The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 117. Four Nights

Chapter 117: 117. Four Nights

Jael frowned at the loud knock on his bedroom door. He could tell immediately who was behind the door and he knew he was not going to like whatever this was about. He just finally got a break, he could use the rest.

After reviewing a couple things with Danag and giving him orders in preparation to set out to the Xanthus estate, Lord Kieran abode, he just wanted some time alone before it was time for the last meal of the day, apparently that was too much to ask.

He groaned and did not say anything with the hopes that she would go away when she noticed he wasn’t answering. She did not. She knocked again, louder this time. He rubbed his head, if he attended to her quickly, she might leave in the same manner.

"Come in, Jevera." He said without moving from his bed.

"Sire," she said as soon as she stepped inside. She carefully closed the door behind her. She gave a light curtsey.

"This had better be important," he said, raising his head to look at her while still lying on the bed.

Jael was lying on the bed with just his torso. His legs are on the ground while his back is to his bed. He put his hands underneath his head as he waited for her response.

"It is, Sire. Surely, you have not forgotten my father’s request and your promise to fulfill it. You said to bring it up after the party is over and it is now."

Jael cursed without reservation, he did not even bother to hide it from her. "Jevera," Jael called harshly. "The party just ended, you couldn’t give it two nights?"

"If I did, you would never make the trip..." she mumbled.

’Besides, I don’t recall promising to do anything." He rested his head back on the bed and closed his eyes.

"Jael," she called out in horror. "You won’t decline Lord Levaton’s request would you? Not after everything my father has done for you."

"Jevera, you should know better than anyone that emotional black mail to do not work on me. The only reason, I will embark on this trip is merely for my own curiosity and I am not that curious."

"I know," Jevera said with a soft voice. "I apologize for speaking out of turn. However, this is a request from an old vampire, it will please my father to no end if you would pay him a visit."

Jevera dropped low with her head bent. Jael immediately sat upright and stared down at her while she still remained in that awkward position. Jael frowned, she must know something. The Lady Jevera he knew wouldn’t be so willing to plead with him.

"You know something, don’t you?" He said and she stiffened briefly but his eyes did not miss it.

"I don’t," she said almost immediately.

"Jevera, in the decade that I have known you, this is the lowest you have ever bowed to me. For something you know nothing about, don’t you think you are going a little out of your way to make me go see your father?"

"I-I..." She paused awkwardly.

"Nothing to say?" He asked.

"I am my father’s daughter. He gave me a request to bring you to him.If I cannot do such a simple task, how can I look him in the eye?"

Jael clicked his tongue, his mouth tasted nasty as did her words. "Fine, we leave in four nights."

"Four?" She asked in horror and raised her head. "By nightfall we can make the trip and be back before sunset."

Jael frowned and stared daggers at her. "Do you really think Mauve can make such a trip in one night? Or did you forget your father asked to bring her along?"

Jevera shook her head, "I apologized, I did not put that into consideration."

Jael frown deepened, he did not like how docile she was pretending to be. He knew she did not care for Mauve but the fact that she was willing to put up an act that she did bothered him.

"Do you really not know why your father wants to see?" He asked again.

"Nothing concrete, Jael, merely assumptions." She mumbled while staring straight into his eyes.

"Tell me what you think then."

I shook her head, "I would rather not. I don’t want to give you wrong preconceptions, it would be best if you heard it from Lord Levaton."

"Leave me," he said immediately and threw himself back in bed. He heard the door open and close as she walked out.

"Four nights?" He said out loud.

He did not call a random number to embark on the trip rather it was in the same amount of days that he intended to send Danag and a number of guards to Kieran. He had no intention of going anywhere if he did not send them out first.

He rubbed his face and stood to his feet. Everything was rushing at him. There wasn’t a moment to breathe. He threw open his window, there would be a change of weather soon enough.

He had to move fast to get results before they went into hiding because of the cold and at the same time, he needed to make a concrete decision before it was warm again.

A knock drew his attention to the door, "Come in," Jael said while he remained on his feet.

Mill walked in with her head bowed. "Sire, the last meal is ready." She mumbled.

"I see. Mill," he called.

"Yes, Sire."

"Mauve would embark on a trip to Lord Levaton’s estate in about four nights. Prepare what she would need to travel before then."

A slight gasp but she quickly spoke to cover it. "Yes, Sire. Would I accompany her?" She asked.

"I don’t see the need."

"Oh," she said, her voice laced with disappointment. Jael half thought she would argue but she didn’t. "Is Mauve aware of this?" She asked.

"Not yet."

"Can I mention it to her?"

"No." He wanted to tell her himself, make it seem like she had a choice in the matter at least.

"Okay," she mumbled. "Is there anything else?" She asked.

Jael shook his head, "You may leave."

Mill bowed her head again and walked out the door.
