Chapter 364: As If She Never Even Existed
Upon their arrival, the boy tilted his head and quickly got up on his feet as he immediately wiped the tears on his face. "Uncle..." Regan murmured with a gulp.
"What happened?" Raine worriedly asked as she walked closer. She frowned when she saw Regan’s appearance. His clothes were ripped and dirty, damaged as if he had just rolled around on the ground. He also had some bruises on his arms, along with a few scrapes on his elbows.
"It’s nothing, Aunt Raine. Just a petty fight between boys," Regan explained himself, still wiping away some of his tears. "Please don’t tell Father and Mother about this. I don’t want them to worry. It’s really nothing serious that they need to know about."
Raine narrowed her eyes. "Tell me who did this to you."
Regan had a pout as he murmured, "But I already beat them hard enough..."
"Still it’s not good to engage in fights, Regan," Raine worriedly reminded him. "You don’t look like some who indulges in something so petty like boys fights. Tell me the reason why you got into a fight."
Regan shrugged in resignation as he shifted his gaze back to Raine and Nathan.
"Tell us about it, Regan, or I’ll tell your father that we saw you here like this," Nathan threatened with a serious tone.
Regan tilted his head down in defeat. With a sigh, he whispered, "They were bullying me by calling my father a weak king. They say my father is a failure who can’t even win over a hybrid..."
Ah, that hybrid was probably Nathan... Raine turned to Nathan, the latter already having stepped closer to Regan as he bent down on his knees so he could be at eye level with Regan.
"Look at me, Regan..." Nathan said, and the boy raised his head and looked at him. "Your father is the best fighter I had ever fought. And to tell you the truth, I honestly had a hard time winning against him," he admitted.
"He wasn’t a failure Regan... He did his very best in that fight. Besides, it’s not about whether you win or lose, it’s about how fair and square your father fought against me. Your father was a good fighter and an honorable ruler during his time. He didn’t let others corrupt him no matter how hard they tried. In the end, he remained just through his reign as king."
By the sidelines, Raine simply watched as the two had a heart-to-heart talk. She had a beautiful smile, thinking of how Nathan would definitely make a good father if he was already this great with children. Seeing this now, she couldn’t wait to have their second child, Umbriel, a son, who according to Aire, was only a year younger than her.
Back to the discussion, Regan sighed deeply as before suddenly said, "But when I grow up, I’ll make sure that I become stronger than you and my father. I want to rule, so I’ll train hard so that no one can defeat me in any battle. That way, no one will be able to replace me on the throne."
Nathan chuckled as he then patted Regan’s head and he added, "Hmm... Then you should really work hard in not just making your physical body strong, but also by making sure that you have the wisdom and the good heart to become a great ruler."
Regan nodded in gratitude. He then meekly smiled as he politely asked, "Uncle, can you please help me change? I don’t want my parents to see me like this."
"Fine, we’ll help you, but you have to promise not to engage in any unnecessary fights again, alright?" Nathan firmly told him, his eyes narrowed at the boy. "It’s not always about fists, Regan... It’s always best to use your knowledge and wisdom to decide on things. Don’t be so impulsive as well. It can lead to your demise if you aren’t careful."
"I understand, Uncle," Regan obediently replied.
From there, Nathan called for one of his men, who immediately brought a spare T-shirt for Regan. Watching the discussion unfold, Raine had almost forgotten how she needed to go to the restroom. Seeing how Nathan and Regan interacted was just so adorable for her to just miss like that.
Before long, Nathan’s men arrived with a paper bag. Raine grabbed the t-shirt inside and handed it over to the boy.
"Here," she nodded as she gave the shirt to Regan.
Immediately, the boy removed his old torn shirt. Watching him undress, Raine frowned when she noticed a glowing mark on Regan’s neck. It wasn’t visible before since Regan was wearing a turtle-neck shirt.
Moving closer, she unknowingly touched the mark on Regan’s neck. Her eyes widened in horror. The mark looked so familiar. Immediately, her gaze turned to Nathan, who also had widened eyes as they both saw the mark.
"You already have a mark? And it’s glowing?" Raine gasped. Deep inside her head, she already had a hunch on why that was the case, but she refused to acknowledge it just yet.
"Oh, yes. Please don’t tell anyone about this too. My Mother and Father want me to hide the glowing mark, and I’d like to keep it that way as well," Regan stated as he put his new t-shirt on. "It’s weird though... It never glowed before since that day I got marked... But that little girl... It only glowed again just now."
Regan then grabbed something in his pocket and handed it to Raine. "Aunty, can you help me put the skin tone patch on the mark? I always put one on whenever I wear something that will reveal my neck. It hides the mark on my neck perfectly like it was a part of my skin."
Raine’s hands shook as she put on the patch. With a sigh, she murmured, "That little girl you said... Do you remember when she marked you? And what does she look like?"
Regan nodded as he began recalling the events that led to him being mark. All the while, Raine could feel her heart hammering inside her chest as she waited. It was so loud that she inwardly hoped that it wasn’t Aire that marked Regan. If she did... Aire would face great consequences in the future for altering the past.
"Looking at you closely like this, Aunty... that little girl looks exactly like you," Regan started. He then added that when he got marked, and how the little girl just disappeared.
"My father and mother are actually still looking for her, but there’s been no progress as of now," Regan murmured with a pout and a frown. "It was as if she never even existed in the first place..."
Raine’s face paled as she turned and looked at Nathan.
[Aire...] Nathan weakly whispered through their mindlink.
