Chapter 110. Midnight Lunch With Lords

Chapter 110: 110. Midnight Lunch With Lords

Mauve gripped her dress tighter as the guards threw the doors open. She tried not to let the fright show on her face but there were more people than she had expected at the dining hall. Neither Mill nor Jael had thought to warn her about this.

She assumed Lord Garth would be the only unfamiliar vampire at the table but there were two other unfamiliar vampires. The vampires consisted of two males and a female.

The female vampire sat close to one of the male vampires while the other vampire sat about two seats away. The vampires sitting together looked like a couple.

They made her think of Lord Alaric and Lady Marceline. They weren’t at the table and Mauve found that she was actually disappointed about this. She wondered if they had left already.

Mauve took a step forward, another one. The closer she got to the table, the more her footsteps slowed. Mauve did it know where she was expected to sit. Her usual seat was taken.

Her eyes darted around and she was certain her discomfort was apparent for all to see. Her grip on her dress was so tight that if it was any tighter she would draw blood.

"Mauve," Danag called to her as she got close enough. He raised his hand in addition to calling her name and gestured for her to come towards him.

The relief she felt was instantaneous, she hopped to his side which was opposite the guest vampires. Danag was sitting further down the table, past Lady Jevera, and Lord Erick.

She had never gone this far before but she didn’t care, sitting next to a familiar vampire was certainly better than anything else.

She gave a slight courtesy when she got close enough to Danag who then stood on his feet. Seeing him standing, she remained standing.

"Lord Garth, Lady Arora, Lord Kieran..." he paused and turned to face Mauve, "Princess Mauve."

Mauve stood as stiff as a rock as every single person at the table turned to look at her. They were already looking at her from the moment she stepped into the dining room but somehow it felt different now that she was introduced.

"The human, huh." Lady Arora said, "I recognized her."

Mauve blinked, she did not think she had seen the female vampire a day in her life but it was obvious the vampire had seen her. She could only think of one place. The wedding.

She sighed, most of the night had been a blur, and the only reason she recalled Lady Jevera was the stare she had given her at the wedding.

"Yes," Lord Garth added. "I thought she might make an appearance for the Lords that couldn’t attend the wedding but I guess the Sire had other plans."

Mauve eyes widened at this information, she was glad none of that happened. If she was put in front of them, she would most be stared at like fresh meat in the market.

She shivered, the thought made her skin crawl and a quick flash of the vampire that broke into her room resurfaced in her memory.

"She is still as small as I remember, to think she would last this long." Lady Arora commented.

Mauve winced and slowly took her seat, it was so weird the way they were talking about her as if she wasn’t there. She kept her head down as she sat stiffly on the seat.

She hated the fact that everyone was shocked that she had lasted this long. She couldn’t comprehend what they meant by that. It has just been three months, how short exactly were they expecting her to last?

Because she couldn’t think of anything shorter than three months. If something bad enough had happened to her by now, it would be very worrisome.

Were they expecting her to die, or to get eaten by wild animals, or was there something nobody was telling her? She stared daggers at the table as her thoughts ran rampant.

If she had known this was what was in store for her, she would have remained in her room. However, as soon as she discovered she could leave her room there was no way she would have refused to.

She swallowed and slowly raised her head. The vampire opposite her didn’t speak much and even though she could feel his gaze on her, he didn’t say anything.

The door opened and two vampires walked in. One looked to be around Mauve’s age and the other was slightly older but Mauve knew the age difference between them would most likely be over a decade.

Mauve could tell immediately that they were sisters. Maybe it was the way they walked in together or the occasional glance the younger sister gave the older one as if she was studying her intensely.

Mauve thought it was wholesome. She had siblings, two half brothers in fact. Her eldest brother found her amusing, like a toy one, was interested in but didn’t want to play with. The second one hated her guts, she would often flee whatever room he was in.

"Sorry, we are late," the eldest one announced as they sat down. Her voice resounded in Mauve’s head. Mauve immediately understood the two empty chairs between the vampires.

"Lady Sabrina, Lady Helana," Danag gave them a soft nod as he spoke.

"Who is that?" The younger one asked with a nasty shrill voice. She pointed at Mauve and it took Mauve everything not to flinch.

"Princess Mauve," Danag explained.

"Why is she eating with us?" She asked with a frown.

"Helana," Lady Jevera called. "You forget this is the King’s house. Whoever he chooses can sit at the dining table. Sabrina, what have you been teaching her?"

"It is expected that she should ask such questions as she didn’t join us to eat before now." Lady Sabrina said.

"Really? Because to me, it sounded more like she didn’t approve than a question asked out of curiosity."

"You must be hearing things," Lady Sabrina said.

If Mauve hadn’t been following the conversation, she wouldn’t have realized the insult. Lady Sabrina had the softest voice she had ever heard.
