Chapter 358: How Things Unfolded (1)

As soon as they were finished having breakfast, Mara didn’t waste time and asked Raine that they proceed in looking into their past with Nathan’s help. They brought Lark with them as well, seeing as Nathan had planned to do a simultaneous relaying of their visions by connecting the timeline and seeing the dots for the whole story involving them all.

With everything prepared, they went inside one of the private rooms in the mansion. "Can you also go back in time and change the past?" Mara curiously asked Nathan as the four of them started forming a circle.

"I can, but altering the past has a corresponding price to it. The safest thing to do is to just travel back in time and watch how things unfolded without changing anything," Nathan explained. "The keeper of the Voyager’s Watch can do that anytime he wishes, but he can only go back to the present time during the appearance of the blue moon."

"Right. Raine had told me about her daughter Aire who did just that to stay with you..." Mara recalled. She then frowned in confusion as she asked, "But doesn’t it feel weird that she tried going back to the past just to be with you? I mean, didn’t it occur to you that she must’ve probably done something here?"

To Raine’s surprise, her twin sister wasn’t convinced that her daughter would travel back in time simply to see how her parent’s love story unfolded. Mara insisted that Aire must’ve done something without them knowing.

Raine unconsciously caressed her tummy as she mused, ’Is your Aunt right, Aire? Did you change something here in the past?’

Nathan didn’t comment on the suspicion as he turned to Raine. Both of them had eyes filled with worry as they stared at each other.

By the sidelines, Mara probably noticed their weariness as the latter said, "Oh, maybe I’m just thinking about it too much. I’ve stayed on that isolated island for twenty-three years, then add two more years in an enclosed facility to make sure that I’m ready in all aspects to face the outside world."

She added, "And now, it’s been three years since I started living a normal life with people... I just can’t help myself but overthink most of the time!" She then looked at Nathan and said, "Brother-in-law, shall we start the past viewing now?"

As if shaken from his thoughts, Nathan nodded with a smile, holding both of the twins’ hands in preparation for the ritual. He then told Lark on the other side of him to hold onto his daughters’ hands, allowing them to form a circle.

With one part of the ritual done, Nathan looked at the three before him and let out a long deep sigh as he relaxed his body. He then stared into Mara’s eyes. With a blink, he began entering Mara’s past as he connected Lark and Raine to it using the energy of the Voyager’s Watch flowing within his body. He transported the three into the vision he would see, allowing all of them to share a single experience together.

Being in control, Nathan skipped everything unimportant and started with Mara’s origins, specifically, at the time she was born... There everything unfolded when one of the Moonshine tribeswomen accidentally saw and helped Ava in delivering Mara while the former was looking for Lark.

"Nana..." Mara gasped.

She recognized the woman who took her. The woman’s eyes were sparkling as she stared at a crying baby Mara. Meanwhile, Ava was gasping as she raised her arms to hold Mara, "My baby, please... Give her to me, please..."

However, the tribeswoman ignored Ava as she continued smiling at Baby Mara. She swayed the baby like she was her own, speaking in a different language that none of them could understand...

"She’s a gift from Goddess... Our future Luna... A perfect Luna for my Son..." Mara whispered, translating the language the woman was uttering in her trembling voice.

Raine started sobbing as she looked at her Mother. She could see her mother’s desperation to get to Mara as she crawled her way to grab the woman’s leg. "Please... I beg you... She’s my baby... Give her to me... Pleaseee."

Their mother didn’t stop begging the tribeswoman to give Mara back, but the woman didn’t even give Ava a second look before quickly running with Mara in hand.

"No!!! Please, my baby! No! Give me back my baby!" Ava yelled as she tried in vain to get back on her feet. Weak, their mother crawled and sobbed her way after her baby Mara. She didn’t stop trying. Even after she finally got back on her feet, she screamed, "My baby! Please give me back my baby!!!"

She didn’t stop trying, and both Raine and Mara cried as they watched their mother continue to follow the tribeswoman’s tracks only to cry in pain afterwards. She slumped on the ground, defeated.

Raine inwardly cursed as she gritted her teeth. She was on the verge of breaking down. Gnashing her teeth, the urge to kill that Nana was growing ever so higher the more she watched. That tribeswoman who had snatched Mara away... If not for that bastard, she and Mara wouldn’t have been parted for so many years!

The world shifted, and this time, the vision playing wasn’t coming from Mara, but it was coming from Raine. Nathan turned to her as he worriedly looked at Raine’s crying eyes.

"Raine," Nathan worriedly called to her.

"Continue. I’m alright," Raine reassured her husband. Despite the pain of seeing the tragedy unfold, she still wanted to see everything with her own eyes. Her mother’s suffering was too much, but she had to press on.

There, the vision unfolded as Ava struggled to deliver another baby all on her own. She screamed in pain, and soon, another baby came out from her.

Ava smiled lovingly as she held Raine in her arms. Their mother was smiling, but she was crying at the same time as she weakly whispered, "Mommy will protect you. I won’t let you be taken away too. Don’t worry, my daughter, Daddy will come back soon, and we’ll definitely get your sister back."

From the scene, the whirring of a helicopter was heard, and several footsteps came approaching their way. In Ava’s arms, Baby Raine cried hard as if it was one of her ways to ask for help for her and her mother.

Soon enough, a familiar man appeared before her and her mother.

"Ava..."

It was Marcus, his worried voice echoing against the chopper’s noise as he quickly went beside Ava.

"Father Marcus..." Raine gasped, seeing the father she grew up with one last time.
