Chapter 335: Most Precious Idiots
At Country A
Once she was cleared, Cali was finally discharged from the hospital and returned home with Rui together with Raine. Meanwhile, Yera had already prepared a feast for their wonderful dinner. Setting up outside on the veranda, the fire burning in the makeshift bonfire kept them warm against the cold weather. It would also be Raine’s last night to spend time with them since she, Nathan, and her father would all fly back to Country V tomorrow.
"Oh, I can smell the grill already!" Raine beamed as she immediately walked over to the veranda. Behind her, Rui and Cali followed. Her appetite had been so ravenous lately that she would just love to eat more often now instead of sleeping. Her dear Aire inside her tummy was making her do a lot of things not in her usual routine, but it was thankfully all still manageable despite her constant consumption.
"I bet you’re all hungry after everything that had happened, so let’s all just dig in already," Xander declared with a teasing grin. "This feast is for us to celebrate this occasion. Cali is safe and sound, and firmly back in Rui’s arms."
Cali blushed at the declaration, while Rui grabbed a beer and beamed, "Cheers!"
The group then shared a hearty meal, all while bantering with one another as friends.
"Oh! What a nice ambiance we have here. Having dinner outside, under the beautiful night sky..." Raine wondered aloud as she caressed her tummy. She was so full. Well, not only her, but her beautiful daughter Aire was probably also stuff by now.
"Yera’s a great cook..." She chuckled as she added, "I honestly envy women who cook so well. I’m bad at cooking, so I don’t cook at all."
It was only a good thing Nathan was a good cook. That way, she didn’t have to worry about making good meals for her to eat. Not to mention her father, who seemed to like staying in the kitchen more often than not.
"You don’t cook?" Cali asked in disbelief "Aren’t you a culinary professor?"
"I will be leaving soon anyway," Raine laughed, deftly redirecting the conversation away from the topic. "I hate teaching as well, so it’s time for me to drop this profession and look for a better one."
Of course, she was actually good at teaching as her disguise. It was nothing but a few simple lectures that didn’t actually require applying her supposed cooking skills inside the class.
"She’s a secret agent, so don’t bother asking any more questions," Xander mumbled in jest. "For all we know she could be bugged, and we’ll all be put in danger for getting too close to her..."
Raine only lifted her eyebrows at him. He had a point though. No wonder Xander didn’t want to get involved with the actual operations of the Moon Clan and Mirage. He was only helping out whenever it pertained to the business side of things involving the Yue group.
"Yeah, you’re right. It’s more dangerous to get on my bad side though..." Raine countered with a squint in her eyes, making Rui and Yera laugh.
It was so nice to spend some time like this with old friends. She wondered what her father and husband were actually doing back home though. Nathan had mentioned to her that the two of them would also have their own party to celebrate as in-laws while she was busy having a good time at Rui’s house.
She couldn’t imagine how boring that party could be between those two men. But she was rather curious to find out, so Raine thought to check on them later once she was done with the arguably better party between the two.
***********
"What’re you two doing?"
Raine couldn’t help but groan in both amusement and exasperation as she came how to a rather unkempt house. It was far from the norm, especially with both Nathan and her father being diligent in cleaning up after themselves. Unfortunately, the two of them seemed far too occupied with their own drinks to even think about their surroundings.
"Ahh... Raine?" Nathan slurred out, clearly drunk out of his mind as his body slacked down on the couch. "You’re back already?"
"Yes, and I can’t help but think that I never should’ve even left."
It was like a typhoon had just devastated the living room. On the couch, Nathan’s shirt had been torn in places, his pants half worn as he nursed a glass of clear liquid, possibly vodka, in his hand. Likewise, her father was no exception. He was visibly sloshed, his own clothes practically shredded as he held onto a bottle of his own drink.
And that wasn’t even the worst part.
"Are those cuts and bruises?!" she couldn’t help but cry out in disbelief. "Had you two been fighting?!"
"I had... decided to test his worth as a man..." her father explained, his words slurring despite his deadpan tone. "T’was nothing more than a.... a spar..."
"Y-Yeah..." Nathan giggled. "Went at it reeeaall fierce... I proved myself though, so that’s allll gooooddd..."
Raine sighed as she placed a hand on her face. Truly, why did she even think that leaving the two men in her life alone with alcohol was a great idea?
"Let’s get you two idiots to bed," she sighed as she began pulling both men to their respective beds. "We have a flight tomorrow, and I don’t want us to miss it because you two can’t keep your alcohol."
"Eeeeehh.... It’s our own jet anyway...."
Despite the smell of vodka permeating the air, Raine couldn’t help but smile at the two men who passed out drunk in front of her. It was clear that they both cherished each other’s company despite the impromptu ’spar’ that they supposedly did. Still, they were fools if they thought she would let this slide by being cheeky and cute.
"Morons," she sighed with a chuckle...
She shook her head in mirth. They were idiots, but they were the two most precious idiots in her entire life.
