Chapter 138. Drink It!
Chapter 138: 138. Drink It!
Mauve felt cold to her bones. She didn’t know where she was but all she could feel was cold as if she had been left in a tub of water on a freezing weather. She couldn’t open her eyes, her body felt heavy and she couldn’t hear anything.
However, there was a pain in her arm. She did not know how she knew it was her arm but she could tell. It was the only thing that burned as the rest of her felt like ice.
Suddenly, she started to warm up little by little. It started with her fingers and then it moved to her torso and then her feet. It felt cozy and she wanted to lie in the warmth for as long as she could. It made her feel safe and the cold was quickly forgotten.
However, the warmth gradually grew warmer and it soon turned hot. Suddenly, a burning sensation traveled from her arm to the rest of her body. Mauve would have sworn someone lit her up and set her body ablaze.
Mauve heard a loud sound echo back at her and she felt her body thrash around. It felt far removed from her. The only thing that felt real was the pain, it was intense and unlike anything she had felt before.
"Hold her down," a voice yelled. "Be careful! We cannot afford any broken bones. More alcohol! The cuts are pretty deep, the risk of an infection is high."
The burning sensation suddenly worsened and Mauve felt her body go limp. Her mind went blank. She couldn’t hear anything or see anything and she couldn’t feel either. Just numb.
She didn’t know how long she was on that state when she felt something tiny pierce her body. She groaned in pain but quickly went under. It was unbearable to be awake, the pain was still all she could feel and somehow it felt worse than before.
She woke up again but immediately went under. During the few seconds she was awake, she could neither open her eyes nor move her body. All she could feel was pain.
...
Jael felt a sharp pain as something cut into his arm. His eyes immediately flew open.
"You’re awake," Kieran said casually as he tore into Jael’s arm. "Don’t move so much."
"What are you doing?" Jael asked and tried to lift his arm to see.
"I said don’t move," Kieran scolded. "You have a lot of broken bones embedded in your skin. Not only that, the arm healed wrongly. I have to break the bone again." Kieran cursed under his breath.
"How is she?" Jael said and looked to the ceiling. "The fact that you’re treating me better mean she is fine."
The room he was in was unfamiliar. It was bigger than the room he had placed Mauve. He tried to look around and quickly saw that only Kieran and two other servants were in the room with me.
Kieran sighed, "Her situation isn’t as critical but she isn’t out of the woods yet and she is in a lot of pain. I don’t have any herbs that can ease the pain. I don’t have any herbs at all." He briefly closed his eyes.
"I was able to stitch the cuts and give her blood but there was only one bag of her blood type which wasn’t nearly enough with the amount of blood she lost."
"Can’t you get more?" Jael yelled, darkly. He should have more than enough back at the palace.
"Way ahead of you, I sent Danag. He should be back soon enough. More importantly, she needs a human physician. The amount of pain she is in might affect her psychologically."
Jael cursed, "That bad?"
"It’s a lot of pain, Sire. Aside from the fact that the cuts are very deep, it was also caused by a Paler. They are not exactly the cleanest bunch. I did disinfect the wound and even though she passed out multiple times during the process, tears still poured down her eyes."
Jael swore, the fact that she had to go through that tore at his heart. He was even more embarrassed knowing he had been sleeping all through this while she dealt with the pain herself when it was his fault that she got injured.
Aside from all these feelings, the feeling of relief was the strongest. Relief that even though she wasn’t completely fine, at least she wasn’t at death’s door. He did not know what he would have done if the news was different.
"She did not have any broken bones on her arm." Kieran went on. "I was worried about that. Treating a broken bone with that wound wouldn’t have been easy. She has other bruises on her body too but the most notable ones are the ones on her knees and the front of her calves."
Jael frowned and stared hard at Kieran, "Were they severe?" He asked. He wondered if she had gotten it when they both fell into the water.
Kieran shook his head. "An ointment would have done the trick but unfortunately, I don’t have anything of that sort."
"I see," Jael responded. "How’s her temperature?"
"Steadily rising?"
Jael jerked his head, "That can’t be good."
"That’s not bad either. She’s bound to have a fever. That’s not entirely a bad sign, it would be worrisome if she didn’t get a fever. Here," Kieran said and handed Jael a bag of blood. "Drink up."
Jael caught it with his right hand and eyed the bag oddly even though he knew exactly what the content of the bag was.
"Drink it!" Kieran said sternly. "She is not the only one who lost blood, Sire. Yours was quite severe, I’ve never seen a vampire pass out before."
Jael opened his mouth to say something snarky but Kieran chose that moment to break the bone in his arm. Jael cursed Kieran at the pain.
"Drink up," Kieran said again and took a step back. "It should help your arm heal properly this time."
