The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 118. His Eyes
Chapter 118: 118. His Eyes
Mauve sat upright as she heard a soft knock on her door. She could tell immediately that Mill was behind the door. "Come in," she said without hesitation.
Mill walked in with an unreadable expression but instead of walking to where she sat on the bed, she remained by the door.
"The last meal is ready, Mauve." She announced while looking straight at Mauve.
"Oh, thank you, Mill."
Mill nodded and slipped out of the door before Mauve could say anything more. Mauve frowned, was something wrong or she was reading too much into it? It was time for the last meal of the day so it was only typical that Mill was busy.
She adjusted on the bed. Usually, Mill would have helped her with her hair at least before leaving. She walked to the dresser and stared at her reflecting, it didn’t look too bad but she would have to brush.
She put the brush in it and winced, there was no way. She dropped the brush immediately and tied up the hair, leaving the frizzy part down. There was nothing she could do about it, she was not about to remove her scalp.
Satisfied with how she looked, she quickly made her way to the dining room. The guards opened the door and she walked in to see Danag, Erick, and Damon sitting at the table.
"Princess," Danag said as she got closer.
"Danag, Damon, Lord Erick." She said as she took a seat.
Damon nodded at her.
"Lord Erick?" Danag asked.
Mauve nodded and Erick gave Danag a smug expression. "I am a Lord, aren’t I?"
"Yes..." Danag said but before he could say more Damon snickered.
Erick’s eyes turned to slits, "What’s so funny, Damon?"
Damon turned in Erick’s direction but instead of saying anything he looked away.
"I am talking to you..."
The door immediately threw open and Lady Jevera walked in. Mauve stared at her and she thought she looked a little happier.
Danag and Damon stood to their feet immediately. "Lady Jevera," they both said in unison. They only returned to sitting after she was seated.
"Jevera," Erick said after she was seated. "You look particularly smug, did something happen?" He asked.
She glared at him, "Don’t you have better things to worry about, and as usual you’re imagining things."
"I was merely curious," he mumbled and scoffed.
She rolled her eyes and looked away. She made eye contact with Mauve and Mauve instinctively nodded but Jevera just glared at her until Mauve looked away.
Her relationship with the vampire was still very strained, she wasn’t trying to make it better but at least hoped it wouldn’t still be this bad. She held her hands together as she waited for Jael.
The door opened and he walked inside, Mauve immediately felt cold. They all stood to their feet while as usual she remained seated. She did feel bad whenever they all stood to their feet and she didn’t but he has never complained about it so she figured she wasn’t doing anything wrong.
"Sire," they said simultaneously.
He sat down with a loud thud and they returned to their seats. As soon as she was seated the guards moved quickly, serving them their meals.
"Why wasn’t I picked to go?" Erick asked.
Jael slowly turned to look at Erick, the stair was enough to send a wild animal running. "Whatever do you mean, Erick?"
"You know," he said looking around. "With Danag." Mauve could literally see his courage shrink.
"What gave you the impression that you aren’t?" Jael asked without blinking.
"I am?" He asked.
Jael looked away and picked up the cutlery. He stabbed the steak and sliced it in one clean stroke before slowly putting it into his mouth. Mauve looked away from him and returned her attention to her food.
Halfway through her food, Mauve felt hands on her body and turned to see Jael’s gaze on her. She could swear he was undressing her with his eyes. "Jael!" She called with a glare.
Everybody on the table jerked and looked in her direction while Jael just smirked. She reddened at the commotion she had just caused, she didn’t even realize when she called his name.
"Is everything alright, Mauve?" Lady Jevera called with a stern expression.
"Y-yes," she stuttered looking away.
"I believe she called my name, Jevera," Jael said stiffly.
"I know," Jevera immediately said. "I was merely concerned about her outburst," she smiled in Jael’s direction.
He immediately turned away from Jevera, "You called my name, Mauve. Is something the matter?" He asked with a smirk.
"N-no, it was a slip. I didn’t mean to say your name like that." Mauve glued her gaze to her food.
"If you say so. Where were you all night?" He asked.
Mauve raised her gaze to look at him. She frowned, he knew all the places she could possibly be. "Why was he asking? "The library mostly and I spent a few hours at the rooftop, watering the plants since I just planted them I just have to make sure they get enough water."
"Hmm," he mumbled and returned to eating.
Mauve glared at his forehead, she could tell he did not hear a single word she said. She could visibly see his gaze move from her face downwards. Her colored cheeks were betraying her.
Mauve was glad when the end of the meal finally came. She dropped her cutlery, stood to her feet, and said her thanks.
She then made her way to the door. She slowly walked past Jael and as soon as she was within his reach, he pulled her closer and whispered directly into her ears.
Mauve felt whatever blood she had in her body rush to her face. She could not believe he had just said that to her in public. As she could do was nod and as soon as he let go of her hand, she fled.
She didn’t stop walking until she got to the door of her room. His words weren’t the only problem, her body’s reaction to it was equally annoying.
