The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 113. Lord Kieran

Chapter 113: 113. Lord Kieran

"Where are we going?" Mauve asked as the door closed behind them. The guards were still bowing, she could see them from the corner of her eyes.

"Patience, Mauve. You should know this by now." Jael said to her, his palm still around her wrist as he tugged her.

She sighed loud enough for him to hear but it neither caused him to let go of her hand nor did he slow down. He led her up the stairs and then another set of stairs.

Mauve could immediately tell where he was leading her, it was the rooftop. She immediately contained her excitement. The seeds of the flowers she planted should have germinated by now, well, at least some of them.

He pulled her through the dark path and up the last stairs. She heard the bolts slide out of place and Mauve heard her breath in the dark.

He pulled open the door and led her out. The first thing Mauve noticed was how bright the moon was. The sky was breathtaking. The stars called to her and she could barely look away.

"We are not here to stargaze," he whispered into her ear. "Look," he said and pointed forward.

Mauve gasped and ran forward. There were pots of fully grown flowers around. She turned to look at him with a glare on her face.

He walked up to her, "You don’t look as excited as I expected."

"You could have gotten me more seeds or plants that haven’t grown so much. This takes out the fun of me growing them myself."

"Ah, I see. You can still plant more, I don’t think there is such a thing as too many flowers. Besides, now it looks more like a garden than an empty space. You should be grateful to me." He blurted out.

"I am," she glared at him. "I am just telling you..."

Mauve froze as Jael turned toward the door, she didn’t think he was aware of the fact that he used his hand to push her slightly to the side as he turned around so she was directly behind him. Someone was coming.

The door made a loud sound as it opened and a figure stepped out. Mauve felt Jael relax and he took a step forward. "What are you doing here?" He said to the figure.

"A guard said I could find you here." The figure said and stepped out of the corner.

The moon shone on him and Mauve immediately recognized him as Lord Kieran, Danag had introduced them. Lord Kieran looked significantly younger than Jael. He had dark blond hair, was tall, and had a lanky frame.

"If it was that important that you had to come to look for me, you could have just told me you needed to see me."

Lord Kieran shrugged, "It’s not that important."

"Mauve, Kieran," Jael said and pulled Mauve from behind.

Mauve kept her head slightly bent and curtsied. She suddenly felt bashful, this was the first time Jael had ever introduced her to anyone. She wondered who Kieran was.

"You know, we have already met, right?" Kieran said.

"At the wedding, I doubt she can remember."

"At the dining," he muttered.

"Anyway, what’s this about?"

Kieran’s expression turned serious. "I received a letter from him."

Mauve suddenly felt cold, she looked up to see Jael’s face hardened.

"You know, I don’t care for the details. If he wanted me to know, he would send me one himself."

"I see," Kieran said and his shoulders fell.

"Is that all?" Jael asked.

"No, I am ready for that," Kieran announced.

Jael’s face brightened and it fell almost immediately. "Are you sure about this? It is dangerous."

Kieran glared at him. "That’s why I asked for time to prepare but I am ready. However, I am worried this might be a waste of time and I won’t find anything new besides, this isn’t the first..."

Jael placed his hand on Kieran’s shoulder, "I trust you and even if this fails, I am sure you will find something useful at the end of the day."

Kieran’s eyes gleamed and he nodded. "My equipment is all setup and I can begin the experiments whenever I get my hands on one."

"I will send Danag and a couple of guards to you in a few days. That should be more than enough to capture one. However, if you need more help or resources, don’t hesitate to let me know."

Kieran nodded, "Of course, Sire. Are you sure you don’t want to know what the letter says?"

"Kieran," Jael’s voice dropped a couple of notches. "Will you stay one more day?" He asked.

He shook his head, "I have to leave now. It’s bad enough that I was gone for two full days and left everything to Walter."

"I am sure he wouldn’t mind if you are away for another day."

"I know but I am sure you must be sick of guests already. Thank you."

He turned to Mauve, "Nice to meet you again and again princess."

"Same here," Mauve said with a smile.

He then turned on his heel and walked toward the door. The door echoed again as he opened it and they both watched him leave.

"Who was that?" Mauve asked as the door closed.

"Kieran," he mumbled absentmindedly.

Mauve glared at him, "I know his name. I mean who is he to you?"

"A friend," he said and ruffled her hair. "I have to go, Lord Garth should be waiting. Stay as long as you like."

Mauve touched the top of her head, annoyed that he was treating her like a little kid but she found herself smiling. She nodded and looked up at him.

He looked a little sadder and Mauve wondered if it had anything to do with what Kieran told him. The letter perhaps but she knew, he wouldn’t tell her if she asked.

She watched him walk away before turning away from the door. She had a lot of watering to do.
