Chapter 355: What Are We Then?
As soon as they arrived at the Mansion, Raine personally assisted Mara in setting herself up in the room she personally arranged for her. She watched her sister with a bright smile as the latter looked at her surroundings in awe.
"Wow... Will being a doctor make you this rich?" Mara burst out in wonder as she looked at every corner of her new room, "This is twice as big as the room I have at the Chan Mansion, and I know the Chan Family in country D is also very rich, but this Mansion... Yue Mansion’s way bigger..."
"What’s mine is yours too, Mara. Well, it’s technically a family inheritance, and not all of them are mine," Raine chuckled. "Some of them are my husband’s. Although... I too have my own properties that I’ll be sharing with you soon. I hope you like the designs though. I heard that you love earthly colors like moss green and brown, so I asked our interior designers to renovate this room according to your liking."
"What are you saying, Sis? This is fantastic! I honestly didn’t expect that I’d even have my own complete amenities inside my room," Mara excitedly yelped, jumping up and down on her big bed. "I already feel like I’m in some kind of suite or VIP room in a ten-star hotel!"
"I’m glad you like it," Raine smiled. She walked towards her and said, "Although, you should rest early for today, Mara. We might have a long day ahead of us tomorrow, depending on how long it’ll take for me to narrate everything that happened."
She then added, "By the way, I heard you’re a foodie too, so feel free to look at everything in your minikitchen. If you need more stuff, then you can just go out and directly ask any of our servants or our head chef himself."
Mara nodded. "Will do, Sis."
"That’s all there is to it for now then," Raine chuckled with a wink. "Good night, Mara."
Satisfied, Raine was about to go out of the room when Mara suddenly held onto her wrist and asked, "Will it be alright if I asked you to sleep with me tonight?"
"What? Oh, sure," Raine’s lips stretched wide as she eagerly replied. "Let me just tell my husband about it first, okay?"
"Okay..." Mara nodded timidly. "Also, tell him I’m sorry. It’s just that it’ll take me a while before I get used to sleeping in another room in another place... Two to three days maximum, I think..."
"It’s fine," Raine chuckled. "Even if it’ll take weeks, that’s fine with me, dear..." She then nodded as she placed a hand on her sister’s shoulder. "I’ll be right back, okay?"
With a smile, Raine left Mara’s room before quickly walking to her shared bedroom with Nathan. Entering the room, her husband was already on their bed watching the news on the television.
"Hmm... Mara wants me to sleep with her tonight. Will that be alright with you?" Raine asked, walking up to Nathan to sit beside him. She then went on to explain why. "She said that she would need around two to three days to get used to her new room, and she prefers to have a companion during her adjustment period..."
"Alright... I think that’s fair," Nathan nodded. "But how about you sneak out once she’s already asleep?"
"No, I can’t do that," Raine chuckled. "But don’t worry. I’ll make it up to you after those days pass, okay?"
Giving Nathan a wink and a kiss, Raine couldn’t help but chuckle as she watched her husband pout. It was good to let her husband miss her every once in a while, so it should be okay not to share a bed with him for two to three days.
"Fine," Nathan murmured with a pout.
Raine chuckled, giving him another kiss before quickly leaving the room. Honestly, she was excited to spend some time with her twin like this. They had a lot of things to catch up with, and she would definitely make the best of her time with her sister.
As soon as Raine returned to her twin’s room, Mara who was sitting on the bed, instantly moved to the other side of the bed and made space for her. She then joined her on the bed, Mara pulling up the quilt over them as soon as they were situated.
Turning at her, Mara suddenly asked, "You’re pregnant, right?"
Raine’s raised a brow in surprise. "How did you know?" She found herself wondering how she got that particular bit of information.
Mara had an awkward smile on her face before she suddenly bit her lower lip. She was clearly hesitating, so Raine asked further. "Tell me, Mara. I promised you I won’t keep anything from you. I’ll even tell you everything no matter how absurd it might sound, so I really hope you do the same," she warmly smiled. "We’re twins, after all. And it’s better that we share these important matters with each other."
"I’m not sure if you’ll believe me or not though... I actually sense another heartbeat inside your womb," Mara weakly replied. "I also don’t know how I do it, but it’s not something new to me. Before, when I was still living on that isolated island with the Moonshine Tribe, I grew up having these special abilities like them. It’s something quite different though, since I’m not turning into a monster like them..."
Raine could only nod in understanding. Like her inherent gut feeling, Mara also seemed to have inherited some special abilities from their mother by having angel blood flowing through their veins.
"Y-You might not believe me..." Mara stuttered. "I mean, I tried telling Keira about it, but I ended up not doing so because I always got scared that she and the others will think less of me like I’m some-"
"I believe you, Mara." Raine quickly reassured her, stopping her sister from overthinking.
Mara blinked at what she just heard. Still seeing a bit of hesitation in her, Raine grabbed her twin sister’s hand as she began, "This was honestly the reason why I also took so long in reaching out to you. I can’t decide if I should just let you live peacefully with Keira as a normal human, or if I should tell you things that you might find absurd..." She smiled, "But I guess, it’s always the right thing to do to let you know the truth."
Raine then let out a long deep sigh before she added, "How about I give you some brief overview about our origins? I think you should know it as early as now. Then if you want to see everything unfold before your eyes, we can ask my husband to let us have a peek into the past."
"What are we then?" Mara asked, uttering the first question that came into her mind.
"Hmm... We’re still human, Mara, but we have something special in our blood because our Mother is a fallen angel," Raine explained, looking into Mara’s eyes as she observed her reactions. "Thinking like that, we’re kind of like hybrids, half human and half angel... I’m not sure if you’ve already heard about it or studied about creatures like that before, but if not, then I’ll explain everything to you."
