The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 153. A Month

Chapter 153: 153. A Month

"Wake up," Kieran said softly as he shook the physician.

The physician blinked and looked disoriented for a couple of seconds before he recovered. He jumped to his feet and immediately bowed to Kieran.

"I apologize for falling asleep. I-I..."

"I understand," Kieran suddenly said, cutting him off. He looked at Mauve who was asleep, he didn’t expect anything less.

"Thank you so much," the physician said rapidly. "Her situation has not changed much," he ranted. "But I am confident that she should be much better by the time she wakes up. I asked someone to prepare more..."

Kieran held out his hand, "Come with me. You will give your report to the King and then you can take a break."

Kieran frowned as he stared the human down. He did look like he was about to fall on his feet. He couldn’t afford to have him collapse before the treatment even started.

"No," I am fine. I just needed a little shut-eye. I don’t need sleep."

Kieran raised a brow as he stared at the human’s red eyes. A yawn shut the rest of his words.

"Have you been fed?" He asked.

"Um..." Jean paused, scratching the back of his head. "Nope," he said under his breath. "We have only just finished."

Kieran frowned and turned away from him. He walked to the door and opened it. Standing about three feet away was Mill. "Lord Kieran," she said while standing. "I had some errands to take care of."

"Mill," he said softly. "We will be right back. We are off to see the King, let me know as soon as something is up."

"Of course, Mill said, nodding vigorously. "Is she still sleeping?" She asked the physician directly.

He nodded, "She will probably remain this way for a couple of hours. Also, she would probably be very hungry when she wakes up so if something that would be light on her stomach could be made, soup, porridge, or anything but please make it with the herbs. I also told someone else but I realized, I didn’t inform you."

"That’s fine," Mill said, nodding. "I will get everything ready."

"Also, if you can tell a servant to get the physician some food," Kieran said.

Mill looked away, a little embarrassed as she realized she didn’t think of that. "Of course, I will get right to it."

Kieran started walking in the opposite direction as the physician stepped in line behind him. He stopped in front of the door and knocked twice. He didn’t get a response, so he knocked again.

"Come in," an annoyed voice said. Kieran tried to keep a straight face as he turned the knob. "Sire," he said, bowing slightly. From the corner of his eyes, he could see the human repeating his action.

Kieran stood to his full height and walked further into the room but the human remained rooted to the spot. Kieran immediately noticed that the food was as he had left it. He frowned but didn’t stare too long at it nor did he mention it.

"I brought him as you asked," Kieran said when the silence began to stretch too long.

"I can see that," Jael said with a glint in his eyes. "Come closer," Jael said, turning to the physician.

Kieran looked to the physician and saw that he had not moved from the spot by the door. Kieran frowned at the way he huddled close to the door, Kieran doubted he would be able to get any closer than that.

"I said come closer," Jael said a little too harshly and Kieran winced.

The physician shook a little and took a step forward. Kieran couldn’t blame him even he thought Jael was scary, let alone the poor human. He wondered what was going through his head.

Jael sighed, "Fine, you can stay there. Just be loud enough for me to hear. What’s her situation?" He asked.

Jean looked at Kieran and back to Jael. He realized from the look on Kieran’s face that he was on his own and he had to tell this properly.

Kieran smiled softly at him in an attempt to ease the situation but he doubted he was of any help at all.

"She is asleep now," he said and his eyes darted around. He knew he would need to say more but he couldn’t find the words.

"Surely, that can’t be all," Jael said stiffly. "If it is, you haven’t done a single thing as she was asleep before you came here."

The physician looked even more miserable and was at a loss for words.

"How long would it take her to fully recover?" Jael said when he got no response from the physician.

"I can’t say for sure but I should be able to take the stitches out in about ten days. It was well done but I can’t imagine the pain she must have felt during the stitching. However, waiting for my arrival would have been a little too late. Also, the wounds don’t look infected though I did clean around them again. I also applied some ointment that would help with the healing."

Jael’s eyes turned to slits, "So, how long then?"

"A month but she might still feel some pain till the second month."

Kieran watched Jael’s shoulders relax. He couldn’t blame him, he had assumed it would take longer too. He had assumed it would take longer with how bad the wounds were.

"I will hold you to your words," Jael said and looked away.

"However," Jean quickly said. "That’s if there are no complications." His voice shook as he realized the implication of what he just said.

"Complications?" Jael frowned and sat upright.

The physician nodded.

"Well, then there had better be no complications."

Jean nodded vigorously at his intense stare. "Yes, there won’t be any but..." He immediately swallowed the rest of his words.

"But? Out with it!" Jael ordered.

Jean jerked. "It is not a question," he mumbled. "More like an observation. I noticed that even though she lost a lot of blood, she didn’t look too pale and it is something that has been bothering me."

"Oh, that?" Kieran spoke. "I gave her some."

The physician jerked his head upward and Kieran could visibly see the blood fade from his face. "You can give humans vampire blood. I thought that it was harmful to us." His fear was forgotten as he scolded Kieran.

"Don’t be ridiculous, of course, it is. I gave her some human blood." Kieran scolded. He was a little annoyed.

The physician looked even more horrified. "You shouldn’t have done that. There are different types of blood. She would react differently if you give her the wrong blood type..."

Jael threw his head back and laughed. "A human educating a vampire on blood. Well, I can almost say I’ve seen it all."

"I apologized," he said and returned to bowing. "I got a little carried away but since she doesn’t seem to have any reaction to it, I guess it must be successful." Jean looked puzzled as he spoke, he didn’t look too happy with the conclusion he had drawn.

"Must be?" Kieran asked.

Jael chuckled. "What’s your name?" He asked.

"Jean Caddel."

"Okay, leave me both of you."

Kierm bowed and started walking toward the door but the physician beat him to it. He looked like he couldn’t wait to leave. He walked behind and the physician suddenly stopped.

"Lord Kieran," he said suddenly.

Kieran frowned and eyed him oddly, wondering what this was about. "What?" He was a little bothered that the human was calling him by his given name.

"I am sorry to be a bother." He said and looked away. "But I can’t help thinking about the blood transfusion. How did you know the right blood to give her? A little mistake and she could have died. Blood transfusion is not something we have been able to perfect."

"I see, well I used an unorthodox method," Kieran said and walked past him. Well, the method wasn’t really that unusual considering all vampires use it.

"I would very much like to know this method," Jean said, rushing after him.

Kieran felt a tic in his neck. The human was certainly getting bolder. Well, as long as he treated the princess properly no harm would come to him.

"The taste," Kieran said with hesitation.

Jean stopped in his tracks. "What?" He yelled.

Kieran slowed as he turned around. "You didn’t know vampires can tell the different blood by their tastes."

"No, this is news to me," Jean said with an unbelievable look on his face. "I can’t begin to fathom the concept."

"That’s because you shouldn’t be too worried about that. Just treat the princess and you can be on your way." Kieran said as he opened the door to the room Mauve was in.

Mill was seated on a nearby chair just staring at Mauve as he opened the door. "Lord Kieran," she said, tearing her eyes from the princess and standing at her feet.
