The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 152. Out of Character.

Chapter 152: 152. Out of Character.

Suddenly, she started to choke. The bowl was immediately pulled away from her face as she coughed but it wasn’t strong enough to clear her throat and she felt panic rise up.

She would have struggled if she had any energy to move around but all she could do was cough. The panic clouded everything else as her half-awake mind feared the worst.

"Mauve," Mill’s voice called out to her. She could hear the worry in her voice. By the cold hands on her skin, she could tell Mill was the one holding her up.

As Mauve coughed weakly, she felt someone push her a little so she was leaning forward.

"Gently," the voice said.

A slight tap on her back and she could breathe again.

"She is fine," he said. "Please lean her back."

She coughed again but not because she had to but because it was the aftermath of her coughing fit. She felt her chest rise and fall at her steady breathing.

The bowl was put to her lips again. Mauve tried to shake her head but since she couldn’t move her head, she stuck out her tongue instead. She didn’t want whatever it was, it made her feel weird.

"Please drink, you need the energy. You will feel better soon enough." The same voice said.

She knew she wasn’t alone but all she could think about was trying to escape from the pain. She didn’t even know where she was, and couldn’t remember anything before the pain.

She groaned but the bowl didn’t leave and just wanted to go back to sleep. She swallowed and winced. Was it just she or it tasted slightly bitter? She didn’t want to drink anymore but it was obvious that it won’t be taken away unless she finished the content.

Mauve could feel tears fall down the side of her face. Her arm still hurt, it was hard to ignore the pain. The pain kept her mind clear and didn’t give her anything to think about.

The bowl was taken away after she drank the contents and she was glad she was done drinking it but she was still sitting upright, she wanted to lie down.

"Please, hold her for a few minutes. I don’t want her throwing up."

After a couple of minutes, she was placed back on the bed and she felt something cold on her shoulder, it was soothing. She felt the pain fade a little as soon as it touched her shoulder.

She groaned and felt her consciousness fade. She didn’t even fight it as she went back to sleep. She slept better this time, the pain was bearable.

...

Jael smacked his lips as he sat on the couch with his head over the edge and his eyes closed. He placed his palm over his forehead. At some point, he had taken his shirt off but he could not recall.

His mouth tasted weird, it probably had to do with the fact that the last time he ate was the second meal last night. The thought of eating made his stomach churn. He knew he couldn’t continue like this. He would have to eat soon.

His body felt like he had been dragged around by a horse but the pain kept him from dealing with his thoughts. They made him feel worse than the pain.

A knock opened his eyes and Jael frowned. Kieran was behind the door. The vampire better has some good news. He wasn’t sure how he would react if he heard otherwise.

"Come in," he said stiffly, not moving from the position.

"Sire," Kieran said with a bow as he opened the door. He closed the door behind and the sound of the closing door echoed in Jael’s head.

"Tell me you have some good news, Kieran. If you don’t, it will be best if you walk back out. I can’t promise that I will be civil."

Jael raised his head slightly as he spoke so he could see Kieran who wasn’t standing too far away from the door. Kieran still had his head bent and Jael watched him slowly stand to his full height.

"I can’t say what kind of news this is but I know you would like to know," Kieran said.

Jael squinted his eyes. "Out with it," he said and ran his hands through his hair.

"He gave her some herbs for the pain and her fever. She is sleeping now but according to him, she will feel better when she wakes up. She does look to be less in pain..."

Jael sat upright and glared at him. "You are not telling me anything concrete, Kieran."

Kieran frowned and stopped talking.

"Bring the physician here," he ordered.

"He is still with her," Kieran said. "As soon as he takes a break, I will bring him to you."

"Alright," Jael said and returned to lie back on the couch the way he was. "What do you think about the physician?" Jael asked as Kieran turned to leave.

"Nothing," Kieran said matter-of-factly. "However, he does look like he knows what to do. Aren’t you going to see how she is doing yourself? You haven’t checked on her since after you woke up last night."

Jael shrugged, "There is no point. I won’t exactly be of any help. Besides, I will just take up space. Now, shoo."

"Yes, Sire," Kieran said with a bow and walked out the door.

Jael sighed at the closed door. Kieran’s tone as he spoke about Mauve sounded better. Jael couldn’t only have hope, he should probably check on her but the last time broke him. He wasn’t sure he would be able to control him. When she got relatively better, he would.

He frowned as he sensed the vampire coming back. What did he want? Jael’s frown deepened at the knock. There was a servant with Kieran. What was this about?

"Come in," he said, a little hesitant. "What do you want?" He asked sternly.

"I brought your lunch, Sire," Kieran said unapologetically as the servant walked forward.

"What part of -I will come to get my food myself if I am hungry- did you not get?"

Jael sat upright, glaring at Kieran but the Vampire looked unfazed. The servant, however, was rooted to the spot and Jael could see him look to Kieran for help.

"As your physician, I wouldn’t recommend staying this long without eating," Kieran said with a straight face.

"Don’t be ridiculous. Just because you cut into my skin doesn’t mean anything. Besides, with or without your help it would have healed. The only problem is that it would have taken longer."

Jael squinted. He was slightly annoyed. That wasn’t the point here. He was quite appreciative of Kieran’s help but he would rather not be told what to do.

"If you say so," Kieran said, waving his hand to the servant to keep moving. "However, I will keep the meal here just in case you change your mind," Kieran said with a stiff smile.

Jael returned to the comfortable position of his head hanging off the bed. "Do as you like," he said and looked at the ceiling.

"Thank you, Sire," Kieran said and the servant walked forward.

Jael shrugged and he heard the servant drop the trap on the table and he quickly fled out the door.

"I will check back in a couple of minutes, hopefully with the physician."

Jael scoffed but he didn’t respond and Kieran walked out the door. He looked back at Jael before he closed the door. He caused under his breath. Louis would be able to do a better job getting Jael to eat.

The king was still as stubborn as ever but that wasn’t the only baffling part. He never in a million years thought that Jael would be this upset about a human. If he had to bet his life, he would be dead because he would have surely made the wrong choice.

He stood in front of the room Mauve was in and turned the knob. The physician was sitting by her side, he was dozing off. Kieran could blame him, it was definitely past his bedtime and the journey here must have taken its toll on him.

He walked into the room, there was no one else in the room except a sleeping Mauve. He frowned as he looked at her face. The constant look of pain was gone and he could tell she was finally sleeping peacefully.

He walked closer and peered at her sleeping face. She looked absolutely helpless with her pale skin and weak limbs. He couldn’t comprehend what was it about her that could drive his King to such heights.

Jael was usually uncaring, insensitive, and an annoying vampire. His current behavior was completely out of character.

He frowned as he stared at her. He didn’t need anyone to tell him that this was troublesome. He was willing to see how far this would go. He doubted Jael realized what was happening.

"Wake up," Kieran said softly as he shook the physician.
