The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 155. A Hassle

Chapter 155: 155. A Hassle

"Is something the matter, Mill?" He asked coldly. "A servant was just here."

His eyes moved to look at her standing by the door without moving his head and Mill felt all her courage fly out the window.

"Ah, no Sire." Mill hurriedly said. "I wasn’t sure if the servant informed you that Mauve is awake, so I decided to come to tell you myself."

"I know she is awake," he said and looked away from her.

"I didn’t know that," Mill said with her head down. "She also told me to tell you so I wanted to pass along the message."

"I see, is there anything else?"

Mill shook her head. She didn’t know what else to say and by the tension in the room, it was best if she left as fast as she could.

"That is all, Sire." She said and started to leave.

"How is she?" He asked when she got to the door.

Mill turned immediately, "Better, her color isn’t completely back yet and her eyes look shrunken but I can tell the worst is over."

"That’s good," he said and waved his hand at her.

Mill bowed and opened the door. She walked out and closed the door softly before briskly making her way down the path and back to the room Mauve was in.

The door opened when she got close enough and Kieran walked out. He frowned when he saw her. "Did you go to see his Grace?" He asked and closed the door behind him.

Mill nodded.

"What did he say?"

"Nothing."

"He still refuses to see her?" Kieran asked.

"Yes," Mill said.

Kieran frowned, "It doesn’t make any sense, considering how worried he was." He muttered under his breath. "I will go check on him. If you need anything, let me know."

"Thank you," she said and walked past him into the room.

Mauve’s eyes were closed as Mill walked into the room but as soon as she walked closer Mauve opened her eyes.

"Mill, did you tell Jael?" She asked.

She shook her head, "I couldn’t speak to him. He must be very busy." She said with a stiff smile. "As soon as I can reach him. I will let you know."

Mill watched Mauve’s expression turn sour but she immediately covered it.

"Thank you, I am tired now. So, I will probably try to get some sleep."

"You should, I will be right here when you wake up."

"Isn’t it daytime?" Mauve asked, her voice sounding a little weak.

"It is, Mauve," Mill said with a subtle smile.

"Then you should get some rest too."

"Don’t worry about me," Mill said. "I can hold out far longer than you think."

Mauve smiled, it looked like she wanted to say more but Mill could see that she was tired and could no longer stay awake. She didn’t know what to think as she watched Mauve try to fight the sleep and lose but she knew one thing, she was grateful Maybe survived.

...

Mauve opened her eyes, and the first thing she noticed was the open window. It was nighttime already. She had woken up earlier, she could vaguely remember eating but everything else felt like a blur.

Her body was exceedingly weak but now she felt slightly better. Her arm still hurt but at least she wasn’t dying in pain.

She noticed there was a bed spread out on the ground, not far from where she was lying down and she could see the physician sleeping on it. Nobody else was in the room.

There were about four candles at strategic points all around the room but the open window was still a major source of light. The bed she was in was pretty big. Just as big as the one back in Jael’s castle.

She missed it and wondered when she would be able to return. She knew it couldn’t be soon, not with the way she felt. She would need at least a week to be able to travel.

She pushed herself to a sitting position and succeeded without hurting herself. She looked at her arm. The bandage looked cleaner, it must have been changed.

She wanted to see what was underneath it but she doubted she would be able to handle it. She would occasionally get sharp tingling pain from it. Nothing excessively painful. It was just a little jarring.

She yawned, she was a little hungry. She wanted to get out of bed but she was worried her legs would fail her. She didn’t think she had any energy for that yet.

However, she couldn’t feel any pain in her legs so maybe she was just making excuses to not leave the bed. She groaned.

The major reason she wanted to get out of bed was to see Jael. She was worried he was in worse shape than she was and nobody was telling her anything. However, vampires healed fast so it couldn’t be this.

Still, it didn’t make any sense that he wouldn’t want to see her unless she had caused him too much trouble and now he was angry with her.

It must have been a hassle to get a physician to come here just for her. Even her father didn’t put that much effort when she fell ill and thankfully, it wasn’t a lot.

Maybe he was truly busy but a second would have been more than enough for her. Maybe he came by why she was asleep and didn’t want to wake her, she would ask Mill when she saw her.

As if her thoughts had triggered the vampire’s appearance. The door suddenly opened and Mill walked in. She was holding a wide bowl of water and there were towels over her shoulder.

"Mauve," she cried as she saw Mauve sitting on the bed. "You are awake." Mauve thought she looked a little giddy, she doubted it was solely because she was awake.

Mauve smiled at her and nodded slightly. She could see Jean sit upright from the bed at Mill’s loud cry.

"You shouldn’t have moved by yourself. Are you okay?" She asked.

"It wasn’t so difficult to move."

"Still, I was just out for a couple of minutes. I wanted to get some water to clean you up. I wanted to do so earlier but I didn’t want to wake you up."

She dropped the bowl down and peered into Mauve’s face. She placed the back of her palm against Mauve’s forehead. Mauve winced at the cold touch.

"Sorry," Mill apologized and pulled her hand away. "Your fever has gone down completely."

Mauve simply nodded, she wasn’t aware that she had gotten a fever but she knew that her temperature was a little lower than before.

"That’s good," Mill smiled at her. She turned to the physician who looked dazed as he stared at them.

Mauve could tell he had not gotten any proper sleep in a while. She felt bad as she knew she was the reason he was in such a state.

"You humans do need to sleep at night, huh?"

Mauve couldn’t blame him. She had been forced to adapt to the night quickly as they only drove the carriage at night so it was easy to pick back the routine once she got here.

Jean looked like he could barely process her question. He stood up groggily from the bed and walked to the bed. He also checked Mauve’s forehead. His palm was definitely way warmer than Mill’s.

"Her temperature is much better," he said, robotically. "Please try to eat as much as you can and take the herbs at least three times before sundown."

Mauve flinched at the thought of the nasty soup. The fact that she needed to take it occasionally didn’t sit right with her. However, she wanted to get better fast enough. She was already an inconvenience to everyone, she didn’t want to drag it out any further.

"Okay," she said.

"Is there anything else?" Mill asked.

Jean shook his head but immediately stopped as a yawn forced its way out of him. He staggered a little but quickly recovered.

"No, aside from the herbs. I already changed the cloth on her wounds so please don’t get it wet..." Jean paused and yawned again. "You can give her the herb before or after she eats, whichever works for her. You might feel more hungry today, so please make sure to eat accordingly."

Mill nodded as she listened to the physician talk. "I can take it from here," she said. "A guard should be outside, he will lead you the... Damon!" She called and the door opened.

Damon walked in, "Mauve," he said and gave her a little bow.

"Damon," she called excitedly. She was pretty happy to see him.

"I am glad to see you are better."

"Thank you, Damon." She smiled softly.

Mauve returned her attention to Mill to see the vampire adjusting her hair. "Damon," she said softly, her voice sounding high for some reason.

Damon slowly turned his gaze to look at Mill and Mill adjusted in her seat. Mauve could blame her, Damon was quite good-looking.

"What?" He asked, unblinkingly as he stared down at her.

"Could you lead the physician to the dining room? It should be almost time for the second meal."
