The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 128. Rejecting You

Chapter 128: 128. Rejecting You

"Have you thought about the chance of this?"

"You are not one to rely on fate, My King. You act more in your interests than anything else."

Jael groaned he was done with this conversation. How could Lord Levaton not see how this was contradicting what he was suggesting?

"My daughter wishes for nothing more than to be marked by you."

There isn’t such a thing as unmarking. It is said to be a voluntary decision. Jael didn’t think so, not once has he felt the urge to mark anyone.

"Did she put you up to this, Lord Levaton?" He asked with an unblinking gaze.

"No, but a father knows what his daughter wants."

"I am sure," Jael says darkly. "However, I have no intention to take a mate. Now is not the time. As soon as I have a permanent way to deal with the Palers, I shall pick a mate but not before then. Would you decline to help your King simply because of this fact?"

Lord Levaton went quiet for a minute. "No, however, this is a subject you cannot put off for long. Whispers are already going around, if you don’t act accordingly I fear your subordinates might think you don’t consider them in your decisions. Besides, it will put the vampires’ mind at ease if their King was to follow tradition especially after doing something as preposterous as allying with the humans."

"I understand your worry, old vampire," Jael said stiffly.

Lord Levaton winced, "I know I am old by vampire standards but I still feel very young and Sire, you say it like it is an insult."

Jael shrugs, "Palers are a major concern. After they have been dealt with or at least after a way to control them is found then will I take up a mate."

"We cannot afford to wait that long," Lord Levaton said.

"I am sure you can. After all, Vampires live almost forever."

"As you wish, Sire." Lord Levaton said and bowed his head. "It is safe to assume you have taken steps in that aspect."

"Why?"

"I only wish that you share your plans."

"I decline. It is too premature to divulge."

"Even to me, Sire?"

"You should know more than anyone that I hate to share plans that have a high chance of failing. As soon as I have anything concrete, you will be the first to know as always."

"Thank you, Sire." Lord Levaton said with a satisfied expression. Jael could literally see him glow on his seat.

"However, there is a matter that can be discussed and it is best we move in that direction as soon as possible."

Lord Levaton adjusted in his seat, "What would that be, Sire?"

"I intend to make a squad, specifically to combat the palers. It is a shame that this hasn’t been done beforehand. I expect you will send your elites when I request them, Lord Levaton."

"Of course, I have more than enough guards to send your way, Sire."

"I don’t need mere guards, Lord Levaton. I have enough of that and can easily get more if there be a need for that."

"I don’t understand, Sire." Lord Levaton said with a frown.

"You don’t have to, as long as I have your word that you will send the help I need when the time comes, this conversation is over."

"Of course, however, I might be able to help in this fight, I shall."

"Well then, I think we are done here," Jael said. "Unless you have another matter to discuss with me?"

"No, sire." Lord Levaton said and stood to his feet.

"In that case, I will be gone by sundown."

"Sundown? That’s too early, Sire. Please, join us for the first meal."

Jael closed his eyes, "Then I will but I will set out immediately after."

"Of course, Sire. I shall ready your escorts."

"I don’t see the need, Lord Levaton."

"They won’t follow you all the way to the castle, your grace but least them take you halfway." Lord Levaton insisted

"Do as you like, Levaton," Jael said and stood to his feet. He started toward the door.

"Thank you, Sire."

"That reminds me, there is a different matter I would like to discuss," Jael said turning around to face Lord Levaton.

"What might that be, Sire?"

Lord Levaton frowned as Jael spoke but his expression didn’t betray his thoughts.

"Of course, my Lord. That can be arranged."

"Hmm," Jael said and walked out the door. From the corner of his eyes, he could see Lord Levaton with his head bowed.

Jael made his way up the stairs and down the path. He went past his given room and stopped in front of a closed door. Before he could knock the door flew open and Lady Jevera stood in front of him in a dress that didn’t hide the slightest bit of her curve. His eyes, however, didn’t stray from her face.

"Sire," she called, softly. "To what do I owe the pleasure? Do come in," she said and stood to the side.

"There is no need for that as what I intend to say should only take about a minute."

"Oh, well it must be very important since you came to me. You could have asked the guards to call for me," she said sweetly.

"Oh, it is very important. You do not need to follow us back and from henceforth you need my permission to show up at my castle. Without an invitation, the guards will turn you away at the front door."

Lady Jevera face changed from horror to anger. "Is it because of that human?" She asked darkly.

"She has a name Jevera and you will do well to use it and no, contrary to what you think, you alone brought this on yourself. I did ask you if you knew why your father wanted me here and you said you didn’t."

"I truly didn’t. He didn’t tell me." Jevera said, trying to defend herself.

Jael sighed, "Maybe he didn’t tell you but you knew why he wanted me here. You could have saved me a lot of trouble but yet here I am. Besides, I have no use for you anymore."

Lady Jevera’s eyes darkened, "So it is because of the human."

"Her name, Jevera."

She gasped, "I would rather die than call that human by her name." She cried.

Jael shrugged, "Do as you like as long as you don’t touch a hair on her head, I don’t care for your attitude. I leave for the Valdic Castle tomorrow night, you are to remain in your father’s house, it suits you best."

"Jael, you can’t do this to me," she said and grabbed his arm.

Jael slowly looked down at where she held him.

"You can’t discard me, just like that."

"I understand that the news has left you disillusioned but it is best if you don’t touch me so casually, Lady Jevera. My temper as you well know isn’t the best and from now, you will call me only by my titles."

Lady Jevera dropped her hands to her side, "Yes Sire."

Jael started to walk away.

"You can’t mate a human," Jevera said.

"Lady Jevera must you hold on to the idea that I am picking her over you instead of just rejecting you? Mate? I do not intend to pick one just yet. It will be best if your refrain from using that term around me."

"As you wish, Sire."

Jael walked away and didn’t stop walking until he got to the room. He opened the door to see Mauve sitting on the bed. Her expression brightened as soon as she saw but it immediately fell.

"That took a while," she said but didn’t meet his gaze.

"Yes, there was a lot to talk about."

"I see," she replied as folded her arms.

"Come here," he called to her as she sat on the bed.

She looked reluctant at first but then crawled to him. He held her in his lap and didn’t say anything for a while.

"What did you do while I was away?" He asked after some time has passed.

"Nothing," she said slowly. "There isn’t exactly anything to do here. If I had known it would be like this I would have at least brought a book." She sighed.

"Hmm," he said.

"Yeah," Mauve replied. "Does that mean we can go back now?"

"Why do you not like it here?" He asked.

"I had more freedom back home. It is annoying to be stuck in a room. Makes me feel caged." She explained.

"I see," he said.

"And I miss Mill."

"I see," he said again.

She looked up at his face and glared at him. "Did I do something perhaps?"

"What gave you that idea?"

She looked away, "Nothing."

A knock threw both their attention to the door. "Come in," Jael said.

"The last meal is ready, Sire." A servant said with their head bowed.
