The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 140. Damon

Chapter 140: 140. Damon

Damon stood in front of the King with his head slightly bent, he was exhausted and his body felt like it belonged to someone else.

The Paler he had fought was not only strong but its regenerative ability made it difficult to suppress even when he had help, they had difficulties completely restricting its movement. They had finally succeeded after cutting off its limbs numerous times before it could regenerate.

He could not comprehend how he had managed on his own after Jael left but he had heard the scream too and he knew it must be bad.

He had found out later that a Paler had attacked the princess and Jael. The guards had also told him the direction Jael had headed in and he immediately knew it was Xanthus Estate.

Now here he was thinking he had performed his part in this and the King was asking him, "Do you think you can travel, Damon?" Jael asked, with a piercing stare.

Damon blinked and looked around, "Where would you like me to go?" He asked.

"The Kingdom of Greenham. Mauve needs a human physician. We do not have the time to wait for Danag to get back and this is a matter of grave urgency. I hate to send you off like after what you have just been through."

Damon frowned, he thought Danag was supposed to be here. According to the last information he got concerning the head guard, he was headed for the Xanthus Estate to help Kieran with his research.

"Where did Danag go?" He heard himself ask.

Jael frowned, "To get more blood. We ran out of her type."

"I see," Damon said with a glum expression. No matter how fast Danag was, he would need at least three hours to go back and forth. "I can travel. I need a bath, some blood and maybe food."

"Done," Kieran said and clapped his hand. The door was immediately thrown open and a servant appeared at the entrance.

"Are you sure?" Jael asked with a frown.

Damon’s face brightened up a little. Even though the King was probably checking to make sure he wasn’t too weary to travel, so as to avoid a failed mission. He was going to think of this as a show of concern.

"Yes, Sire." He replied with a soft bow.

"I will go with him," Zane suddenly announced.

Jael turned away from Damon and eyed Zane oddly, "And how will that benefit you? I don’t think it’s the Lord’s order that you carry on this far." He studied the guard expression as he spoke.

"No but he wouldn’t be pleased if he found that I could be of more use and I left. We were behind you and from the direction the Palers came from we should have noticed them first." Zane fell to his knees and placed his head on the ground. "I ask for your mercy and a chance to redeem myself."

Jael stared at the guard condescendingly. "Since you’ve offered yourself, you better put yourself to good use."

"Yes, Sire." Zane said, still on his knees.

"Rise. What about the Palers?" Jael directed his question to Damon while Zane stood to his feet.

"I don’t know. As soon as they were incapacitated, I left. I met Zane on the way here. The rest of the guards should be more than enough to dispose of them properly."

"I see, go get ready." Jael said dismissing them.

Damon bowed and walked out of the room. A servant was standing outside the room, she led him to where he would have his bath. After washing up, he was given a change of clothes.

She then led them to the kitchen where they were served a hot meal. Damon hurriedly finished his meal. He only had a few minutes to rest before he got ready to leave. While resting he fed.

"Here," Jael said as they stood by the main entrance. "It’s a letter to the King, this should speed up the process of trying to find the right person. Send this to the palace."

Damon nodded and accepted the letter, he quickly placed it in his inner pockets. He checked to make sure there was no way he could lose it.

"They will go with you," Kieran suddenly announced.

Damon raised his head to see three other guards standing not far off. He frowned, he had assumed it would just be him and Zane. However, it was not his job to ask questions.

He nodded and turned to look at them, they didn’t look inexperienced but he doubted they had ventured into the human lands before. He will probably keep it that way.

"That is all," Jael said. "You may leave."

Damon nodded and quickly made his way out of the estate. It was hard to run at top speed with how exhausted he was but he knew Jael sent him because he was the only one available and he intended to do his job right.

It took almost two hours to get out of the Vampire Region. Xanthus Estate was further in that he thought. Even though they had taken a shortcut, it still took this long. He was grateful they didn’t run into any Paler, they could not afford any delay.

He did not see the princess but from how agitated the King seemed, it was safe to assume her situation was critical. Critical enough to not wait for Danag to be back from the castle.

He slowed down at the border. "Let’s take a break." He yelled into the night.

They were lucky enough to not run into any Paler but he doubted their luck would remain the same in the Nolands and he needed a breather.

He sat on the ground with his back against a rock, he needed all the rest he could get. He had still not recovered completely from the fight and if he had a choice, he wouldn’t have embarked on this trip.

"Twenty minutes," he said to Zane as he closed his eyes. "We move in twenty minutes."
