most of her body had gotten a warm bath was more than enough.
Mill helped her to her feet and wrapped a towel around her before slowly leading her to the bed. Mill dressed her in some underwear and another loose dress.
"Mill," she called softly as the vampire wore the dress over her shoulder.
"Did Jael come here while I was asleep?" She asked.
Mill’s hand froze in her body but she quickly recovered and resumed dressing Mauve up.
"I don’t know," she said.
Mauve frowned, "Is he avoiding me?" She asked.
"What?" Her voice went a notch higher. "No," she said with a lower tone. "I think he is just busy."
"Not injured," Mauve asked looking up at Mill’s face.
"No, not that. I don’t think he sustained any grave injuries and even if he did, it will be healed by now." Mill said with a bright face in an attempt to make Mauve feel better but it only made her feel worse.
"He didn’t come by while I was asleep, right?"
Mill shook her head, "No, he didn’t. He probably wants you to get better completely and doesn’t want to disturb you."
Mauve could only nod, it didn’t make any sense because even Danag dropped in to check on her while she was awake.
"Okay," she said unable to hide her unhappiness. "Thank you."
Mill looked torn but the vampire simply nodded. She helped her get into bed and adjusted her so she would’ve comfortable.
"Get some rest," Mill said and adjusted the covers over her.
Mauve wanted to tell her she didn’t feel sleepy but instead, she asked, "Do you know where Jael’s room is?"
Mill frowned and Mauve could immediately see the wheels turning in her head.
"No, it’s not what you think. I am just curious."
Mill looked hesitant as she said, "Down the path, the last room on the opposite end."
Mauve smiled unknowingly as she discovered they were on the same floor but at the same time, it burnt that he didn’t want to see her. Her smile fell immediately. It wasn’t that he was busy, he was deliberately keeping away from her.
"Thank you, Mill." She said and turned away from her. "I will get some rest."
"Sure thing, I will clean this place up. Please let me know if you need anything."
"I am fine, thank you."
Mauve closed her eyes as her thought ran amok, she knew it wasn’t a good idea to be left with just her thoughts but what else could she do?
She could feel a tiny fear in her chest. Was he going to continue keeping away from her? What was going to happen after she got better? Would he send her back home?
It would make sense considering the trouble she had caused all of them. They were all pulled from Jael’s castle just so she would get better. It is only typical that Jael would think she was more trouble than she was worst.
Besides, even though Mill didn’t look like she had a problem taking care of her, Mauve knew she was only doing it under Jael’s command. She closed her eyes tightly, she didn’t want to go back home.
...
Jael winced as he climbed up the stairs. His shoulders were hurting but it was nothing compared to how his fists had been hurting a couple of minutes ago.
He had managed to eat during the second meal, his first meal in a long time but the only reason he had been able to eat was that he knew he would have been more of a nuisance during this if he didn’t get some energy.
They had managed to get a paler. It wasn’t a big one but at least it was better than nothing. He had lost control for a bit and had hammered the creature more than necessary.
He touched his knuckles, they didn’t hurt as bad but they were covered in dark blood. The blood wasn’t his. He winced at the smell. He would kill for a warm bath.
He got to the top of the stairs and froze for a second. All he needed to do was turn the handle and he would see her but he couldn’t bring himself to walk to the door and he found that the longer he stayed away, the harder it was to come back.
