Chapter 111: 111. Midnight Lunch With Lords 2

Lady Jevera opened her mouth to speak when the doors threw open and Jael walked in. Mauve felt her heart skip and she immediately sat straighter but she wasn’t the only one trying to adjust her appearance.

Lady Jevera and Lady Sabrina’s expressions quickly changed to something brighter and they raised their heads to smile at Jael.

Everybody rose to their feet while Mauve remained seated. Helana glowered hard at her but Mauve was unfazed. Considering how anxious, she felt standing up was completely out of the question.

The other vampires didn’t seem to care to look in her direction and she realized that she would rather be ignored. Lady Helana’s attention was not needed.

Jael walked briskly and took his seat. His eyes rested on her immediately and Mauve immediately looked away before her face would expose her.

"Your grace."

"Sire."

They said simultaneously before they took their seat. The servants moved quickly to serve out the meals. Mauve frowned, Damon wasn’t here yet.

She darted her eyes around, maybe she had missed something but neither Erick nor Danag were acting like anything was amiss.

"Sire, you didn’t join us for breakfast." Lady Sabrina said and leaned forward.

"I am sure, his grace was busy." Lady Jevera said immediately and adjusted Jael’s shirt.

Lady Sabrina looked as if she was going to burst. She turned to look at her father and glared at him as he sat closer to Jael. The older vampire didn’t even notice, he just looked happy about the food in front of him.

Lady Jevera left her hand on Jael’s shoulder and Lady Sabrina stabbed her steak. She leaned forward some more, her bosom nearly spilling from her tight dress.

"Danag," Mauve said softly. "Where is Damon?"

Mauve froze as she realized all eyes were on her. She blinked rapidly wondering what she had done wrong. Was it louder than she thought? She then realized these were the first words she had spoken in the dining hall.

Danag opened his mouth to explain but Jael beat him to it. "He is escorting the Lord’s home."

"Oh, okay." She said and nodded happily. She put some food in her mouth to prevent herself from smiling unnecessarily and blushing like a child.

Jael’s gaze didn’t leave her and Mauve felt her cheeks grow hot. It didn’t help that all she could think of was what had happened during the day and when they woke up.

"Sire," Lady Sabrina called and Jael turned in her direction. "It was a wonderful party last night," she says softly.

Even Mauve felt goosebumps pop out of her hands. She was trying to pretend not to see the scene in front of her but it was getting a little hard to ignore.

"I hope you throw another one soon," she mumbled. "Or better still, when Daddy throws a party would you grace us with your presence?" She blinked subtly as she locked eyes with him while leaning forward.

Mauve could only stare in awe. She could not do half of this even if she was paid. Were these the sort of women Jael liked? She turned to look at his face. His blank expression made her a little happy.

He returned his gaze to his food before speaking. "Sure, if a proper invitation is handed out and I happen to be less busy at the time. I don’t see why not."

"Oh, thank you, Sire." Lady Sabrina squealed and jiggled her front. "It will be an honor to have you at our house. I will personally send out an invitation as soon as we are ready for one."

Mauve didn’t miss the glance she threw at father and the smirk that was aimed at Lady Jevera. Lady Sabrina looked impossibly proud of herself as if whatever plan she had just clicked in motion.

Mauve adjusted in her seat as she ate the last of her meal. Finally, she can leave this place. All she was excited about was seeing the garden. She wasn’t sure if she could head there now but at least she could check out the library.

She could move around again, she could feel her skin tingle in anticipation. It had been hard not to feel like a prisoner these past few days.

She wiped her lips and carefully placed the napkin on the table. She was about to stand on her feet when Jael spoke to her.

"Wait, don’t leave yet."

She looked at him and nodded. Mauve’s eyes darted around, it had been easy to forget how out of place she had been while eating but now that she wasn’t distracted it was all she could think about. She could have waited for him outside.

She felt it, the gnawing feeling of someone staring intensely at her. She looked in that direction to see Lady Sabrina’s gaze on her. Her expression was blank but it was enough to make Mauve feel uncomfortable.

Jael stood to his feet but Mauve remained seated. He had not given her the order to leave so she wasn’t sure she could yet. She hoped he was not planning to leave without her.

"Lord Garth," he said. "I will meet you in the drawing room in a couple of minutes. Wait for me there."

"Yes sire," Lord Garth replied.

"Thank you for letting us stay longer and for the warm hospitality."

Jael nodded at her but didn’t say anything else, he slipped out the side of his chair but instead of heading out, he walked further into the dining hall past Jevera, Erick, and Danag. He got to where she sat and pulled her off her seat.

Mauve yelped at the sudden movement. It was annoying how easily he could carry her as if she weighed nothing. She knew she didn’t weigh a lot but she could possibly weigh that little.

"Come with me," he said.

It wasn’t like she had an option, she had his hand firmly around hers. She flailed behind him as he pulled her to the door and they walked out of it but not before she saw Lady Sabrina’s gaze on her darken.
