The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 150. Little Inconvenience (Part 1)

Chapter 150: 150. Little Inconvenience (Part 1)

Jael stood by the open door, where he was joined by Kieran. The guards stopped in front of them and they immediately bowed.

"This is the physician," Damon announced as Zane placed a small human in front of Jael. Jael noticed Damon’s coat was missing but thought nothing of it.

Jael squinted and stepped forward to have a closer look. The human shrank at his stare. The human did not look that old. If Jael had to guess, he would say mid-twenties by human standards.

"Evan sent this?" Jael peered at him, he wasn’t sure how he felt about the human but he did think he was a little too young. His age didn’t matter though, as long as he knew what to do.

However, that was not the only problem. The human also looked sick, Jael was surprised he could stand. His face was red as if all his blood had flowed to his head and he looked like he would fall at any point.

"About that," Damon said walking forward. "I need to have a word with you, Sire."

Jael’s brows furrowed some more. "What’s wrong?" He glanced toward Damon.

The vampire’s expression didn’t give anything away. "It would be better to discuss this in private, Sire."

Jael’s expression soured, he could tell it was something serious. He could not remember the last time he heard Damon speak in such a tone. He was angry.

"I see." He said and returned his gaze to the human. "I am counting on you, physician. Don’t fail me," Jael said and tapped him lightly on the shoulder.

The physician looked faint and Jael was surprised he didn’t fall to the ground. He could tell the human was scared. As anxious as he was, he didn’t want to scare the human.

He needed the physician to be able to treat Mauve properly. He knew first-hand that humans never performed properly while scared. However, his gesture of assurance only seemed to scare the physician some more.

"Hmm," Jael said. "Take him with you, Kieran. Take him to Mauve now."

"Yes, Sire," Kieran said and nodded.

Kieran grabbed the physician by his wrist and pulled. He flailed behind Kieran. Jael watched them go as the other guards dispersed.

"Zane, stay the night. You can leave by sunset." He said.

"Thank you, Sire," Zane said bowing.

Jael walked out of the open doors. "Walk with me, Damon."

"Yes, sire," Damon said as he walked in step with Jael.

Jael stopped abruptly and turned to the guards by the doors. "As soon as something is up, I should be informed immediately." He ordered.

The guards looked a little stunned but they immediately recovered, "Yes, Sire." They said simultaneously, bowing as low as possible.

Jael continued the walk and didn’t stop walking until he got to the side of the house. There were servants about but none of them were within earshot.

He rested against the wall as he looked to the moon. The fence could be seen clearly from here as it was just an open field by the side of the house.

"I am listening, Damon," Jael said, still looking at the moon. He felt a sense of relief. Help was here, faster than he planned, Mauve would be fine.

"We got to the human kingdom without incident." Damon started. "I found an inn where I and Zane stayed while the rest remained in a cave."

Jael frowned, however, he wasn’t impatient. Damon wasn’t one to give unnecessary details.

"I found someone to send the letter using a carrier pigeon and the reply came back..."

Jael looked down as he heard rustling. Damon then handed him a letter. "The Human King gave a..." Damon paused as if looking for the right way to phrase what he wanted to say.

Jael frowned and pulled the letter from his grasp. His eyes could make out the scribble, the moon was bright so it was more than enough light for him to read the words.

Jael frowned at the handwriting, he wasn’t sure he recognized it, not that it mattered. It was the contents that mattered.

The letter started unimpressively. His full name, which kind of annoyed him. Some annoying pleasantries and then as he read further, Jael’s brows furrowed while Damon just stood in the corner staring.

Jael D’Arcy Valdic

I hope this letter finds you well, King of the Vampires. I got your letter and unfortunately, I cannot be of help at this time as most of my physicians are indisposed and it will be suicidal to send the only one available to the Vampire Regions.

Tales of Palers getting out of hand have been running rampant, I cannot afford to lose my best physician. Not at a time like this, when there are more incidents of the White Disease. Don’t forget humans have their own problems too. We don’t heal from drinking blood.

I do hope you understand and I am sure you can find a physician that can travel with you. Also, the princess is now your responsibility. Don’t think I will be able to help out with every little inconvenience...

"Little!" Jael yelled and crushed the letter. There was no way he would be able to finish reading it.

He could feel his boil, he squeezed his palm hard until he felt his nails dig into his palm but he didn’t care, he couldn’t feel the pain. The only reason he could tell he broke through his skin was the smell of his blood.

He wanted to break something. What was this slimy excuse? He could not comprehend why the King wouldn’t want to help his daughter. It didn’t make any sense.

"This is the response you got?" Jael asked staring hard at Damon who had his head bowed. Jael’s head was ringing. He wanted to break something.

"Yes," Damon said and bent his head. "I had no option but to find a physician myself."

"Are you certain of him?" Jael asked.

"No," Damon said softly.

"What? Are you out of your mind, Damon? You brought a physician you’re not sure of."
