The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 137. Theoretical Knowledge
Chapter 137: 137. Theoretical Knowledge
Jael cursed as he landed shoulder first against the water. He did not hear the sound of his bones breaking because of the loud and strong current but he felt it. He winced in pain but immediately ignored it.
The only good news was the fact that he hit the ground with his shoulder first. If his head had hit the stones on the floor of the river as hard as his shoulder had, he would be unconscious and that wouldn’t be good for either of them.
The current was strong enough to carry both of them easily and if his grip on her lessened even the slightest amount, she would slip out of his hands. He gripped eased his shoulder as hit the floor but he held her through the pain.
He was submerged in water as he laid on his left side which meant so was Mauve, he had to get her out now before she drowned. He was sure she wasn’t conscious enough to hold her breath.
The water pushed him forward and the stone stopped his movement. He managed to stand upright through the pain of his sprained shoulder and most likely a broken arm.
Thankfully, he was already at the edge of the river so the current wasn’t as bad, he could push through it. He pushed against it and got to the end of the river.
He got out dripping water from the top of his head to the sole of his feet, to say he was drenched was an understatement. However, Mauve was in the same state. This wasn’t good.
He quickly placed her flat on the ground and she coughed out some water. He checked to make sure she was breathing properly. By the look of things she didn’t take in that much water.
He placed his head against her chest and he could still hear her steady heartbeat but it was much slower. The loud sound of the water flowing drowned out everything else and he had to press his ear against her chest to hear her.
Jael immediately took off his soaked coat and his boots, leaving only his pants on. Since they were soaked, they were more likely to slow him down than to be of any help.
He picked her up and her body felt cold against him. Her temperature was dropping. Was it the water that they fell in? Jael swore and took off barefoot.
He couldn’t help the joy that overcame him when the gate of the estate appeared in view. He banged against it loudly. "Kieran!" He yelled.
The gates were immediately thrown open and Jael shot through the open gates. His feet were blistered and bleeding but he didn’t care. He rushed in, with every step he took, her body felt colder.
She felt limb in his arms, her face was white, almost as white as the Paler that had attacked them and her lips were cracked. Jael closed his eyes, he was here now. She was going to be fine, he hoped.
"Sire!" Danag’s loud voice called to him as he threw the front doors open.
"Where is Kieran?!" Jael yelled without acknowledging Danag’s presence.
"Is that the princess?" Danag asked with a horrified look on his face. "Your arm!"
Jael did not say anything as he walked in with Mauve in his arms. He couldn’t feel his feet, his arm and shoulder hurt so much, the pain was all he could feel.
"I am right here," said a tired vampire. Kieran walked out of the corner yawning loudly.
"Kieran!" Jael said again.
Kieran’s eyes fell on Jael and he immediately understood the situation. Every hint of exhaustion evaporated from his body and he immediately looked alert.
"This way," he said and led Jael upstairs. He pushed the first door that appeared at the end of the stairs open. "Lay her on the bed," he ordered.
As he asked, he folded his sleeves even as Jael placed her on the bed. The sheets soaked as soon as she was laid on it. Kieran frowned. "Why is she drenched?"
"We fell into the river."
Kieran swore, "What happened before that?"
"A Paler attacked her," Jael said and stepped away to give Kieran access to Mauve.
"Was she bitten?" Kieran asked as he moved closer to her.
"I don’t know," Jael said and shook his head. He sat on the edge of the bed and put his head on his palm.
"You know I can’t do anything for her if she is bitten," Kieran said and walked closer to the bed.
"What if she isn’t? Can you?"
Kieran closed his eyes, "I don’t know. All I know about humans is what I have read. I don’t think all my theoretical knowledge will go so well practically. I don’t need to check her, I can see this doesn’t look good and even if I can help her, she would still need a human physician."
"I understand, I am counting on you Kieran."
The young vampire sighed, "I will do my best. Start a fire now!" Kieran ordered. "You get me towels, lots of them and a change of clothes."
Jael frowned and noticed for the first time that he wasn’t alone. He frowned, he must be really out of it. He had not realized when the servants walked in.
The servants moved quickly and soon enough the fire was lit and Mauve’s clothes changed.
"Not enough!" Kieran yelled. "Bring heat stones."
Jael body felt heavy, he could even move it if he had too. There was also the headache and the pain in his arm has eased up but it was quickly replaced with another kind of pain.
"Sire," Kieran suddenly called to him. "You arm is healing wrongly and there is a bruise. You will..."
Jael squinted his eyes, Kieran was suddenly blurry and his ears could keep track of his words. He opened his mouth to complain but no words fell out.
He blinked and realized that be was sliding off the bed but he couldn’t seem to stop himself from falling to the ground. Jael was unconscious before he hit the ground.
"Sire!" Kieran shouted.
