Chapter 338: Indoor Picnic

Flitting around the control room, Levi was hard at work preparing a surprise for Mia as he began taking out a few key items he needed for his plan to work. Seeing as all of the work they did after everything that had happened kind of ended up being boring grunt work, he figured that he should probably try and spice things up a bit. With them being unable to leave work for too long, he couldn’t just go and drag themselves off into an impromptu vacation.

No... Despite how boring their job was, it was still a necessity for them to do the boring grunt work.

"This should do the trick," Levi smiled to himself as he inspected his handiwork. "It might not be much, but it’s definitely going to be surprising to look at."

It was going rather ingenious if he did say so himself. Fashioning the entire room into a makeshift picnic area, he had moved the couch over to the side in favor of laying out a small area for them to sit around in. While the carpets would make for bad grass, it would have to do as he laid a patch of picnic cloth over it. And on top of that, he had the picnic basket already with him.

"I hope she likes it."

Setting it down, he took a deep breath before he began to lay out the groundwork for what he had in mind. Pulling out a few portions of sandwiches, snacks, along with other food and drink, Levi nodded in satsifaction as he looked at the finished product.

’This will work,’ he inwardly cheered himself on. ’I’ll have her in my arms yet...’

Well, in truth, he already had her in his arms, but he wanted to make it official. After everything they had been through, it only felt right if they finally tied the knot. Sure, he had no idea what to do next after he knelt on his knees, but the preparations for the inevitable wedding will surely come afterward. What mattered was that he managed to tell her his feelings.

’It’s the thought that counts, right?’

Awkwardly chuckling to himself, Levi shook his head as he noticed Draki walking up behind him. The wolf had somehow gotten in, probably smelling the food he had just laid out across the floor.

"Hey Draki," Levi greeted as he knelt down to rub the wolf’s head. "How’ve you been?"

Draki mewled under his hand, rubbing its head against his knuckles as he smiled.

"You probably noticed all the food, huh," he chuckled. He then knelt down and grabbed a sandwich. "You want some?"

Opening its mouth, Draki eagerly wolfed down the sandwich, happily wagging its tail as the wolf promptly walked towards its usual spot near the door.

"There’s more where that came from," he smiled. "Feel free to come near if you want more food."

As if taking note of his offer, Draki lifted its head for a bit before laying down and taking a nap. Well, at least the wolf was there for moral support. And just in time too, as the door finally opened to reveal his tentative wife.

"Levi, I’m back. There’s a- Woah..."

He couldn’t help but smirk as he drank into Mia’s confused expression. It wasn’t the bad kind of confusion. No, it was one of utter surprise, the blush on her face giving him confidence as he moved to coax her in.

"Surprised?" he chuckled. "I figured we should spice things up every once in a while. We don’t always get to go outside, so we might as well have an indoor picnic."

"Seriously?" Mia scoffed as she crossed her arms under her chest, having seemingly regained her posture as she chuckled. "Why a picnic? Isn’t there something better to do indoors like, I don’t know, see a movie or something?"

"And be as generic as some of the other guys? Please," Levi smugly rolled his eyes. "Who else can say that they’ve seriously set up an indoor picnic? Besides, even you would find us watching a movie in here dreadfully common."

"Well, you got me there," Mia shrugged with a giggle. "It is kind of boring if we just watched something on a screen when that’s all we usually do as our jobs anyway."

"Right?" Levi laughed. "Anyway, why don’t you sit down and take a load off? I have a lot of food prepared for us today."

"Don’t mind if I do then."

Smiling, Mia sat down on the picnic cloth, her grin only growing wider the longer she situated herself on the ground. Sitting beside her, Levi moved quickly to give her a few snacks that he had prepared for her.

"Want a sandwich?" he offered.

"Really?" she let out a small laugh even as she took the offered food. "Can you get more cliche than having a sandwich at a picnic?"

"Well, if you want, I can fire up the sunset screensaver on one of the monitors," Levi cheekily replied. "Or perhaps I can play some ambient seaside music for us to enjoy?"

Mia giggled, "Oh shut it, you... You’re making me blush here."

Levi smiled as he couldn’t help but smile as he found himself staring at Mia’s bright face. Watching her enjoy what he prepared for her made his heart soar with joy, and slowly but surely, the atmosphere around them was making itself well suited for his plans.

"This is delicious," Mia complimented him in between bites. "Then again, what else is new with you and your cooking?"

Seeing the opportunity, Levi took a deep breath as he dug into his pockets. Taking out a small box, he prepared himself with a small nod. "Right..."

"Levi?"

Blinking at her, Levi stood up, towering over Mia’s sitting form as he smiled at her. "Mia..."

"Yes?" she tilted her head in curiosity. "What is it?"

Taking another deep breath, Levi kneeled down, making Mia’s eyes widen as the blush on her face deepened in realization.

"Wait... Are you really..."

"Yes, Mia. I’ve thought long and hard about this," Levi seriously nodded. He then presented the box to her, peeling it open as he asked, "Mia, will you marry me?"
