Chapter 141. Smell Like The Wild

Chapter 141: 141. Smell Like The Wild

Jael watched Damon leave and his hands folded into two fists. Basically, all he could do was wait. He was never great at waiting games. He walked back and forth.

"Would you calm down?" Kieran scolded. "You’re not helping."

"Can I see her now?" He asked, ignoring Kieran’s words.

Kieran sighed, "I suppose. I do want to check on her myself to see that everything is fine. Come with me."

There was a guard in front of the door when they got to the entrance. He bowed as he acknowledged their presence.

"Any news?"

The guard shook his head, "Nothing, my Lord."

"I see," Kieran said and touched the handle.

Jael stood behind Kieran as he pushed the door open. Jael closed his eyes as he walked in. The first thing he got a whiff of was blood. It wasn’t just her blood but it smelt more strongly than anything.

Jael trod slowly, afraid of what he would see when he saw her. He walked behind Kieran, talking his time. His footsteps were hesitant while Kieran walked with purpose.

Kieran stopped beside the bed as his eyes studied Mauve. "She is still asleep." He said without looking to see Jael’s reaction. "That’s good, I was worried. She would be tossing around in pain."

Jael took his time to approach the bed. Kieran moved out of the way when he got close enough. "I will be outside," Kieran said. "I know I don’t have to tell you to not wake her up."

Mauve laid on the bed with her hair scattered around her. Her lips were partly open and there was a little color on them. They didn’t look as cracked as they had when he brought her hair.

Her slightly pale skin was in contrast with the dark sheets across her chest. Her bandaged arm and shoulder, peaked out of the covered sheets.

Compared to his white shirt that was soaked with blood, the bandages looked most clean, only about two spots of blood were seen.

Studied her sleeping face and her brows furrowed. He wondered if she was still in pain as she slept. She looked so fragile as she laid on the bed, smaller even.

He brushed some hair away from her face and he immediately pulled back his hand. Kieran should have warned him about how hot her body was. She turned her head to the side and a groan escaped her lips but she didn’t open her eyes.

Jael felt his heart squeeze, the thought that she could have died kicked him in the guts so hard it hurt. He won’t be this careless again. He should have thought of the chance of something like this happening.

What if she had been bitten? What would he have done there? If he couldn’t keep a tiny human who relied on him safe, what then could he do?

Jael dropped low so his face was parallel to hers. "This is my fault," he whispered. "It won’t happen again, I’ll make sure to keep you safe."

He brushed the hair off her face and kissed her cheek. He pulled back and his lips stung from the heat. He stood to his feet and gave her one last look before he walked out of the room.

He opened the door to see Kieran standing just outside the door. The vampire was looking at him with a strange look in his eyes.

"You should get some rest," Kieran said.

Jael shrugged, he didn’t feel the least bit tired.

"She will be fine," Kieran said. "I have done all that I can for her."

Jael opened his mouth to say thanks and Kieran interrupted him.

"Or a shower at least," Kieran suggested. "You smell like the wild, Sire."

Jael squinted his eyes. "You must be imagining things."

"I’ll tell the servants to bring a bath up to your room. Walter is back so the second meal should be ready in half an hour."

Jael didn’t respond, he just started walking away.

"Don’t take your bandage off until you’re sure your bone had healed, Sire." Kieran called after him but Jael didn’t respond.

He kept walking into he got to the door of his room. He pushed the door open and walked into the room. He hated the fact that it was quite some distance from the room Mauve’s was in.

The curtains in the room was drawn apart and the moonlight poured in. He sat on the bed, there was a wet patch on the bed from where he had laid. His pants didn’t feel cold.

He couldn’t even feel the pain in his legs and he had walked all around without any shoes on even with the healing blisters. He placed his head in his palm.

He had seen her injury, it wasn’t something that could be healed in a week, he just hoped she wouldn’t be in this poor state by then.

A knock roused him from his thoughts and he raised his head. "Come in," Jael managed to say.

A servant walked in with a bath and another with a change of clothes and footwear. They both bowed before leaving the room. Jael watched them leave without saying a word.

He took his time before he got into the bath, by the time he got in the water was lukewarm. Jael sat in the tub unmoving for a while, even the loud knocking didn’t faze him.

The door threw open after several knocks and Kieran walked in. "Danag is back, Sire. I will attend to her now. Please, be ready for the second meal by the time I return."

Jael didn’t respond to this and Kieran gave him a worried expression before he left the room. As the door closed, Jael forced himself to wash up.

He got out of the water, dripping everywhere. He dried himself haphazardly and put on the clothes. The pants fit but the shirt felt a little tight but not in an uncomfortable way. He walked out of the room with wet hair dripping everywhere.
