The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 129. In The Daylight
Chapter 129: 129. In The Daylight
Mauve sat on the bed with a glum expression. Why in heaven’s name did he let her tag along if it was going to be like this?
"Ohh!" She groaned. He was taking a little too long with this. She wondered what they were talking about. It wasn’t like she could ask him.
The door flew open and Mauve smiled despite herself. She realized and quickly changed her expression to neutral. She looked away as he walked to her.
His coldness to her was bothersome, even as he spoke to her his pitch neither rose nor fell. It was almost neutral. At this point, she was sure she must have offended him at his point.
"Did I do something wrong?" She asked, looking up at him.
"What gave you that idea?" He asked with a blank face. It was annoying that she could even guess what he was thinking.
"Nothing," she said and looked away.
A knock drew both their attention to the door. "Come in," Jael said. He could tell he was still looking at her.
The door opened and Mauve looked to the entrance. A servant walked in with their heads bowed. "The last meal is ready, Sire."
Mauve couldn’t see the servant’s face to know if she had seen the servant before now. Not that it mattered, it was just something to give herself to think about.
"I see," Jael said coldly without looking at the servant. She looked up to see him looking at her, she immediately looked away again.
The servant bowed again and walked out of the door. The sound of the door closing echoed in the silent room. He placed his hand on her hair and Mauve jerked at the sudden touch.
"Sorry, I was lost in my thoughts," she apologized.
"What are you thinking about?" He asked.
"Nothing," she mumbled and shrugged.
"I see," he said. "Are you ready?"
Mauve nodded and got out of the bed. He held her wrist and she smiled to herself. "Let’s go," he said and she nodded.
Mauve felt all the hair on her neck rise as she walked into the dining room. Something wasn’t right and then she saw it.
Everyone had their eyes glued to Jael but Lady Jevera had her eyes on Mauve. Mauve immediately brought her down. Her eyes were probably playing tricks on her in the dark room.
She followed behind Jael and they walked to the usual position. He sat down. She curtsied before taking her seat.
"Sire," Lord Levaton said. Damon bowed low, Lady Jevera did the same and they all took their seats.
The servant moved quickly, serving their food. Mauve felt her mouth water, she was hungry. No sooner did the food appear in front of her that she dug in.
She looked around. Damon had his gaze on his food and so did Lord Levaton. Only Lady Jevera was staring at her, Mauve brought her head down at this point, she knew she wasn’t just seeing things.
The food was a bit glum and barely any conversation was had. Mauve could not help feeling uneasy and she wondered if anything happened.
She was glad when it came to an end. This time, Jael made sure she was done before he asked if she was ready to leave.
She nodded and stood to her feet alongside him, "Thank you for the meal," she said and curtsied.
Lord Levaton smiled at her but the smile did not reach his eyes and she thought it looked a little robotic.
Jael reached out and grabbed her hand. He pulled her all the way to the room. She didn’t even have the heart to tell him to stop, she was also in a hurry to get to the confine of the room.
She should probably ask him when they would leave, she was not all too happy about spending another night here. She missed her garden, at least she was allowed to go to the roof any time she liked.
The door closed and Mauve pulled her hand from Jael’s grasp. She sat on the bed, she felt exhausted for some reason. It must be the tense atmosphere. It probably got to her more than she had thought.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
She nodded, "It is not easy to keep up with you."
"You could have told me, I would have carried you." He said and touched her cheeks.
Mauve’s eyes widened. Was he teasing her? Does that mean He is back to normal? "No, thank you. I would rather be dragged on the floor than carried."
"Then you are going to hate the ride home," he said and climbed onto the bed.
"Jael, I am sure it is not too late for me to learn how to ride a horse." She whined.
"It is."
"I am sure it is not, I would rather learn a horse than have to travel in that manner," she muttered.
"Are you saying you would rather ride a horse than have me carry you?" He said.
She glared at him, "You know that’s not what I mean, it is embarrassing to bed carried like that."
"Is it now? I would say it is romantic," he said.
Mauve turned suddenly to look at Jael, her ears barely believing his words. "I don’t think so," she said blushing a little.
"Come," he ordered.
She climbed the bed and join in beside him. "When are we leaving?" She asked.
"Tomorrow night, as soon as the first meal is over." He said and rubbed her head.
"Finally," she said.
"That bad?" He asked.
"Yes. Besides, you have been nothing but cold to me."
"Cold? I don’t think so. I believe you have been ignoring me." He said.
"You have it backward Missy, during the second meal you barely said anything to me and before that and before that."
"That’s not true..." She started to say and Jael pulled her head backward and kissed her lips.
She immediately melted again him, kissing him back as hard as she could. He pulled her closer to him, pressing her body against him. Mauve’s hand immediately moved to his hair.
A knock.
Mauve jumped, she had been so engrossed, it had completely caught her off guard. She blushed profusely, feeling as if she had been caught.
Jael cursed, loudly at the interruption, he did not hide his displeasure. She resisted the urge to chuckle. The servant was probably here with their bath water.
Jael kissed her hard and sat upright, he adjusted her hair and said, "Come in." He said.
She further adjusted his adjustments, she didn’t think she looked that bad but she must be since Jael thought to help her with it.
"Sire," the servant bowed as they walked in. "Lord Levaton requests the princess’s presence."
Mauve’s eyes widened and she turned around to look at Jael, hoping for some kind of explanation.
"Go with him," he said and laid back on the bed.
"Without you?" She asked, further horrified.
He nodded.
"Are you sure?" She asked. "I don’t think I should go alone."
"You will be fine, besides, I can go with you either way. There really is no point."
She looked to the servant who still had their head bent and then back to Jael, "I don’t think this is a good idea."
"Go before I change my mind," he said with his eyes closed.
"I would rather you change your mind," she said stubbornly.
Jael opened an eye, "Leave Mauve. Don’t make me repeat myself. The servant will take you to the Lord."
She swallowed and nodded. He didn’t need to sound so stiff. Mauve slipped off the bed and put on her footwear. She held the dress and walked to the door.
The servant held the door open and she walked out but not before looking back at Jael but he wasn’t even looking at her. She groaned, wondering what this was about.
The vampire led the way but he didn’t say a word. She expected this, at least it would give her time to gather herself. The servant led her down the stairs and stopped in front of the room.
"My Lord, the human is here." He announced and pushed open the door.
Mauve walked in with her head bent. "Your Lordship," she said softly.
"Have a seat," he gestured to a seat.
Mauve looked around and tried to keep a straight face when her gaze fell on the decapitated bear and two deers.
"Thank you," she mumbled and quickly sat down.
"Jael tells me you have taken a liking to my garden and would prefer to see it in the daylight."
Mauve blinked and blinked again, she did not believe what Lord Levaton had just said. "He told you that?" She asked before she could stop herself.
Lord Levaton frowned, "Was the information I got wrong?"
"No, not at all. It is absolutely right. I love your garden, I just didn’t think he would tell you." She mumbled and looked at her feet.
"I see, well you have my permission to check it for as long as you like. The compound is safe so you can be rest assured you will too."
