Chapter 325: Just Let the People Know

The next morning, Raine was already awake by the time Cali woke up. It was a first for her to sleep with a woman, and it honestly felt rather exciting. Already, she couldn’t help but feel a tinge of excitement about doing things together with her twin sister in the future.

"Good morning," Raine greeted with a bright smile. "I hope you slept well..."

Cali turned, seeing her sitting on the couch as if she was there to guard her throughout the night. Well, that was indeed the right thought. She was guarding her since they’ll never know when Balon would launch his attack. Her men were also ready to barge into the house at any time depending on her signal.

"How long have you been watching me?" Cali mumbled as she rose up from the bed.

Raine chuckled, standing up as well. "I see that you have sharp instincts," she commented while walking up to Cali’s balcony. "I think you should swap with my room, Cali. That one doesn’t have a balcony. This place isn’t safe..."

Cali yawned and stretched her arms. "Ahh, but I like this room," she lightly replied. "I can see the sunrise better from here." Her face then suddenly fell upon seeing the worried look on her face. "Why? What’s wrong?"

Raine sighed loudly. This had been the plan all along, to tell Cali the truth because she needed her cooperation to catch the mutant.

With a serious tone, she looked at her as she began her spiel. "Yeah... It’s not over yet, Cali. I lied to Rui to appease him because I know he’ll do anything, even possibly take drastic measures just to protect you," she explained herself.

"I can’t afford any loose ends in this case, Cali, so I’ll need your help in finishing things up. Or else, Rui will end up jeopardizing everything, even your safety, without him knowing or realizing it in trying to help."

Cali gulped. After a bit of time thinking about it, she whispered her response. "Rui didn’t actually explain anything to me. He just told me to trust him about you whenever I asked what you’re doing and why you’re involved with that black rose thing."

She sighed, "Honestly, I wouldn’t really be alarmed if someone just left that on my desk or anything, but the way it got there... Someone had managed to unlock my locker, put it there, and even lock it back into place."

"You don’t have to know anything, Cali. The matters pertaining to this case are highly confidential," Rained explained further.

"It is true, however, that your life is in danger and that I’m the best person who can protect you in the meantime. That’s why I said that I have to stick by you like a leach for the majority of the time that I’m here. Maybe even all the time, twenty-four-seven as much as possible."

"Wouldn’t it be better to just involve the police in this case?" Cali suggested.

Right.... If only Cali’s case didn’t involve a wanted mutant who preyed on young women as its sex slave before killing them once he was done and had had enough of them, then she would’ve gladly let the police handle the situation. Really, if only they had some memory powder with them, things would be a lot easier without thinking about the complication of bringing down a mutant by any means possible.

With a small sigh, Raine turned to Cali, looking her directly in the eyes as she firmly stated, "The police can’t do anything about This. As I’ve said already, it’s a highly confidential matter, but rest assured that your safety will be secure so long as you do as I say and follow my instructions carefully."

Cali closed her eyes, taking in a bit of fresh air before letting out a breath. She looked at Raine in resignation and asked, "Do I have any other choice?"

"No, you don’t..." Raine winked at her. "Now go do your physical therapy. After that, we can have some breakfast, Sis..." A terse pause then followed before she suddenly shook her body. With a frown, she complained, "Ugh... I’m not used to calling anyone ’Sis.’ I’ll probably just stick to calling you Cali."

Right..., Cali had asked her last night to address her as ’Sis,’ and Raine thought it would be a nice practice for when she would soon meet her twin sister. Unfortunately, here she was feeling awkward just from using such a simple word.

Seeing Raine’s efforts, Cali laughed and said, "I assume you’re some sort of an agent then? Like in movies? A secret agent from the government?"

Raine laughed out loud. Letting out a cynical smile, she corrected, "No, baby... I’m a hunter."

And she hunted dangerous monsters specifically. Oh, how she wanted to add those specifics, but again, she still had to be careful with her words due to their shortage of memory-loss powder!

At her half-tease, Cali looked more confused than before. Seeing this, Raine added, "Yeah... Well, you can say that I’m sort of like those secret agent types. That’s more of a befitting term, I guess."

It was then that their talk was soon interrupted as Cali’s phone rang loudly. At the intrusion, Raine teased, "Go. I’m sure your BF misses you so much already."

"A-alright," Cali whispered with a blush. "I’ll go and do my routine with Rui first then."

Raine nodded as she watched Cali left. She then looked out of the balcony, and from her direction, she could see Xander with Yera doing some running just outside the house. She would never understand why Xander would choose to live a normal life rather than wield the power he rightfully owned from having the Yue blood of the Moon Clan in him but seeing him look so happy while bantering with his wife, Raine could understand his sentiments.

"I guess everything is worth it to have that..." Raine whispered to herself. But before she could sulk any further, she shook her head and told herself, "Ahh... Enough bumming myself out. It’s time to get to work and hunt!"

Making her way back to her room, Raine began setting up her equipment. Edward was still on the loose, and Cali was marked as his next prey. Knowing that the bastard would surely attack her when they would least expect him to.

Still, the only good thing with these kinds of mutants was that they launched their attacks in secret, utilizing methods that wouldn’t attract too many people in order to hide their identities. After all, if their race was exposed, then surely the humans wouldn’t stay idle and just go and wipe them out of this world.

"That would’ve made our task easier," Raine sighed. "Maybe it’s time that we stopped using memory-loss powder for good and just let the people know of the existence of these underworld creatures?" Scoffing to herself, she then caressed her tummy as she talked to Aire. "How many days do you think we should ignore your Daddy, Aire? Do you think he’s getting along well with your grandpa right now?"

Raine then chuckled as she pictured her emotionless father talking to a serious Nathan. Surely, that would’ve been a sight to behold.
